They have the meats!!! I searched high and low looking for a meat market that had wagyu steaks in the area. Family told me about this place and low & behold they have a large variety of meats at a reasonable price. Navigating the store is a bit cumbersome has they have it set up to flow a certain way. Other than that, for it to be on the smaller side of grocery stores it packs a lot of stuff from the butchered meat, to liquor, to seasonings. I had to do two laps to take it all in and stay to my grocery list, not randomly picking up stuff to purchase. Ultimately I picked up a few of their custom made brats, oxtail, and wings. The oxtail came out to $17 for what normally cost a bit more in other stores in other states. The wings prising wasn't bad either. So I'm definitely going to be back for that wagyu steak and other meats from the butcher area. Overall impression of Lowery's is high. I had never been to Lowery's meat market, so I was excited when my husband said he wanted to go buy some stuff from there. They had a lot of items that I definitely will have me coming back. The only reason we didn't get the sliced meat or cheese behind to counter was because there was a bit of a line and my anxiety has been super heightened since COVID-19. I wanted to get in and out, especially since the aisles weren't very wide and staying 6 feet apart was not easy. I am very interested in coming back at a time that isn't busy or when I feel more comfortable waiting in a line (which unfortunately could be a year or more) I did like that most of the bulk sized items they had were directly related to cooking lots of meat, like large containers of BBQ sauce. Another interesting thing I saw was they sold quail and rabbit here. I have eaten rabbit, but I'd never seen it sold in a store before. That was definitely a shock for me to see meat I normally think of as food people only eat if they hunt. Outside of the narrow aisles, this meat market was a perfect shopping spot. First timer there. Got ribs of all sorts and steaks and some vegetables. I'd give it five stars but given we are in the middle of a second wave, the precautions to decrease the risk of spreading the virus are nonexistent. Waiting for my ticket to come up to order at the butcher area, there were at least 40 people there shoulder-to-shoulder. At least two butchers had a mask but had it below their chin. There should be a maximum number of customers allowed in that area/store. If I return it be when they open or after this virus. read more

Great prices. Always look at their specials. There are some good deals besides the meat. Butter, eggs, canned tuna and more. Here's the thing. When buying beef always ask whether it's prime, choice or select. Many times the ads they have on the counter will tell you but sometimes they don't. If you buy select it's third best and is going to be tougher because there is less fat content. Fat is what makes your steaks taste great and tender. They have three types of ground beef: 100% ground beef, premium and sirloin. Get the premium it's better than the first and has more fat than the sirloin. And they do sell EVERYTHING nose to tail. You can by a pork or beef head (complete with eyeballs) if that's your thing. I usually get a case of bacon, forty pounds of chicken breasts, forty pounds of boneless chicken thighs, forty pounds of premium ground beef, ten or twenty pounds of bratwurst and occasionally I'll get ribeyes and a beef tenderloin that I cut up for filet mignon and a brisket. If you can't stomach the smell of blood don't go. It smells like a BUTCHER shop. I swear, people today are spoiled and want everything to be 'artisan'. Our first time here & it wasn't what we expected. We thought it would be just a meat market, but it is actually a full grocery store. It is small, but has everything you need. If you are getting meat, grab your number early. They are extremely busy in that department. We grabbed some great lean cuts of meat at prices you can't get in our area. Wonderful cuts of meat and amazing tasting cheese, HOWEVER; once, a while back, I was in line for meat and I came across a sealed box of glazed donuts. Ooh, yummy! Nope! There was one dead fly and one alive fly in the box. I think about it every time I go in there. Always received good service but I can't look passed the donuts. The prices are decent. The service and disorganization leave a lot to be desired. I suggested to the gentleman taking my order to write it all down and call my name when he was done. Don't come here a lot but when I do I really stock up on things like most people. First thing you gotta do is come earlier from what I've heard and also just be patient because you are going to have to wait when buying meat but it's worth it. I basically go in pull my number and look around to see what else I need or want while waiting for my Butcher to help me. Ok it's nothing fancy at all but the prices are why I come here once a month sometimes more in the summer. Just went in there today and bought some Ribeyes they cut them for me and I got about 22 steaks for $75. I also got ten pounds of boneless chicken breast for like fifteen dollars. There breast are always huge so I cut them in half most of the time. Also make sure you get the brats they are made there and are the best ones you'll eat. I've had all of them and the are all great my top three are Jalapeno and cheddar, beer and just the regular cheddar they are loaded with flavor don't forget these. read more

