We initially were happy with the hotel, when we checked in we told the people at the front desk that my wife had serious asthma and allergies and requested a pet free room . We were informed that they actually did not have any pet-free rooms but were assured that by then putting us on the top floor we would be as far from any rooms that have had pets in them as possible. I was stunned to walk out of my room this morning and see a couple get off the elevator with an enormous dog! This is the off season and there is no way that this hotel is filled to anywhere near capacity , so why they would send someone with a pet up to the top floor is beyond me. Front Desk Service is very poor. Run of the mill, everyone gets a job if you stop in. Expectations are very low. Phone slamming, cussing, and rudeness is delivered on a platter. Management provides lip service essentially but lacks any follow through. Ensure you work with corporate, they will take care of you and you will be compensated for future stays! Rooms are filthy. After a day of travel, hop on into a tub full of soap scum and pubic hairs and nestle into a bed of wrinkled sheets and hair. You might get lucky enough for a pipe leaking. Don't worry, they don't care, they will tell you it's ok to let the water run all night, they don't mind water damage and mold. If you have allergies, this is definite place to book! Bring your epi pen, mold, mildew and pet hair everywhere! Roll-a-way beds are a think of the past, so don't waste your money. Uniquely this hotel accommodates 14 year old children with their own rooms. Be prepared, the charges are not offset and you will pay a premium for this through unauthorized charges to your credit card. If you're lucky enough in the evening you will be blessed with a camp fire on your down time! Make sure to bring your own s'mores fixings as they as are not included! read more

We stayed in the Deadwood Mountain Grand just after Christmas for a few nights. RESERVATIONS We booked a room for three adults (older child) through the Holiday Inn web site. The reservation stated "standard room", and upon arrival, we were put into a room with a single king-size bed. Huh? The front desk was able to fix this and moved us to a room with two queen-sized beds. THE HOTEL The room itself is small, but has a large shower and a good view of Deadwood. Dogs are allowed in the hotel, and we heard a little yapper a few times at the end of the hallway. The hotel has a small kids playroom, an exercise room, and a small indoor pool & hot tub. Two nice sitting areas are located near the front desk, with a couple of couches, a fireplace, two big screen TVs, and free coffee. I definitely got my money's worth of the coffee during our stay. Free wifi is also available. DINING We ate breakfast the first morning at the resort's restaurant, the Aught Six Grille, located near the casino. The food and service was really good, but our tab of $42 seemed a bit high for three people. $13 of the tab came from drinks. Save the $2.50 per cup and grab a free coffee in the hotel lobby. The second morning we grabbed a quick bite at the casino coffee bar for $17. I had a breakfast burrito and it tasted like it came from a gas station. The hotel is in a good location...just a block away from the Franklin and other casinos on Main Street. Although the hotel concierge recommended walking down to the Deadwood Social Club for dinner, we decided the menu wasn't kid-friendly enough and then walked across the street to the Buffalo Bodega. We drove to the Homestake Chop House in nearby Lead the next night. THE CASINO We skied at Terry Peak during the days, came back to change or dinner, and went to bed thereafter. We didn't spend a significant time in the casino part of the resort. Although we didn't have any big-name entertainment during our stay, the resort does have a schedule of big-name casino performers like Gallagher and Kenny Rogers who appear during the upcoming months. The morning of our check-out, I spent a little time in the casino. Most of the slot machines are penny slots, although the minimum penny amount varies. A good variety of machines are on the floor and some dollar slots are also available. I was able to get quite a bit of play time on the penny slots. I tried the tables next, but at first, only one table was open, with a single person playing $10 minimum blackjack. I waited a while and came back. Three card poker and Texas Hold 'em were available, at $5 minimum. Although the dealers were very helpful in helping me learn these games, my money went pretty fast on the tables. I wanted to try blackjack, but again, the only blackjack table available was the $10 minimum one. I was disappointed in this part of the casino. $2 minimum tables would have been perfect. To summarize our stay: book thru the front desk, walk across the street to eat and play tables elsewhere. This resort is a great place to relax, catch a show, and play some penny slots. read more

