I've only been here maybe twice or 3 times at most and this place was better than your average black salon. I try to avoid black hair salons because they waste your whole day like you're not a paying customer but a friend recommended this place after trying them. I had my hair done by Donna, a wash and press to be specific. Pros: This place is clean and they actually RESPECT your time. I was out of here 2 hours tops and that might be an overestimation. Cons: Between my visits here, the job done on my hair was not consistent and my hair felt too greasy my last visit and I'm very particular on a lightweight look. The prices are a little heavy, I paid 90 bucks in total for a wash, press, and deep conditioner meanwhile I pay half that price for a better job at the Dellaria salon. But I guess you pay the ultimate price when you're in a black hair salon that actually values your time. *sigh* read more

I went to Epiphany to get my short hair cut trimmed- it had been previously damaged by another salon. I went to the owner, who said she "loves short hair" and convinced me that I had to go even shorter than I planned to get rid of the damage. OK. Well let me say the salon is beautiful and the service is great. HOWEVER, if you want a GREAT short hair cut- this is not the place. They specialize in the set, blow-out, genre only. I should have known it was going to be a disaster when ALL the other stylists STARED at me the entire time- because they knew it was going to be a mess. I had helmet hair. It was HORRENDOUS. When you get your hair done, you expect your hubbie to say how great you look. My husband said to me "Did you ask to get your hair cut like that?" You should have seen his face when I said she charged me $90.00- I didn't get a relaxer, or deep conditioner. If you have long hair or a bob, then this the place to go. Otherwise run. read more

I was happy with my stylist in the South End but a friend suggested I try this place out when I couldn't book an appointment with my regular person. It's out of the way for me, but a bus from Forest Hills drops me off super close to the salon. The Salon manager is very friendly and professional on the phone, I felt comfortable right away. When I arrived for my cut I was greeted by her and a friendly staff - I was really impressed with the service. I have very thin curly hair, which causes a lot of stylist to make 101 annoying suggestions...as if I didn't realize I had super thin hair or considered vitamins... I mean, its only my hair and I live in a cave with no mirrors...Anyways... I should also note that Epiphany is very clean, even the product shelves are dust free! I think this place is a major barging, only $35 for my cut. I just hope my South End stylist can forgive me... read more

What a great experience I had today at Epiphany! It began last week when I stoppped in to see if they did twists. I was greated by the manager who was a very friendly, helpful woman. I met the owner Donna who was also very friendly. When I arrived this morning for my appointment I was greated and offerred. a cup of tea before the hair washing and conditioning begain. Nicole washed and conditioned my hair and Latron who was my stylist. LaTron was fabulous! Especially given my hair was very unruly. She handled it with a smile and patience which left me with a great appreciation for her work. I was so appreciative of the care LaTron took with my hair. I will be back! The salon was very clean very all the staff were enagaing and work togehter to get clients in and out . I look forward to seeing them all again! I am glad I found you! read more

I love this salon and I LOVE Bonnie. I've been with her for a few years and no one has helped my hair grow like her. I had a hair trauma and she was very aware of how I should care for my hair. The salon is clean and they have free parking. That alone makes it worth it. I find the prices to be reasonable. If you have textured, curly or kinky hair, this is the place to go for hair care. I recently had an appointment with Donna, the owner, who gave me a great cut and style. Donna and her staff are extremely professional with no lallygagging, no eating while styling hair, no gossiping. I LOVE THIS PLACE and the professionalism exhibited. I had not had my hair cut professionally in over a year and decided to try this place based on a friend's recommendation. My friend often complains of her hair being thick and hard to manage, yet she looks great whenever I see her. I'm glad I inquired about who her hairstylist is. I am truly one happy customer! It has been one week post new hairstyle, and I'm still rocking the fullness, the bounce, and the swing. A bit pricey, but I got what I wanted and left there quite happy and looking great. read more

Visited Epiphany for the first time about 18 months ago for a wash, blow dry, trim and flat iron for both myself and my pre-teen daughter. Though they claim to specialize in all textures, they didn't seem as knowledgeable about natural hair care as I would have expected. Both my daughter had our hair done by Rashawna (sp?) who was very sweet and did a nice job. The test for me, is to see my natural curls revert when I wash my hair, and they did - so I was happy! Flash forward to a month ago. Rashawna is no longer there so my daughter's hair was done by Heather. A few minutes into blowing my daughter's hair out, Heather calls me over to suggest that I put a "texturizer" in my daughter's hair. I looked at her and said "aren't there chemicals in a texturizer?" and she said "Yes! it would make her hair a lot more manageable". I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I am committed to wearing my hair natural and keeping my daughter's that way too and I was shocked that she was so blatantly unsupportive of that. Heather then told me that she "wasn't trying to offend me" and then pointed to her own hair and said "I don't have a relaxer, but I can get away with just washing and blow drying my hair". Then she pointed to my daughter and said "she can't." - Oh gee, that's not offensive at all! Wow. Overhearing this, Donna (the owner), spoke up - I thought she would offer me some support - but she agreed with Heather and suggested that a "texturizer" would make my daughter's hair more manageable. Seriously? I thought I was at a salon that respected my desire not to relax my hair and would not be looking to convince me to permanently straighten it so that it would be "more manageable" for me (and for them - let's just be honest. That was the REAL issue!) Just say you don't want to deal with kinky hair - don't present yourself as a natural hair care salon if you are not up for it and if you don't plan to be supportive of every customer who desires to have healthy, natural hair. Needless to say, I cancelled my appointment for the following week and will not be going back. I left a message for Donna to give her this feedback directly, but never received a return call. To top it off, my daughter has heat damage from that last $90 salon visit. If you have a relaxer, you may be well-served at Epiphany. But my fellow Naturalistas, I suggest you stay away! read more
