Fun place for a burger and beer. Food in Deadwood is not for gourmands, so save yourself the time and money and go to Mustang Sally's for a straightforward meal. They even have a full bar! This is a sports bar, and they have the cool option to have a half portion of an appetizer instead of fries for a $3 upcharge. My husband was delighted to be able to have fried mushrooms as his side. The kids and husband had milkshakes, and they were made quickly, and everyone loved them. They have a bunch of local beers. I enjoyed my Rapid City made beer and enjoyed a sip of my husband's Spearfish beer. I had a burger, which was perfect. The fries were good. I also had some of my daughter's hot wings. They were meaty and spicy. I loved them, although I wish they had come with celery sticks. Not a big deal, though. I've eaten at this restaurant every time we've visited the area, so this experience was incredibly disappointing. After a long day of traveling, we called to place a takeout order about 30 minutes before closing. The employee who took our order, a woman in a green shirt, listened while my sister and I ordered, then let out a loud, frustrated sigh and said, "Ugh... is that it then?" Her tone made it very clear that our order was an inconvenience. When I arrived to pick up and pay, I stood at the counter much longer than I should have, and it became obvious I was being ignored. The woman in the green shirt who had taken our order made eye contact with me multiple times but continued to act as if I wasn't standing there. There were three employees behind the counter, yet none of them acknowledged me. The only person who finally came over to help was a kind woman who had been sweeping on the other side of the restaurant. She stopped what she was doing because no one else would. I have 13 years of waitressing experience, so I completely understand how frustrating last-minute orders before closing can be. However, that's never an excuse to treat paying customers with disrespect. We called before closing, were polite throughout the interaction, and simply expected basic customer service. If taking an order 30 minutes before closing and acknowledging a customer at the counter is too much to ask, then maybe customer service isn't the right fit. Being busy is understandable. Being rude and pretending customers don't exist isn't. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

They have indoor and outdoor seating with umbrella coverage. You'll need it because rain and hail can come in minutes! The service was friendly and fast for us, but we had some others in our group that came about 20 minutes later during the dinner rush. They waited a lot longer than us so I recommend getting there by 5:30pm or earlier for dinner. I had the hamburger and fries basket. Both tastes good but the Swiss cheese was more of a melted liquid cheese than a slice. It reminded me of mayonnaise. The meat patty was as expected the taste and texture meant it was likely not freshly made but perhaps with some filler or a frozen patty. The bun and veggies inside were good. Prices were $10-20 depending on if you ordered a kids meal or adult meal. The location is nice as you can watch the street show or at least be near it. Fun diner ambience. read more

Went here back to back nights and had completely different experiences. Night 1 - quick, delicious, one of the best meals I'd had on our trip. Was super excited to come back and try something else! I watched them scoop ice straight from the ice well with the cup (gross), then proceed to wipe and eye booger and flick it INTO THE ICE WELL?? WTF?? We had the pleasure of being served by Gabby, and she made our experience very pleasant and enjoyable. We decided, since we were at a sports bar to go all in on the appetizers. So we had the Combo basket. Boy howdy! That was filling. The chicken nuggets were very crisp and savory, the mini corn dogs were baseball stadium worthy, the mozzarella sticks were complete and gooey, and the onion rings were crisp. Even though we were not accustomed to an all fried meal, we enjoyed it greatly. The vibe is definitely sports, and they have signed jerseys of many famous professional athletes. This was a win! Family friendly place to get a decent burger in Deadwood. It was right across the street from our hotel so the location couldn't have been better. Plently of outdoor seating to people watch and just enjoy the cool old downtown buildings. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was okay. We ordered some chili cheese fries to start since we were starving. I'm from Texas so I'm no fan of beans in chili and their chili was mostly beans and sauce with very little meat. Maybe that's just the way they do chili in South Dakota, it's just not for me. The burger, however, was pretty good if a little dry. Maybe the hotel steered me wrong but I asked for a middle add the road restaurant. Something for everyone. The waitstaff was nice and professional, and we sat outside were it was very windy and cold. We ordered mushroom burger, chicken fingers, chili, and a side salad. My sister liked the burger although it wasn't hot from the kitchen. Chicken was fine but French fries were cold. We ordered this first since the kid was hungry but it came out 30 minutes after the rest of us got our food. Beer was cheap if that's what you're looking for but drinks were tiny. Chili was average but very hot and the side salad came from the cafeteria yesterday. Won't be going back. Certainly didn't take food pics. read more