I have shopped here for years and the meat wasn't amazing but not bad and the prices are great. Sadly this last visit will be my last. Chicken breast are large but there is so much water and the texture is off. I no longer eat bacon but bought some for the fam. It smelled different while cooking not a normal bacon smell. The kids started eating it for breakfast and stopped because it tasted wrong. Sure enough that bacon did not taste like bacon it tasted like the off smell. We have a large family so the prices are right but meat has gone down hill a lot lately. Sadly we will be paying higher prices but we will know what we are eating. If someone had blind folded me I couldn't tell you I was eating bacon. I have had to find creative ways to use the chicken because if you bake it it sits in water. read more

I do agree with all the reviewers who complained about the smell, especially near the meat counters. I did buy some meats so we'll see how the quality is when I cook them. I should have listened to my wife and bought nothing because of the condition of the store, inside and out. This place is filthy inside. The spaces between the meat coolers are full of dirt, dust, and debris. Ceilings and floors dirty. I can't imagine what it looks like in the back room. But, that doesn't stop the customers from coming - it was mobbed on a Saturday afternoon. Won't be back. read more

For a family that is on a strict budget, I have to say this is the place to go. The hook, line and sink for me was the shaved ham for 1.99 a pound. But I decided to make a small list and pick up some other things while I was there. I got a bag of apples to make a cobbler for 1.99 a bag - the apples were so sweet and juicy. Ah, yes the meat - I got trimmed pork chops and arm roast. The chops were cut thicker than expected and the roast was very nicely cut into 3rd which is nice. I liked the variety that the store had to offer. My coworkers highly recommended that I got there and try them out so I did and so far I am satisfied. I guess we were there during rush hour. People buying 10lb packages of what ever meats. Their prices seemed very good. We bought 2 rib eye steaks, one smoked pork chop, some braunschweiger, asparagus and smoked Gouda cheese. We grilled the steak to a perfect med/rare. The meat was a tittle tough. $5.99 a pound, you get what you pay for. We made an omelet out of the Gouda, asparagus and smoked chop. After only one day in the fridge most of the asparagus was no good. Threw it away. All in all it wasn't worth the wait and the quality was not very good. We will not return. read more

I went here because everyone raves about the meat department and low prices. I've been to meat markets my whole life I know what they smell like regardless of full service. The scent that hits you when you walk in is bad meat. The reason their prices are so low is because it's expired or about to be even their packaged meats! Overall I ended up getting no meat and only picked up bread and some other items I could have gotten anywhere else. Overall I was extremely underwhelmed and the stench was too much. Sorry Costco, you just lost me. Excellent market with a staff that goes the extra distance to take care of your needs. Meat, produce, milk, booze, spices, you name it, they've got it. Costco is good, but this spot is much better for food items. Compact so you don"t have to walk a mile to get to your food items. Sorry, no TV's, lawn furniture or jewelry to wade through, but who cares. Far more comfortable and much less walking or wasted time. Super efficient staff. You have a much easier flow without having to purchase a membership or having to buy such large portions or packages. I drive all the way from the Chicago area to get there. I been here several times and feel it is worth the trip. I have family and friends that shop here frequently (with a 45 minutes + drive 1 way). They were expanding the store which was nice but I go there for the quality meats and prices. The staff has ALWAYS been friendly, not chatty because they're so busy and many have worked there for years. Yes some times the "meat market" smell is stronger than other times but I feel confident the meat is still high quality and they meet or exceed health department standards. We go to Lowery's frequently to stock up on meat, even though we live about 45 minutes away. The prices can't be beat. The friendly service is so wonderful in comparison to other businesses. Just like in any store, if you go during peak times, you will likely have to wait, but we just left on a Tuesday afternoon. We didn't even have to take a number. We had 3 people working on our order and we were out in like 15 minutes. We even added a last minute purchase when we noticed the price of the porterhouse steaks went down $1/lb. Oh boy. I look forward every time going to lowerys. Mr lowery walks around with that crisp white shirt calling the shots. He runs a tight ship and does a wonderful job doing so. I stop on the way home from fishing in berrien springs. I have bought strip loins, tbone porter loins,whole rib loin/ roast,and pork loins with bone and boneless. All the meat was whole in the cryovac. The place is modern and remodeled a little recently. I live in the sw suburbs of Chicago and bring back coolers full of meat and process it at home. Everything from pigs feet to chicken wings to need york strip roast that are 14lbs. You can have them cut it to whatever thickness you want for streaks.
