I just want to let you know I was at your location in linden New Jersey and had the worst experience. We didn't have a server for about 15 minutes Our drinks 25 minutes into being seated We didn't get our food until an hour of being there. And our appetizer sampler was brought to us after I finished my entree because it was never brought out or our server forgot to put it in. And then never came back to check on us. And no manager came to check on us. nor did he even offer to take the appetizer platter off the bill for being extremely late. so after waiting an hour to eat, 20 minutes to get our drinks and didn't get greeted until 15 minutes of being there, we got no compensation whatsoever. I worked as a bartender, customers shouldn't wait more than 3 minutes to be greeted. We had a movie to make so we paid and left and had no time to talk to a manager after we were done. Worst Applebees I've EVER been to! Service GARBAGE! All the food was cold and didn't even come out at the same time. They gave me honey mustard instead of the dressing that goes on the oriental chicken salad. I got a dirty wine glass and they took forever to replace it for me. My husband got a shark bowl specifically for the gummy sharks and they didn't put the sharks on I had to ask for some. Bread sticks were hard as if they had been sitting out for ever. Visited Applebees on 12-4-2023 with my wife and mother in law. It was during the early afternoon so it wasn't crowded. The Christmas lights gave the establishment a different but inviting look. After a few minutes the hostess appeared and sat us at a booth which we request. The establishment was clean and presentable. Our waitress Lex was very friendly and attentive from start to finish. Our food was prepared, cooked and served fairly quick. Drinks were good and well priced as so was our food. We enjoyed our experience at Applebees in Linden. read more

I normally try to refrain from writing reviews about chain restaurants in here because, if the chain is doing things right, every location should be the same. That being said, this location was very recently renovated and is a welcome departure from many of the other Applebees locations that I've been to. I dare say the vibe they were going for borderlines on hipster, but it seems to work; at least enough to get me excited about a chain I tired of 10 years ago. The biggest selling point beyond the decor is the enhanced craft beer selection, with 8 taps dedicated to craft brews (this is in addition to the normal Applebee's beer lineup)- the selections seem to rotate on a regular basis, chalkboard of beers, ibu's, abv's and all. They do have a craft beer club that gives you a punch card where if you try a beer from each tap position, you get your photo on the wall. Not sure if all Applebees are headed in this direction, but if they are, it is certainly a refreshing change of pace for the brand. read more

If I could give a half of a star I would! We (2 adults, 2 teens) visited this establishment this evening and from the moment we were seated the experience grew increasingly worse. Our server was extremely rude and condescending. To save our lives we couldn't understand how she was hired. There were a group of loud obnoxious intoxicated patrons seated at the bar. In the booth next to us there was a couple with a Teacup Yorkie in which management informed us was a service dog (as if). The dog was barking and his owner was coughing almost the entire time. It took 26 minutes for us to receive 4 out of the 5 beverages we ordered then an additional 8 minutes for the remaining beverage. The server loudly in the most rude tone told us we had to wait on the bartender who had a full bar to serve along with the entire restaurant smh. Meanwhile there were plenty of staff who could've and should've jumped in to help. Come to think of it is a server capable of using the soda machine? Naturally we asked to speak a manager and it took 16 minutes for one to appear. That was a lost cause and after speaking with her we had a better understanding of why our server's rudeness is tolerated. After the manager walked away rolling her eyes the server came over a few moments later slapped the bill on the table and walked away without uttering one single "Thank you for coming" word. If it hadn't been for the sweet young lady's apology who actually had the dog at one of her tables I'd consider never going to Applebees again but I highly doubt I will ever return to the one here in Linden, NJ. If you think my review is harsh you won't want to hear what my sister has to say about the experience. Overall this was by far the worse experience I've ever had! god place, nice atmosphere, good food. what's good is that they open until midnight so can get some late snack. If you like sports bar area which is pretty big is filled with large TV screens and always on. I ordered salmon and salad; salmon ($17) is a small but good size I had side of double mashed potatoes. Salmon was good but it didn't feel like it had any flavor or spices in it, very plain, but if you hungry it's good enough. While visiting an old and very dear friend, she suggested we grab some lunnch. Im not a huge fan of chain restaurants but it was not a good time to be a snob about it. We wanted something quick and cheap... and not from a drive thru. Applebees had their 2 for $20 deal where two diners can grab an appetizer and entree each for the total of $20. I didnt want to have such a heavy lunch. The chinese chicken salad looked good, surprisingly. So i ordered that. The serving was quite large. ice berg lettuce with crispy chinese noodles, crispy fried chicken, almonds and cabbage with a sweet dressing. This salad was not healthy by far. But dammit, that salad was freakin delicious. I asked for my dressing on the side and was glad i did. With just a drizzle of their dressing the salad was the perfect lunch. (even if it was probably 700 calories). The service was realy slow. But it was 2pm on a Friday. read more

