As a stubborn senior, I'm still rebelling about the idea that seniors should not have long hair. I've let mine grow below my shoulders. I was a redhead in my youth and we turn grey later than others. I had my second appointment with Lindita. She is great to work with. We discussed my options and decided to do a half foil and I happily agreed to have her cut 3 inches off. I got full foil highlights, and my hair came out looking so beautiful at the end for my graduation! Stopped in today for a quick men's haircut and was not disappointed. Miranda, who I was paired with, was very professional, talented, friendly and patient. I asked her to re cut my hair three different times because I wasn't able to explain exactly how I wanted my hair cut. She was patient and worked with me until I had my hair the way I wanted it. Great little salon in the heart of Roslindale. It's an Aveda salon with lots of the products for sale and it's what they use for styling as well. Do have some spa services as well as the basic cut, color and style services. Everyone is super nice and have never had a bad experience. I've been going to Centre Cuts Salon & Spa for maybe 14 years. It's the best! It's always clean, inviting, and friendly. Miranda cuts my hair and I'm never disappointed. She's great at collaborating and listening to what you want. All the staff is so friendly. I love their selection of jewelry, clothing, and unique items for gifts. I really dont like giving bad reviews honestly....but :/ Stopped in on a busy saturday this past saturday, they were booked up, expected. this is my "go to" place when i go to do my hair, ive only lived here two years and this is the one place ive been more than three times, needless to say i dont go as often as id like. The thing is hair cuts and colors are a LUXURY @ hairstylists like please dont lecture the poor person sitting in your chair about their hair? At 55$ plus tip for just a cut, if you think I can afford that all the time, then your lifestyle is clearly better than mine. Im not going to name the person but when i asked for the next appointment and possibly a color too the person at the counter said well let me check with ____ she has to look at your color first. I had the ombre color done to my hair about seven months ago(not here) and its now a grown out dead ends mess....so _______ takes me over to the chair and proceeds to grab at my hair and lecture me about how it looks and how "shes not going to do a color on my hair because i doesn't look like i want to commit to the maintenance" I dont recall asking your opinion about what i am going to commit to? Her people skills or whatever it was she was trying to do were just unpleasant. You provide a service and I pay for that service? if I wanted to be lectured about my hair I can call my mom. the next day i did go back for a cut....different person, v nice, still always they push the product and i hate that i dont want product and if i do ill buy some. hair care and cuts and color is all a luxury, and something i do when i have the extra time and money, you shouldn't be deciding anything for a client or lecturing them about what they might or might not do I can easily take my money somewhere else. read more

Tried this place for the first time. The stylist was very nice, but she did the exact opposite of what I asked her to do. She cut the top of my hair super short (and it's wavy so now I just have really weird bang-type curls right over my eyes) and wouldn't cut the length of it, which is what I went in for. It's hard to tell the direction of something while someone is working and I trusted she was a pro, but nope. I had to asked her again to cut the length by my chin like I wanted it, but it was too late for the rest of my head. I didn't even ask her to fix the back which was too long and now very awkward with the top being so short. I had to cut the mullet off myself when I got home. I'll be hiding under a hat for 3 to 4 weeks which is sad after paying for it. Luckily it was not too expensive. Would not recommend this place, which is too bad because it's cute and a convenient location. read more

I started going to Centre Cuts a few months ago for Brazilian waxes. However, this Saturday I had a 3:45 hair appointment with Janiris. Can I just say it is one of the best hair cuts & finishes I've ever had. My hair is not particularly difficult to cut & style but most blow outs end up in a matted mess the next day. It's been 2 days I still have body & very VERY minimal tangles. (From throwing it up in a bun at night). Janiris was extremely professional & polite. She's very talented. Her shampoo was fantastic! If you are tender headed then this is not the shampoo for you unless you let her know. Otherwise, she gets into that scalp & your head comes out clean as a whistle. I'm very impressed with not only her but also Trish & Erika's wax. Both are very polite, professional, talkative. It's been a long time since I could get all my services done in one spot. I have yet to experience any facials or nail services but eventually that will happen. Scheduling is great. The girls at the front desk always accommodate me & are very pleasant. I've been looking for a new place for brazilian waxes recently and found Centre Cuts, halfway between my house and work so I gave it a try. The woman at the reception desk was extremely helpful and gave me some suggestions on places to grab takeout after my appointment. Thanks to their website, I now remember my waxer's name -- Patricia...I think she goes by Tricia but who knows. She did a great job. I've been getting waxes for over a decade and know the drill. She asked me if I wanted strip or hard wax or both which I REALLY appreciated. I cannot tell you how annoying it is when people think hard wax is far superior to strip wax. Hard wax is better for sensitive areas, but grabs nowhere near as much hair as strip wax does. Bottom line...if you use only hard wax for your Brazilian, you won't get the smoothness you would with a combination. Patricia was also very funny and easy-going. We chatted about my recent move to JP and I shared some funny waxing stories with her. I would definitely go back. They also charge the standard $50 for a Brazilian. Not the best deal ever, but by no means the worst. I've seen places in JP that charge $65 for a Brazilian. As someone who takes 10 mins tops to do a Brazilian, that's outrageous. read more

