The menu is pretty extensive for box lunch delivery. The clam chowder was good (albeit fairly salty) and had plenty of clams. The sourdough bread was very soft and warm. However the crust had a faint odd chemical taste. My coworker loved her sandwich and crab soup which also had plenty of crab meat. I will pass on their salads. I was floored by the used of iceberg lettuce. For $12, I must admit I expected mixed greens or romaine. I got the stray grilled chicken salad and the strawberries were absolutely not ripe. I'd try this place again and only stick to soup and sandwiches. To offer 18 salads and 16 use iceberg lettuce is insane. You're charging premium prices for salads that rely on lower cost, flavorless, basic, low nutrient filler. Clearly the goal is maximum profit margins on cheap ingredients. Do better! read more

I met a former co-worker in LaPlata for lunch over the long weekend and her dining choice was closed. I am not a fan of chain restaurants and recommended Apple Spice Junction as an alternative ~ it's a traditional deli restaurant (limited seating) with sandwiches, salads, and soup options. I haven't been to Apple Spice Junction in years ~ I am happy to report that they still offer freshly prepared reasonably priced food. So I have been coming here for years. The food recently is lacking substance. I went back up to the counter to ask for the sauce that comes with the sandwich, and I had to answer twice that no it was not in the box. The sauce might be an ounce container and doesn't even do much for the sandwich, but I like it, so I wanted what should have been there. I am not seeing how asking even for an extra would have been bad but I know from getting a salad once, that you have to play for an extra side of salad dressing. They could put together a much better sandwich, increase the side container size and not skimp on sauce for the hefty price you pay for lunch there. It would help improve the quality of the sandwich. The staff that works there are no longer nice and kind. I was there 90+ min before closing and the worker was struggling w the trash, noisily stacking chairs and sweeping right behind me. I felt intrusive staying to finish my sandwich. If they only have one counter worker and she is flustered closing up, then maybe mgmt could look into getting one other person to help. I must say my mother and I were very disappointed in the sandwiches we ordered for lunch today. My mother ordered the Turkey Avocado on Honey Wheat Bread. Her sandwich had maybe 3 very thin barely noticeable slices of avocado which was on only one half of her sandwich and nothing on the other. I ordered the Italian Sandwich on Sourdough. I must say this was by far the worse Italian sandwich I've ever had. The so called "sourdough bread" was more like plain regular white bread that was falling apart after I put the "Vidalia dressing" on it. Oh, speaking of the Vidalia dressing. On the menu it stated that it was "Vidalia Onion Mayonnaise ". Um no. I asked for extra Vidalia onion mayo because I hate a dry sandwich. Not only did they give me a dry sandwich with no condiments at all on it, they gave me one single packet of mayo that was enough for one side of one slice of bread, and then gave me a little cup of Vidalia salad dressing. On the menu it said Vidalia onion mayonnaise! I love supporting my local businesses but y'all made me mad with this one. Didn't get pics of my mother's sandwich, but here's some pics of mines. Let do better Apple Spice Junction! I expect to get exactly what's listed in the description on a menu, unless I'm told they ran out of something. Oh and please get some cookie sleeves for the chocolate chip cookie and stop laying it bare in the box. Ok, so I saw this place and I got excited! It's called apple spice, so naturally I thought there was going to be apple spice items being sold here. With the upcoming holiday season quickly approaching, I quickly started to think about all the apple holiday food, like apple cake, apple pie, apple fritters, apple butter, apple bread etc. So let me break the news softly. They don't have not one apple flavored anything in the whole store!!!! I know, it blew my mind too! I just didn't even know how to order or what to say once the lady informed me of this dream crushing news. However, for those of you looking for sweet potato and other baked goods, they have a decent variety. I did try their sweet potato casserole which is apparently a big hit there, and it was pretty good! They sell lots of sandwiches and deli type food, none of which I can attest to because after going in thinking about apple deliciousness I just couldn't bring myself to order a sandwich! I come to this spot quite often but to be given raw chicken is completely unacceptable. I contemplated posting this review but I've realized others should be warned of this to be careful. Ordered in store for takeout. Didn't seem busy with only two other customers waiting in store (parking lot was empty). Got back to work and took a bite which I noticed the sandwich smelled funny. After discarding that bite I broke the sandwich open to find what you see below. Called back to let them know of this issue and spoke to Kevin (manager) who stated to "come back any day and your next meal is on us." Ok, I have really loved Apple Spice in the past. But as of recently, the quality has really been not so great. Today has been the worst. I ordered a chicken Waldorf salad which comes with apples, grapes, candied walnuts, bleu cheese, and chicken with apple cider vinaigrette. I asked for only romaine lettuce and not the mix. I got romaine, apples, grapes, chicken - but also feta cheese instead of bleu, no walnuts, and the worst dressing (vinegar and oil) ever. The portion size was 1/2 of the normal size I've gotten in the past. I am really going to reconsider this as one off my favorite places to eat. read more