This apple bees is a horrible joke. Unprofessional staff from the greeters, host and hostess, waitress and even the store manager. We ordered 4 appetizers and 3 dinners. We received two of the wrong appetizers, dinner took over 45 minutes to hit the table aNd two dinner orders were wrong!!! They never came to refill sodas. It was pretty good in my opinion. I didn't really have a problem. The only thing I would suggest is to be more clear on the menu. The menu had said four cheese Mac n cheese, so I thought that I was going to get Mac n cheese but then I got a cheesy pasta kind of thing that had basil on it, (which I do not like) and again they were not clear on the basil being added. Once part of an airport (that still exists behind the complex), "Aviation Plaza" started to build up slowly over the past five years until it became a central shopping destination point in Linden, NJ. Among the stores it boasts are Home Depot, Target, Marshall's, Shop Rite and an Applebee's (there's more, but that gives you the highlights). I've been eating at this Applebee's for about five years now (not too long after they opened) and over the years their menu has changed quite a bit going from basically "bar food" fare to adding in everything from seafood to healthy choices. What has *not* changed over the years are their community oriented walls filled with pictures of local High School sports teams and students and fantastic service. I think almost every time I go the staff has turned over, but their service has consistently been great and friendly. On my most recent visit I was delighted to see they have added a menu of items under 550 calories. My girlfriend and I each ordered from this menu. My girlfriend ordered the Grilled Dijon Chicken & Portobellos and I ordered the Signature Sirloin with garlic herb shrimp. Each dish included a variety of steamed vegetables and beautifully roasted potatoes. In both cases, the meat was wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. The chicken was cooked through and tender while the steak was medium (as I had asked it to be), nicely cooked on the outside and pink on the inside. With the additional elements (the mushrooms and shrimp) were great choices to match up with the proteins. The convenience of being near so much shopping and its good food and service mean I'll make a return to this restaurant soon! read more

We were driving north on the New Jersey turnpike when our hunger began to set in. We needed to stop somewhere, and fast. As we pulled up Google search, we knew exactly what to search for, and so did Google, allowing us to select our destination from "recents". It was the same place we always go for that familiar dining experience in an unfamiliar land. It's the kind of place where no matter the location, you walk in and feel right at home. I'm talking about your neighborhood bar and grille. I'm talking about Applebee's. Ole Faithful, as we call her, has been serving us plates of consistency for the past 10+ years. Why dine anywhere else? Why take the risk?! It's a scary world out there. We are certainly not the "chancy" type. We knew what we wanted, and we were bound to find it, even in the strange, seemingly neglected land of Linden, NJ. As we pulled off the Elizabeth exit, surrounded by a towering power plant and its associated forms of gas and solid waste, our appetites were growing to the point of desperation. Thankfully, we were just a few minutes away from our dining sanctum. We pulled into the parking lot in short order, with the giant Apple gleaming down upon us, a welcoming beacon. Upon entering, we were greeted by our host, who seemed to struggle mightily to activate the facial muscles responsible for producing any semblance of happiness. A cold, "ten minutes", was what we were told. Ok by us. Off the bar we went to wait it out with a couple of cold ones. So far, so good. Twenty-five minutes was up before we knew it and we were led over to our first table, which was fine aside from it missing a stabilizer. Unfazed, we shoved about seven sugar packets under one of the legs to prevent our drinks from sliding off, to no avail. We only had to wait about ten minutes for a server to come by before asking to move to another table. Table #2 was absolute perfection! Although, perfection is a relative term in the world of franchise dining. This table didn't wobble, which was really great. After exchanging pleasantries, our waitress asked if we were ready to order. We needed just another minute or so to decide on which appetizer we wanted to go along with two for $20 deal, which we relayed to our server. Rookie mistake on our part. "Another minute" turned into twenty before the server returned and we finally placed our order. After another short wait, this one just a hair shy of thirty minutes, our meals arrived. I don't know if the microwave was on the fritz or what, but no matter because the spinach-artichoke dip, oriental chicken salad and American burger (with fried egg) were all as good as could be expected. We wolfed down our food. After about two hours it was, sadly, time to leave. The proverbial "cherry-on-top" was the aroma permeating throughout the restaurant. It wasn't cherry blossom or pumpkin spice, but tobacco smoke. The seating quarters are a bit cozy in there and our chain-smoking neighbors were giving off quite the scent. All part of the experience of eatin' good in the neighborhood. It's not a question of IF we'll be back, but WHEN. Five stars! read more

