I love that her haircuts are long lasting and are easy for me to take care of myself between visits. My hair looks fantastic the day that she cuts and blows it dry, and it still looks fantastic many weeks later. I have gotten compliments on it from strangers. After taking my daughter here for her first haircut, I decided to come in for a haircut for myself. I arrived on time for my 10am haircut, and she finished in 25 minutes. Apple barely paid any attention to the way I wanted my hair cut, and after taking a couple snips she patted me on the back and said, "Ok, thanks for coming in." I liked in the mirror at my hair and I literally looked as if I had just gotten out of the shower. My hair was sopping wet! I had to ASK her to blow dry my hair so I didn't walk out looking like a drenched rat. "I have another client at 1045am," Apple said impatiently, "No time!" Uhh, then maybe you shouldn't have scheduled appointments so close together. To add insult to injury, she didn't inform me of the price of the service until I handed over my credit card, to which she off-handedly made the remark, "It's $50 today" and swiped my card immediately. My mind was reeling - $50 for a two snips to my hair and a subpar blow dry that didn't even last half an hour?!! I will never be back again and wouldn't even recommend this place to my worst enemy. Save your time and go somewhere with better service. read more

I made an appointment at this salon on the advice of a friend who has a great haircut. She'd been going to see Apple since Apple worked at Centre Cuts in Roslindale. Now Apple has her own salon and it's great. I explained pretty quickly what I wanted (highlights and cut) and I knew that taking a risk on color with a new stylist was big, but I needed color. She gave me a beautiful honey color with highlights and lowlights (to hide my increasing grey) and the cut is very flattering for my face. Her hair wash was wonderful as well. The price is great. I paid $35 for a cut and $78 for a color, plus I gave a healthy tip (even to the owner). I was in and out in less than 2 hours and was able to get an appointment the day after I called. Took my boys (13 & 7) to get haircuts because I needed to get it done on a Sunday, and our barber was closed. Really easy to get in with a last minute appointment. The hair cuts were great! I'd like to add to my first review with some helpful info: Call for an appointment first. Apple Salon has one person cutting hair. She's very quick and will do her best to fit you in. We've never waited more than a couple of minutes on appointments we've scheduled on very short notice. My daughter (as well as a few adults) got great looking cuts that rivaled high end Newbury Street salons. The shop is small but comfortable. Don't expect video screens and gimmicks. There's a shelf with toys and puzzles for kids. It's a salon, not an amusement park. On that note, Apple is very good and gentle with kids. Mine seem to enjoy getting their hair cut there. The prices are very reasonable. Especially when compared to the kid's chain salon which is more expensive with horrible results and the whole "exit through the gift shop" routine. Street parking out front can be dicey due to fast moving traffic. There is a small parking area behind the building. read more

It is a great place for a kid's haircut and for adults too. I brought my 6 year old daughter and she loved it. She has long curly hair and was very intimidated by going to get them cut. Apple made her feel welcome right away and this put my daughter at ease and comfortable with the surrounding. Just a great place to bring the kids for an affordable haircut. There's only one little shelf with a few toys and we're not talking about videos and hairdressers blowing bubbles, but Apple simply cuts kids' hair really well. My two little ones (2 and 5) have been there twice, and despite all of their fears about having their hair cut, and all of the squirming and struggling, they both have looked great after the Apple treatment. Very affordable and super-nice. We're willing to drive the 20 minutes from Jamaica Plain, even though there are a million places closer to us. I hope that tells you all you need to know. read more

This is hands down the best place to get a haircut I've found yet in Boston, for myself & my family. Apple does an outstanding job of cutting hair, and the atmosphere is warm & friendly. There is parking on the street and in back. Very small - you should call ahead, but she's never failed to fit us in, and I've had no problem walking in on a weekday. Open Sunday! read more

Certainly lives up to its stars. I took my 5 year old there for a haircut yesterday and now can't imagine going anywhere else. We had called for an appointment, as other reviewers suggested, and the two women there (Apple and her mother?) were so sweet to my daughter. Not only did they wash her hair and give her a great haircut, they also did the most beautiful hairband braid on her (which still looked good today) and let her choose a lollipop while they were blowdrying. Considering everything they did, $18 seems like a total bargain. It's not a kiddie salon - it definitely smells a bit like keratin - but they were so good with my daughter that we'll be back. Booked an appointment based on reviews. She might be great with children but not great for adults. She rushed my cut so much I think its uneven left vs right side. I have very long thick hair and usually hair places enjoy cutting and its easy to hide mistakes. Also it was super pricey for what she did. She did not even blow dry. Apple Salon is named after the owner and master stylist, Apple! She is wonderful! She is kind, quick, affordable and does a fantastic job cutting my hair EVERY time! I won't go anywhere else! I have curly hair, not always easy to do right, and I completely trust her. She also does a great job with kids!