This used to be a good lunch spot but it is steadily going down hill. It now takes 40 plus minutes to deliver a sandwich... when my office is a block away. And they constantly forget items or even key ingredients. For instance today I waited 45 minutes for a chicken sandwich and that is advertised with pesto mayo, there was no pesto mayo, which rendered the sandwich flavorless. I also ordered a cup of chili this came in a paper bag that had 5-6 random tortilla chips tossed on top of the container...oh here is a bonus my cup of chili is ice cold!!! I stopped in on day off from work. A little lunch treat! The service was quick and friendly, just what I wanted. I tried the recommended Aloha salad. Greens with pineapple, mandarin oranges, coconut and slivered almonds. The citrus vinaigrette was nice and light and added a touch of sweetness. The chicken was chunked up nice for a to go salad. It came with their signature bread, one slice of white and one of wheat, a nice treat, but definitely not needed for the average salad eater. The cost of lunch, was just under $11 and this included unsweetened ice tea. They have a few tables inside and outside for eating in case you want to eat there. The atmosphere is simple and comfortable, but keep in mind that there is very limited seating indoors. However, there is plenty of seating outdoors if the weather permits. Fountain drinks and bottles available. The bread.. delicious! You can purchase it by the loaf as well if you'd like to take it home. Friendly regular staff here, so stop by and meet them. FIRST TIME TRYING. If i could rate this establishment a -10 rating based on my experience, I would. First, let me say the food was AMAZING. Second, I thought the selections were a pretty big variety. Now. . . I have to say that their customer service here? DISTASTEFUL. I ordered through the UberEats app and once I placed the order, I noticed it was charging me double for a meal I purchased. Soon as I was going to call the cafe, someone called me stating that the salad I ordered was no longer an item on their menu, so I had to change it. I then asked if there was a reason I was getting charged twice for that one meal I ordered. The person proceeded to say that sometimes UberEats charges more than the original price. . . double?? wow. Anyway, I waited an entire hour and a half, (place is no longer than 5 mins away), for my order to never show up. I called wanting to cancel and get a refund but this same person gave me a nonchalant response. "You'll have to do that through the UberEats app." I said, "Ok so they will be able to refund me?" They said, "Yes." So UberEats apparently can't refund you once the order is placed(something I wasn't aware of) So I called this person back and they said "Well I don't know what to tell you, it's nothing we can do." I asked for their name (Kara) & the manager. The manager(Michael) got on the phone and proceeded to tell me they will try to cancel it on their end but it's something I would have to take up with UberEats. One of the benefits of working in La Plata is being so close to Apple Spice! My job orders here every Friday for lunch, and I'm always sure to have my order ready. Every time I call in my order, they're so friendly. Their salads are huge and always super fresh. I love the herb roasted chicken salad. It's enough chicken to fill the entire salad, where you're not just left with lettuce at the end of your lunch. There's enough chicken for every bite! And it's seasoned so well! I go to Applespice for lunch a lot. Probably too much. Very pleased every time I go. They have gourmet box lunches--basically you get a sandwich, side, cookie, and even a mint with each lunch. Best sandwiches include: chicken cashew, turkey avocado, club, blt deluxe.... okay basically everything. I've tried a bunch of their sandwiches and the only one I've ever regretted was the curry chicken. The sides are also always tasty. They give you a legit homemade cookie, too. The thing that makes Applespice so awesome is the bread. It's actual, good, homemade bread. It makes such a difference on your sandwich. The staff is always pleasant and cheery. I ordered the Apple and Walnut salad and I could NOT believe they charged 8 bucks for this "salad". The lettuce was brown, the walnuts were soggy (if that's possible) and the dressing tasted like it came from a plastic pouch. The serving size was also rather small. The part of the experience that was the worst was when we went to return the salad and ask for our money back (this was done politely) we were not given our money back but were given another salad that looked just like the first. I wish there was a rating lower than 1 star. My family ordered a fruit arrangement for us after the death of my dad. They tried to deliver it on Thursday, but we weren't home. We called the delivery driver and told her we would not be home on Friday. We requested that it be delivered on Saturday and that we would wait for her on Saturday and were told by her that they would deliver it then. They did not show up until Monday, then tried to blame us for the fact that they could not deliver the arrangement because we were not home. She was rude to my mom and when I called about it, the lady was very rude and tried to justify the non-delivery. She even told me she had pictures. I've been to Apple Spice quite a few times over the years and have never been disappointed. OMG their curry chicken sandwich is so good and their cookies leave you begging for more. If you go you have to get a sandwich...I don't know what they do to make their bread so good...but I don't see how you can have a bad sandwich on it.