My husband and I each ordered s classic burger without cheese with a house salad. I asked for oil and vinegar dressing which the waitress got wrong at first but seemed to get it after I corrected her. I didn't get the oil and vinegar but some other dressing so the waiter who brought me the wrong dressing said he'd get me the oil and vinegar but he came back with a tiny cup with it already mixed which I didn't want since I cannot mix it to my taste so he came back with two tiny cups, one with a little vinegar and one with so little olive oil that I couldn't season my entire salad with it. So chintsy with their salad dressing! I gave up trying to get what I ordered in sufficient quantities. They were wasting my time. How many times must I ask for a simple dressing? My husband got rare hamburger. He despises rare meat so he complained and I switched his half-eaten burger with mine. Haven't ever done that before. I guess he could have complained and waited for another 10 minutes for a cooked burger but then his fries would be cold and his time wasted. We just wanted to eat and get out. Wendy's would have been better and less aggravating. Also we came because they had a special of $10 for a burger with fries and a drink that day but when we got there they said it was only take-out which was in the fine print but no asterisk in the ad to guide you to it. I appreciate that there is a restaurant willing to serve customers firstly, in this pandemic, and secondly, outdoors in this heat wave. With that being said, I believe that there is still a duty to make the customer feel welcome and at least greet them with your name, check on them, smile at least once, and show some body language that you actually appreciate our business. The 3 staff members we encountered were so below standard. Our servers attitude was simply horrible. Her first words were "you know what you want to drink?" Never looked us in the eye once. After she took very long, we asked another server, Rich, if he could take our order because it she was taking too long. He unenthusiastically went and told our server, and then she came back and gave us a scolding about not to bother any other server. Once she took our order, We had to call her back TWICE as she kept walking away cutting us short. I had to actually yell "hello, excuse me, we're not done". But it gets better because she had me yell out the remainder of my order across 2 tables to were she was. We were just afraid to ask her for any sides. We asked another waiter, .....never came. My server's attitude was equally as bad to every other table. She had terrible body language. Facial gestures, urgency, you name it,....it was just the opposite of what you expect from a waiter at Applebee's, a big chain restaurant. We left absolutely no tip. The most helpful employee there was the nice gentleman who was disinfecting the tables. When the other two servers completely forgot our salad, he dropped what he was doing to make sure we were ok. Went in there with a group to celebrate and the only thing we were celebrated with was an attitude! We had a group of 13 and they told us it would be about a 20-30 minute wait so we said that is ok we understand we have a big group. However, 40 minutes go by and they THEN begin to start looking for seating, as if the 40 minutes was for nothing while they were seating other people? They said they would have to split our group because of seating and that apparently one waiter cannot take all of us, so we said ok as long as you can place us near each other i would hope you have those seats as we waited 40 minutes and you seated others that came after us. It was very hard for me to enjoy my family get together dinner when a deranged woman who I assume to be a manager considering how poorly she was talking to the poor hostesses, was ruining the experience. (I overheard them calling her Sam or Samantha). After I came in about 5 or 6 o'clock an influx of people rushed the host stand and it seemed like the hostesses were trying their best to seat them. Sadly this was not enough for the manager who came to the host stand, seated some of the guest, and proceeded to yell at the hostess in the front of the store right above our table. She finished off her rant with "if you don't like it you can leave." I have never seen such an unprofessional scene by a "manager" and I can't imagine there being much work moral there. The quality of service has gone down. I haven't eaten from any Applebee's in years and seems like not much has changed to me anyways. Condiments and utensils should be a given with all orders. I placed 2 orders for pickup. The first was a 3 cheese chicken pasta and the other was chicken tenders and fries. I got to my hotel room and sat down to eat. Not only were there no utensils in the bag but also no condiments to go with my chicken and fries. Guess I was supposed to eat with my hands. On 6/17/19, I ordered dinner from Applebees in Linden, NJ on Seamless.com at 10:15pm. For whatever reason, even though I paid for this order in full through the website, the restaurant never received the order. When I called to check in, they were rude, unwilling to even see the receipt that was emailed to me proving I had paid, and told me that if I wanted my food, I would need to pay again. I was clearly upset and losing my patience over the phone, because I HAD PAID IN FULL for something that the restaurant was REFUSING to rightfully deliver to me. The manager I spoke to was incredibly rude, condescending, and unhelpful; I seriously question his ability to manage effectively based on this interaction. When I offered to email him a copy of the receipt PROVING I had paid, he wouldn't provide an email address; he had no intention of trying to help. I asked for his name to complain to corporate, and he spitefully refused to help me or refund me after that. I called Seamless to refund my order, which they did. This establishment was by far THE WORST Applebee's experience I've ever had. Rather than trying to help a customer get to the bottom of why this order never came up in their system, they refused to accept any responsibility for a potential error on their part, and outright refused to help a customer who had already paid in full. The manager kept telling me "If it's not in our system, we can't deliver the food without us charging you again". read more

Waiter forgot what we orders came back 20 minutes later asked if we ordered yet and what we ordered. Ordered cheeseburger egg rolls, either oil is dirty and unfiltered daily or they over cooked them. Order a bowl of French onion soup it was half full mostly bread a few onions and cheese was not caramelized. It's been about 3 years more or less that I've been back here to this Applebee's and it hasn't been the same ever since 2013!...I don't know what happened, but it has gone a downward spiral and there's no way back up. Today I was invited to eat here I quickly said NO! Not there. I was convinced to give it a try because they "fixed it up" and the "menu is updated" since the last time I was here. Well here I am 10/3/2016 the exterior and the interior does look nice, so I said ok' let's see the "new menu"....It's the same lame no flavored food and lousy service, why did I come already knowing is was going to suck!