people were scared and voiced they'll "never return" i don't even know where to begin. we met with our family to go to larry the cable guy this is done in caps because this is how we all felt. capped out. . *no crowd structure no one knew where to go. there was confusion in everyone's eyes. *the sections were not marked properly. i got better exit instruction on my flight here to deadwood sd. and we all know your plane goes down there is no hope *there should have been more security. i think they tried but was not given the tools to be effective. *on the screen it stated what you could bring in but nobody was ever searched. i think it was there for legal reasons only. *we funneled our way to a very narrow escalator. this escalator stopped halfway down and then everybody crushed into one another to get onto the next escalator, that was around the corner. i felt like everybody was touching everyone and falling into each other. *people were very scared and upset with the venue and how things were not properly put together for their safety. *all you could hear was people apologizing feeling like they were in other people's personal space and touching people and places they didn't mean to just so that they could continue to stand. *i have shared a link of what it reminded me of. the movie on netflix bonfire of destiny. these are the events in history that changed our fire standards. i am not sure if this venue has had a"fire inspection" lately. the fire marshall should be rechecking the policies and creating a better escape policy for almost 2500.00 people in the upstairs venue. there should be a an exterior ramp out of the venue outside of the casino and hotel. not only now must we think of fire but also an idiot with a gun (a.r) this could of been something to put deadwood sd on the map for something horrible. https://www.netflix.com/us/title/80213020?s=a&trkid=13747225&t=cp&vlang=en&clip=81148012 read more

Meant for bottom feeders, not serious players. The restaurant is a solid 7 and the bar area has a great vibe with lots of big screen TVs, but the casino belongs in a gas station. Room was clean and quite comfortable, with plenty of electrical sockets conveniently placed. (The other stops on my Dakotas tour ... not so much!) HOWEVER - Internet speed dropped considerably at times when others were using it. ("Dropped" often meant, "you can go to the lavatory and MAYBE you'll have a response after you've washed your hands. Maybe.") I was getting up at 5am to get 60-90 minutes of uninterrupted decent service before the rest of the hotel guests were up and moving. (Non-scenic view out the window, BUT not an issue for me - I rarely book a room for the view!) read more

This rating is because of the parking and view. Like who wants to sit outside and look at the parking garage? Not me. The parking issue is because it's confusing since the signs say for guests and since it's a hotel, we assumed it was for them. We did park in the garage, but larger cars will have issues unless you are skinny. The meal itself was good, I had the walleye, but the rice was hard. The sauce and asparagus was good. The fish was plated hot, so it sweated and got a little soggy on the bottom. My husband liked his burger and fries. The building is under renovation and apparently the hotel was recently sold. Read my previous review. The concert was originally schedule for March 2020 but then they postponed it over and over and over, finally scheduling it for April of this year. Now they finally admitted it is cancelled and refunds are NOW available. I do not know if it is the Foreigner Band or the Hotel or Vivid Seats where I got the tickets but one of them have been screwing with us ticket holders for a year!! This has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I am not going to have anything to do with the Foreigner band, the Deadwood Grand or Vivid Seats again. read more

Had a wonderful weekend here for the Deadwood movie premiere. Guest services were impeccable, the room was awesome, great bed and pillows!!! Loved my view, and the french doors, allowing me to sit on the balcony of my room, taking in the fresh air and view of the black hills! Valet service to and from the Rapid City airport was perfecto! My plane was about 3 hours late, yet Chad from valet was there to greet me, and take me on a wonderful ride, great conversation, and good company after a long flying day. And Steve's ride back to Rapid City was equally enjoyable, taking a little side view off the main route to the airport - quite lovely!! And last but not least, the food was sooooo good at the hotel!!! I would stay at Mountain Grand again anytime!! read more

Saw the Bellamy Brothers. We paid top dollar for tickets. Our seats were faaaar left of the stage (facing). Section C, row C, seats 13,15,17,19. We had to turn our heads so much to see the guys, we ended up getting sore. Two of the group walked out early. Yes, we paid the same as the two sections IN FRONT of the stage. That's cheating.... us! Sound!? Lousy sound system. Our whole group couldn't hear the words clearly. It's unbelievable this hotel even offers such a poor venue for the artists who book here. The whole experience felt ridiculously cheap. SMH read more

