This was a very special place to visit when I go to Berrien Springs in Michigan. What a surprise when I went there this past week! Unfortunately the store was closed and out of business. This was the place to ship food all the vegetarian needs. It was rather shocking and disappointing to me. Don't know of any plans for reopening in the near future. The deli has a great selection, with a menu that rotates thru the week. They also have a mini salad bar and an array of premade salads that you can add to your meal. This deli is a good place to get a good meal at a good price. All the food is vegetarian. They have a day for haystacks on Thursday , and they have a Chinese menu on Friday. And they are even open Sunday for lunch. So if you are looking for a good lunch menu in town check them out. read more

I've gone here since I was a kid. I used to live in Michigan. I don't remember it then. But now only enough to buy my own things, I find the things they sell kind of pricey. Many of the student here at Andrews say the same thing. You could compare it to a Trader Joe's or something like that. It has what you need. But if you're looking for something better on your wallet maybe here isn't the best choice. read more

This place is a go to for me for vegan, vegetarian, health food selections and so much more. They have everything from veggies, vegetarian meat substitutes, health food selections, their own bakery where I can vegan cake, food/salad bar, vitamins and supplements, they have fluoride free toothpaste, etc. It seems like a typical grocery store but it has a lot to offer for the health nuts out there. They are like a country Whole Foods store. I frequent the bakery for vegan cakes, banana bread, vegan pastries and blueberry muffins. Also love the clearance sections for a deal, and occasional veggie burgers and sandwich items. I also like their selection of vegan jerky and vegan tofutti ice cream sandwiches and ice cream...when they are on sale. When their not on sale can be a little pricey, but there's a lot of good sales and deals. It's a homey feeling whenever I come here, simple but unique in its own way. Lots of memories with my children here getting fruit strips and snacks. I love this place. read more

I've had mixed experiences here. I've had super rude cashiers and I've had super nice cashiers. I also have a mix of good and bad things to say. Here's a breakdown of my pros and cons: Pro - They have tons of specialty diet foods (vegan, gluten free, etc) - They have freshly made bread and desserts - They often have weekly discounts for students and senior citizens. Cons - The store needs some updates both in decor and in appliances (something seems to be wrong with their freezers all the time) - The entire stock of one item I wanted was going to expire in a few days. - The health food side doesn't have as much variety of other stores I'm used to. read more

Caution: It is near impossible to eat just one doughnut. They are absolutely amazing. I enjoyed the traditional glaze enough to eat the other three in the box. My colleague fell in love with the chocolate covered cake doughnut. Brevity should not be misinterpreted. This is good stuff and I highly suggest you check them out. read more

I needed cranberry juice and they had it!! I found everything I needed. They have a great selection of vitamins and natural supplements.

This place has a great selection of health products and groceries, especially for Berrien Springs. The staff is always quite friendly. Their specialty products can be overpriced compared to options in the city. Their prices on regular groceries seem to be fairly comparable to Harding's, (expensive but typical for Berrien Springs) but if you look for the little sale signs, you can often get some pretty good deals. Their deli is delicious but (you guessed it) a little expensive. I've come to always choose Apple Valley over Hardings. It seems to usually have the best prices in Berrien Springs and definitely the best quality. A few notes: The store is vegetarian with the exception of the gelatin-based products that they sell. They don't sell coffee beans here, but you can buy brewed coffee by the cup at the little cafe in the lobby. This store closes early on Friday, and they are closed all day on Saturday. Also, the music rocks, but in a geriatric kind of way. read more

I recommend Apply Valley's sprouted wheat bread. Try it - you'll thank me. It's odd because its round, still, it's awesome bread. They also have hot dog and hamburger buns made from the sprouted wheat dough. So when you're ready to upgrade the burger and dog buns on your table you'll want to check these out, too (big time!). You can mail order stuff from this grocery store, including their bakery items. I know. Mail order bread. Right? When you try this sprouted wheat bread you'll understand. read more

I go to the cafe at the front of the store called cafe 31 almost every day to get coffee witch is intelligentsia coffee so it's really good. They also offer really good food, witch is all vegetarian. I recommend the breakfast burrito and the pesto chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich doesn't use real chick but a vegetation substitute. The grocery store has it's own bakery and the cafe uses the fresh bread to make most of their sandwiches so that adds to the freshness. The store inside is long overdue for a remodel but has a better selection of "Whole Foods style" goods. They do not carry any meat in the store witch is really disappointing. I think that some local sourced organic beef and poultry would be a nice touch and I don't think it would turn away the regulars. Overall a great selection considering the nearest Trader Joe's or Whole foods is in Chicago. read more
