My first visit to this Applebee's location - 4 stars. I pretty much knew what to expect. My expectations were pretty low. But our visit exceeded my expectations. First of all, I have to admit that my order was a pain in the ass. I was fully expecting some screw-ups. Since I eat Keto, I had some specific requests with ala carte sides. The star of my meal was a 12 ounce ribeye dinner. Much to my surprise, the food came out quickly, it was all good, and it was all cooked perfectly. Our server was great too. I don't know how this place makes money. During our visit, there were only 2 other occupied tables. But I counted 8 staff mulling around the front like lost cattle. And who knows how many more work in the back kitchen? I guess they make it work somehow. This is a national chain, not a top chef restaurant or a farm to table bistro. Honestly the food is pretty decent for an Applebee's... But their wait staff definitely leaves something to be desired... My wife and I went here for dinner on a Sunday evening after a movie. The service was prompt and polite, the food was hot and came out quickly, and the atmosphere was nice. The football games were on tv, but it was not overcrowded or rowdy. This is one of the best experiences that I have had at Applebees. Great job! We will be back. read more

Terrible service. I walked in and there were more employees than customers-I stood there for 8 minutes with no acknowledgement as they continued to help people that came in after me. We order take out. We had artichoke and spinach dip and chicken wonton Street tacos. Artichoke and spinach dip was good but the street wonton tacos were really tasty those we would order again and again. Since we ordered takeout we did not have much interaction with the staff but they greeted us right away and directed us to the bar to place our order. Bartender came over and greeted us took our order and rang us up and about 10 or so minutes had our order for us and asked if we wanted condiments or table ware which was nice since we are staying in a hotel. I ordered chicken Alfredo which is about $14 and the chicken was burnt. The burnt flakes got not my Alfredo and sauce so everything tasted burnt. Very disappointing. In the past service and food has been good. Recently however I have experienced burnt food, inconsistent food preparation of some menu items that I like and poor customer service. Five or six servers and bartenders gathering between the kitchen in the bar yet no one would service our table. When someone finally did come over we said we just wanted water and he kept trying to push drinks on us. When he finally understood we didn't want liquor then he tried to sell us gift certificates before we even ordered. Pretty disappointing. Grand Rapids has a fair amount of restaurants but they really need Applebee's to step up their game. read more

I've been ordering from here for over a year. At 1st it was all good, but the past 3 or 4 times the steaks were nearly raw! Disgusting . I ordered 2 nights ago curbside to go and half my order was missing. I called and they said they'll cook it up and have it out to me in 5 minutes and offered me 2 gift certificates. Well the steak was raw again, the quasadilla didn't have onion peppers in it, and the garlic chicken nuggets were RAW inside. The gift certificates they gave me were expired. Worst food EVER! The last time I went was only because my friends 4 year old daughter choose Applebee's. If it wasn't for that little angel I wouldn't have stepped foot in there again. The turkey sandwich I received my last visit was below standards to put it lightly. It looks like they gave me the crap cut offs most restaurants would throw away. This is probably the worst Applebee's I have ever been too. While the severs are nice the food always has to be remade. Today my mother order a triple bacon burger and in the burger was a hair.( the hair was white and my mother's hair is brown) Also every time that I have gone to this one I have gotten sick or felt horrible afterwards. We usually have a great meal & service at this Applebee's. We do try to avoid getting a certain waitress. I don't know her name but her section is to the right of the door every time we are there. She is a nice person but is a flake and always spaces stuff out etc. We walked in at 4:45pm. Not busy and lots of staff standing around. One eating at a table with a guy that had his head on the table. They all saw us standing there and did nothing. Finally the waitress we try to avoid comes up. We asked if we were suppose to seat ourselves? She says "No, everyone is just slacking right now" Wow. Ok. She sat us in her section. And walked away. We waited quite a while watching all the staff standing around and nobody took our drink order. She finally arrived. I told her I wanted a water and ice tea. She said ok and went to another table without asking my dinner partner what he wanted! The water glass had food stuck on the outside. The food was great and she was consistently good after that. The carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a while. Went to the restroom and on the way the tile floor was super sticky. The toilet was dirty and needed scrubbing. There was a big sweaty guy with rumpled clothes and messy hair was at the wait station of the bar or hanging by the wall. I think he was the manager. He looked like he was on something. read more

Grand Rapids does not have a lot options, so Applebee's is supposed to be one of the "top" places in town. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. TVs were showing a softball game, although Minnesota Twins were playing that morning. I sat at the bar where I was served by Megan. I ordered a drink - Mango Jalapeño Margarita- which was average. The bartender seemed a little bit lost looking for items to prepare my drink. Maybe because this is new item. I also ordered a Cedar Chicken to eat. Chicken was super dry, rice was good, but overall wasn't a good meal. My two stars review is based on service specially. Bartender did not provide a good service plus food was less than average, but not awful. I would have give a three stars review if service was a little better. read more

I have been here for 2 1/2 hours now and I still don't have my food, my lemonade took 50 minutes to get to me (not exaggerating) and when my chicken finally came out it was cold and my fries were WAY over salted. I had a burger at this place on Thurs. evening, 7/18/13 and I would say it was fairly good. However, their beer selection is awful! Just a thought but is Applebees owned at least partially by Budweiser? For a place that want to be a neighborhood bar you would think they would place some value on local brews. Don't go there for the beer! In fact don't go to Grand Rapids for the beer. They are still living in beer's dark times up there. read more

It wasn't busy when we arrived. Staff was friendly but not attentive. Our first server took our beverage order, which we received in a reasonable amount of time. Our second server took our order. A third server brought my salad but the appetizer never came. Then nothing. My husband was never offered more coffee. At this point I'm not sure who our server is. No one in site. A large group came in and we have been waiting 45 minutes. Finally our food came delivered by a 4th server. It appeared to have sat for a while in the kitchen before it was brought to us since it was cool and soggy. This is when the appetizer arrived.The server apologized that my fries weren't ready yet. I didn't order fries. When they arrived they were hot and good. Sadly the best part of the meal was food we never ordered. My husband had to get up to find someone for the bill-we had been done for a while sitting with a pile of dirty dishes. I've had drinks and dinner at the Applebee's in GR quite a few times over the last few years (once every few months) as there are few selections in town. The last few times in particular they REALLY push the appetizers and desserts to the point of being annoying. The waitresses act like you break their hearts when you tell them you are just there for drinks. It happened again recently and I'm tired of playing their corporate games of making sure to sell the drink, appetizer, dinner, and dessert.