We have been to several shows here and I think they do a great job with those. The restaurants and casino are unremarkable though. I don't know if it's just bad luck but I have never ever had luck in that casino. The hotel attached is a very nice Holiday Inn with great customer service and beautiful views. It's a little awkward getting to the hotel because you have to carry your luggage across the casino floor. It's a long ways from the parking lot to the hotel rooms so bring a wheely bag! read more

Deadwood Mountain Grand Casino We've been in the casino on several occasions. I am not sure exactly what the issue is but this place has bad Feng Shui, I have always felt very uncomfortable here. Maybe it's the decor (or lack thereof) or the chopped up little rooms ... but I've never wanted to spend much time here and I am betting I'm not the only one. They have the same games as everywhere else, the wait staff is nice enough. The machines pay or don't pay.. that's really not the issue. It's more like something that lacks definition or direction. I've been here several times but just recently happened to be passing through when they had REO Speedwagon playing. This place is great. Not only is the casino fun, the building's old school architecture fits right into the buildings you find scattered throughout hidden trails in the Black Hills. The entrance bridges over a small creek that first welcomes you as you enter the premises. If you are in the area I highly recommend you swinging in. Hopefully you can catch a concert as well. read more

I'd go 3.5 stars for this Deadwood, South Dakota hotel but 3.5 isn't an option so I'll bump it up to 4 stars (instead of 3) because the bellhop, Chad, did such an extraordinary job for me. The guy is an absolute asset to that hotel. Knowledgable, hardworking, and dependable. Every now and then an employee leaves such a strong impression that it leaves one with a much more favorable view of the hotel itself. Chad had that effect. The property was nice, the parking was easy, the room was nice . . . 3 stars across the board. The service, though, was 5 stars and that alone has me leaving a four-star review. Props. read more

I live in Nebraska and visit Deadwood many times each year. The Deadwood Mountain Grand was my go to casino due to employees that made each visit memorable. I visited last weekend and found that there were no familiar faces dealing cards. I asked and was told that the majority of the dealers were not brought back after the shutdown and of the very few that were brought back none remain. It didn't take long to find the old crew, most of them went to the Gold Dust on Main Street which is where I will be going on future visits. I was told the same thing by multiple people "the newly hired pit boss got rid of them to make room for her friends" An establishment that cares so little for their loyal long time employees will not get my business now or in the future. read more

We went around 4 on a Sunday when the bar wasn't busy. Sat down at the bar and was rushed to order drinks. I ordered a bloody Mary which was disgusting and we were given menus for food. We asked for recommendations on what was good and the bar tender was pushy getting us to order food and said everything was good. We ordered nachos and pizza and they were very disappointing​. The pizza was a frozen pizza and the nachos basically were a plate of chips with a little processed chicken pieces and burned cheese. I will not go back. read more

Stayed here for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this year. Very nice place to stay. Town is a great place to spend some time. During the rally, they BBQ on the deck outside with some live music. Great Buffalo burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches. Of course, you are going to pay $$$ more than usual because of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. People nice and friendly. read more

AWESOME.............Deadwood finally has a REAL Casino ans great music venue. The concert hall has a "barn" feel to it. With the rumors that there is a strong connection to Nashville, I'm sure they will have a surplus of great music on tap! Now there is one more thing that I must do when in Sturgis. This place is great! It is on the edge of downtown, do you can walk any where (downtown). The casino is nice, but there is no craps table. The cheapest blackjack table was 5 bucks so that was nice. The hotel staff was some of the nicest staff I had ever dealt with. They would ask to help and not wait to be asked. Parking took a minute to figure out, it is in the parking ramp on the side of the building starting on the second floor. There is a safe in the room and they allow dogs, as well! read more

Attended a family reunion a couple of weeks ago in Deadwood and the selected hotel was The Mountain Grand. We absolutely loved it! The service was fantastic and every night we were greeted by the valet saying "welcome home"...In just a couple of hours you feel as if you are home. The rooms are comfortable and clean! I had never been to South Dakota but I will tell you I am ready to go back (at least to Deadwood)! read more