I hugely dislike getting my hair cut in the DC area because the prices are so exorbitant for my relatively simple needs. While one wouldn't think the Boston area would less expensive, I was grateful to find the nearby Centre Cuts (with good Yelp reviews, and a positive review from my niece) while I was in Roslindale visiting family. The stylist who cut my hair was relatively new, and due to still building her client base, even had a 10%. So, for wash, cut and style AND a generous tip I paid a total of $64. They offer a number of other services at reasonable prices, and the treatment rooms looked to be quiet and relaxing. If I lived in the area, I imagine I'd be a regular here. read more

I don't understand how this place has such good reviews! Worst hair salon I have ever been to!! Went for a trim. And was very clear about what I wanted. A TRIM, no more than an inch off. The girl, Sofia (?), ended up cutting off almost 5 inches of my hair! Her response when I asked her why she would do that even though I was very clear about what I wanted, was, "I don't know. I thought that's what you wanted". I told her it wasn't. She shrugged and continued cutting 'layers' which looked absolutely hideous. She just took chunks off of the front and did nothing to the back. It looks awful! I actually had to fix it later. (My husband actually commented on it when I came home and asked if a kid cut my hair!) She could tell I didn't like it and tried to make small talk and said she could fix it. I was so upset, I just got up and left. While I was leaving, I overheard another 'stylist' telling her client that she always encourages people to come back when they're not satisfied to get it fixed. Clearly, this wasn't the first time and they could tell how dissatisfied I was and how awful the cut was. But, no way in hell would I ever let anyone at this place touch my hair again!!! Of course, I was charged a 'long hair fee'. It's that kind of place. They don't care about what you want. They just want to overcharge you! Don't waste your money here. Go to Newbury St! read more

I haven't had bangs since the 6th grade-- which was quite a few years ago now, folks!-- and so naturally, I was pretty nervous walking into a salon I'd never been to before to get my hair cut by a woman I'd never met before. But Miranda was awesome. I brought a picture of the look I was going for and described the rest as best I could, with lots of caveats -- like please make it so I don't have to spend any time on my hair. I don't do blow-dryers. The result was so cool I had to post a pic of my new younger-looking self on FB. I haven't had so many compliments in years! I like the vibe of the salon. Its clean and cozy, and everyone is really friendly. I was disappointed with my experience, however. I got a pedicure, and everything went fine until she painted my nails. They were GOD AWFUL. I've never had someone do such a bad job, and I've never done such a bad job myself. If one more person asks me where I get my hair done, I'm going to get a big head! :-) Seriously - Miranda's hair wash (so wonderful I fall asleep), her expert cut and blow dry and the overall friendly service and atmosphere directed by Terry and Edna, as well as Aveda product knowledge and advice are second to none. I've been to quite a number of the fancy spots on Newbury, and they ain't got nuthin' on Centre Cuts. I rarely use the spa services, but have had some lovely pedicures and restorative massages from time to time over the past several years. It had been way too long, however, and this past week I decided to change that. I had had a fall (darn winter ice and dog walking - not a good combination!) a few weeks back and my neck and back have been feeling progressively worse. I was dreading looking for a chiropractor, all the shenanagins of an xray, the regular visits that go on for years, etc. etc. Since I was in the neighborhood, I popped in on impulse to see if there was a massage time available. Fabulously, there was! In one half hour of bliss, Erika deftly manipulated me back to health! I am headache free for two days now, can turn my head as normal and swear my eyes are more fully open. The spa area is relaxing and lovely at Centre Cuts. The rooms, robes and scents are nothing short of luxurious. The staff is clearly expert and sophisticated. I don't plan to fall again (winter is OVER, darnit), but let's hope I remember to not allow such a significant gap to fall between my spa services at Centre Cuts again! read more

It's nice to have honest feedback that learning to deal with curly hair is an ongoing process, not an overnight style.