We were in town for my & my fiancée's wedding. Friday night (10/11) we had a group of 15 for early dinner-5 pm. I called ahead & they could accommodate us. We arrived around 5 to find we had seating less than what we asked, so we asked for another table. We couldn't get one until some other patrons were done. That's fine. No problem. The waitress came to take our drink order & one of our group was telling her what people wanted to drink to help her out. The waitress got flustered & said she would go get another waitress because she couldn't handle it. Then the manager came over & asked us to leave because we made the waitress cry. Really?? In no way, shape or form were we rude to the waitress. The manager was confronted by another person in our group. He again said we were asked to leave because we made the waitress cry. We then called Jacob's Brew Pub to see if they could accommodate 15 people. Without hesitation, they said yes & we went down there & had a great meal with no problems with our orders. Mustang Sallys needs to get less sensitive waitresses when someone tries to help them. They do have good food, but service was sub-par. Side note: we were in Mustang Sally's at 2 pm that same afternoon for cocktails. Smaller group. But part of our group was never asked if they wanted anything to drink. Crappy service. We've stopped in twice during our 5 day trip to Deadwood. This is a generous review based on an average of both visits: Food 1 - the meats are mostly fillers on both the ground beef-ish and mechanically separated chicken patty. I didn't go in expecting gourmet but I did expect meat. The chili burger with chili fries is likely the worst burger I've ever had, counting fast food. Think tomato soup slopped on top with 2 kinds of beans. I know the staff are limited to supplies on hand, still, as a cook or a server, I'd be embarrassed to put that plate out. I couldn't detect a hint of spice and the bun was soaked through. The main event was the guy who lost is hot dog all over the sidewalk on exiting... in many places. Now, I can't say if it was the food, too much booze or whatever- but I'm willing to bet every patio diner regrets being there. It was never even rinsed off. The fries were different both days. We had soggy steak fries day 1. Tonights were better though still nothing beyong the generic bag of frozen goods at your local store for a buck. I made it through 3 bites of the chicken sandwich and tapped out. I'd rather go hungry... and I will, as they were the only place still serving food. At least I won't be the "chicken patty lady show". The redemption comes in the shake. A good shake. Service 3 Stars: Service is hit or miss, these aren't career servers or chefs. They weren't always fast but they didn't seem annoyed by our existence & were even chipper with tourists "just looking". There's no nice way to put this, drive on by. It's so odd: the outside of this building stands out like a sore thumb in Historic Deadwood. The inside doesn't exactly feel appropriate for the town either but I didn't go into all the places, so I can't say for sure if it stands out? The service was fast and attentive. The food was ok. If I gave this a real review I would give it a 3.75 stars rather. I do recommend this place. Ordered my burger medium and came out well done. Fries tasted old as if they had been under the heat lamp for awhile. My drink was awful sent it back for water. When i got my water I went to take a drink and smelled so strong of bleach I couldn't drink it either. I was very disappointed this was on a Saturday afternoon about 3pm and not busy. A big dining space inside - great for watching sports as there are tons of TVs available for any angle! The service was decent - it wasn't very quick but the staff was friendly. My family and I got lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. It was quite empty on the streets of Deadwood but had a good amount of customers at Mustang Sally's. Some of my family members ordered the cheeseburgers. They enjoyed them. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich. It comes with similar toppings as a deluxe burger, so onion and lettuce for sure, which I packed on top of my chicken. The chicken was indeed crispy, which allowed it to stay intact between the buns between bites. he chicken itself was really flat as well. It was real chicken, rather than a patty, yet it was very thin, which allowed for so much crunch and crispiness (perhaps too much crispiness, so that you didn't get a taste of juicy chicken). The sandwich was lacking taste and flavor. It was SUPER crunchy and crispy. T Really missing seasoning, so I used a lot of mustard, ketchup, and mayonnaise to compensate. The fries were not bad and a good amount served with the burgers/chicken sandwich too. I've seen reviews on the wings. Maybe the wings are a go-to if you are to opt for chicken protein here. Both times the service was excellent ( Which is actually uncommon in Deadwood for some reason ) We had the crispy chicken sandwich, fish and chips and the wings ×2, all were very good.
