My friends and I have been working on the road for weeks. We wanted to get a drink and a nice meal, and Applebee's is right by our hotel. We went to the bar and met the best bartender ever, Rea. She gave three out of five of us the best blue balls. They were way bigger than usual too thanks to her skills. Update A couple of innocent family men on vacation saw our blue balls and wanted to try the same experience. They also seemed to enjoy them as much as we did. Just terrible.. last night I ordered a whiskey bacon cheeseburger. 1. My burger didn't have a top bun.. 2. No whiskey sauce.. Spearfish has VERY limited food options and were pleased we had this option across the street from our hotel. The service was great. Upon entering, a friendly female server came to the host stand and greeted us and asked if we could wait 5-10 minutes. We could tell they were busy for the staff on hand and we told her we would just sit at the bar. The bartender was Noah and he quickly acknowledged us and told us it would be a minute. The staff proved to be friendly and quickly acknowledged the customer. Knowing that the restaurant can serve a lot of fried and comforting dishes I was pleased to see the calorie count listed by each item. With that in mind, I was going to check out the salad options and was pleased to see the steak options were less calories and sounded appetizing. I ordered the Ribeye with mashed potatoes and broccoli. My steak was what I expected for Applebee's, tasty but not high quality and the sides were delicious. My husband got the Sirloin and his was a bit more appealing with the same wonderful sides. A couple things I noticed: Noah who had to deal with a customer sitting next to me who was dissatisfied with his ribs. Noah told him he would make it right, however the man resisted and got up to leave his plate and unfinished frozen cocktail. As he was leaving he said, "Are we good?" It put Noah in a bad position, however Noah replied "Yes". He should of paid for his drink. Another couple arrived who gave Noah a long dissertation of the special things and items to prepare for their drinks and meals. I almost laughed as I heard her order a frozen cocktail with a mug of hot water for her brain freeze. Noah handled it like a champ! Aaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhh. Kris York and I decided to treat his dad Bob York and our friend Gregory Woods out to supper for Veterans Day. Everything was going fine until we got seated..... First: they forgot my drink (no big deal flashed someone down and got my drink) Second: they only brought one of our two appetizers and we finally flagged our waiter down and asked for our other appetizer. Third: nobody bussed our table before our food came so there wasn't room on the table for all the dishes 4: they completely forgot to make my sons meal 5: my boyfriend ordered a medium steak with green beans and got a rare steak with broccoli 6: still nobody has bussed the table 7: still no refills on any of our drinks 8: the host walked by our table cussing and swearing (normally I would ignore this since I'm a cussing mom) buuuuuut he's on the clock and I was shocked he was so comfortable cussing in front of customers let alone a strangers child 9: we asked for to go boxes and we're only brought one for 3 plates and we had to literally ask a second time for more boxes. Normally I'm not a Karen buuuuuut I requested a manager before asking for our ticket. I was absolutely disgusted with the service at Applebees tonight. 3 solid stars because their Blue Hawaiian creeped up on me as tasty as it was we doubted the alcohol in it but it's there...SURPRISE!!! As for the artichoke dip, the chips were hit or miss. Most of them were stale as if it sat out for a little while. We ordered the 2 for $20 and my chicken cavatappi was ok. The chicken pieces had its salty ends that really puckered me up! The pasta mix wasn't bad at all just tastes like any other mac n cheese mix. Meal was decent. Hunger was satisfied and we left feeling good. There are tv screens throughout the restaurant and lots of sports to watch no matter where you sat. Applebees was conveniently located across from our hotel, the Hampton Inn Spearfish. This place is literally going to the dog's. we were waiting for our meals when another customer came walking a rather large dog through the restaurant he came to our table and licked my wife's hand and was going to other tables sniffing the food. I found this rather disgusting. I have filed a complaint with the South Dakota health department, I am not prepared to share my dining area with an animal. Not the greatest experience it super convenient to our hotel. We were seated right away and the waiter took our order quickly. We waited quite a while for our appetizer to come out - so long that we had finished our drinks. The meal was a while after that. A couple of tables that came in after us, one even after we had place our order, for their food before we did. Short of that, typical Applebee's. The food here is really not that good, Applebee's has really gone down hill over last handful of years if you ask me. However, this particular location the staff is really really nice and it was conveniently located across the street from my hotel. I miss some of the items from the menu that they have removed but such is life. I did not care for the food I ordered however my beer was cold and the waitress was super friendly and they did have something on TV that was worth watching. When I was all finished and realized that I couldn't get my strawberry shake to go so the lady let me take my glass with me to my hotel and I simply returned it the next day. I've been to many different Applebee's locations and this one is about the same. They seemed rushed with our food. We both ordered 8oz to sirloin steaks, 1 medium well. 1 well. The main course showed up rather quickly and as I suspected both steaks were underdone. I sent mine back and they either microwaved it or put it on a very hot grill because it came back rather quickly. It was almost done as I asked. My wife's steak was almost rare but she refused to send it back so she basically ate about half since it was so difficult to eat The salads were good as were the baked potatoes. The past few times has been horrendous. We were there 10/30/22. My husband and I ordered the burgers, I had the All American he had the mushroom one. The guy that delivered our food handed me my plate in hesitation and said, " oh this doesn't look right." He handed my kids their meals and said, " sorry, more fries are coming." They had very little fries. My husband's bun and burger were burnt. My burger and bun were burnt so bad that the cheese was burnt flat around burger. We sent our plates back but were hesitant because we waited 40 min. I understand and I am very patient with staff shortage, I get it, however we received perfect burger (with no fries) in roughly 8 minutes. Not sure why I sent my burnt burgers with fries back and received only a burger back. We were done at this point, ate our burgers and left. Our receipt was $5.00 for my husband's burger and they took $4.00 off my CHILDS cheeseburger, not mine at all!! As I said, we were just done. Not sure I will be back after that since the past few times it has been horrible, even to get seated seams like a chore, even if you are the only one at the door and not many people there eating. Late lunch on 7-25-18. Didn't expect much off the 2/$20 menu but was so pleased with burger & onion rings. Cheese & bacon incorporated into the meat patty. Onion rings were big, hot and tasty. The Fiesta Lime Chicken was wonderful. Came with rice and tons of melted cheese on a bed of mini tortilla slices. Our appetizer was Spinach/Artichoke dip and was as good as we have had anywhere. It's your run of the mill Applebee's. Pretty good but if you want something more unique, go up the hill to Lucky's.

I like Applebees. Service is good and very attentive in which they fully deserved my 25%+ tip. Their new green goddess salad was perfect. I had the ribs this time and they weren't so perfect but edible. They were overcooked (or reheated too many times) and were kind of chewy, that stuck to your teeth feeling like you are eating dots at the movies.
