I've been here a couple of times in the past several months and I believe these folks have upped their game. Today's food was hot and tasty (the "huge" spicy chicken sandwich) and the service was excellent. Kendall was great, checking on me just often enough. And the manager, Lauren, came by a well and introduced herself. Even the hostess explained a couple of things when I was seated. Well! I'll start with our entrance. No hello or welcome. Just "three?" Yes is my response. Took us to our table, dropped off our menus and walked away. No other comments. Usually we will be told your "waiter" or "waitress" will be with you shortly. Now we wait.... Our waitress arrived, she seems pleasant. We shall see how the service continues through the meal. Meal was delivered in a reasonable amount of time by another person. He seemed friendly. Waitress did come back to check on our meals after we were about finished. Overall, food was excellent. The best word I would use to describe this location would be "mediocre." Nothing amazing, nothing terrible, just average. We came in around 12:30 PM on a Thursday, and it was pretty empty and quiet. We were instantly seated and our orders taken care of. I ordered the Shrimp 'N Parmesan Sirloin, with a Perfect Strawberry Margarita, which in hindsight, was far from perfect. The food came out pretty fast and our waiter was super nice. The steak itself was well-done, although I ordered for a medium, but the mashed potatoes and broccoli was delicious. Overall, the meal was decent! However, the margarita was lacking, and I did not enjoy it at all. I mean, it's alcohol at Applebee's so what did I expect? Maybe I was wishing for too much! All in all, with this being my first time at an Applebee's in over 10 years, I think I will take another decade break. Maybe a stop for lunch or something is okay, but the visit was average. This was the worst location I have visited. The food was not fresh and it was so stale. It was terrible. The tables and bathrooms were filthy. The water was dripping from the ceiling and the waitress said "yeah it's an old building". To top everything off, the place is infested with roaches. We saw a roach in the men's bathroom and under our table when we were done with our meal. We told the manager and she just said "ok thanks." Like WTH, really!! Overall, it was all a disaster. You guys need to read and listen to all the reviews. Keep driving and save yourself the time and money. read more

Waited an hour and all I got was my drink, older white woman server was pretty nasty as well.

Ordered online, "curbside-pickup" order. I ended up going inside to pick up. Food was flavorful, as far as the recipe goes. The ribs were NOT tender, however. The membrane (rib eaters know what I'm talkin about) had not been removed. There was no sauce on the side as my online order requested. The Southwestern steak salad was PUNY (see photo)...nothing like a dinner salad and I'm pretty sure nothing like what you'd get if you ordered & ate inside. Our work group went here on a Thursday night. We were promptly seated, and the server quickly took our orders. I ordered the Smokin' Double Steak & Egg (Two hand-cut 4 oz. USDA Choice top sirloins, fried egg, stout gravy, bacon jam - description from their website) from their "Chef's selection menu, and requested it be cooked medium. The two sirloins were not cooked the same. One was indeed medium, and the other was tough and medium well to well. Sides of mac n cheese and Crispy Cheddar Bacon Potatoes were good. My husband and I ate there yesterday for the first time. We were very pleased with everything about Applebees. Our food was very good, the place itself was very clean. Our waitress Tamera D. was very polite, came to our table often to check on us and was just very pleasant to talk to. We were passing thru from Durham to Pinetown and were a little concerned after reading the reviews but they proved the bad reviews to be wrong. This is not a good Applebee's. The service is trash and they are always understaffed. Sometimes it seems like the waiter isn't listening to your order. I placed a curbside to go order for the "FOUR CHEESE MAC & CHEESE WITH HONEY PEPPER CHICKEN TENDERS". I've ordered from here before. It's supposed to have bacon and a some bread with it and I got neither. I attached the picture below. Once again the waitress brings me a "duplicate" ticket so having this happened MANY times I take a side by side picture of my completed ticket with tip amount filled in as zero and the duplicate I was given I leave a cash tip... I check it against my bank statement and there is a $5.02 tip added AGAIN second time this has happened at this restaurant. This happens a lot in Wilson because most people don't check their receipts so they get by with it. But this is why I always check!!this Has happened to me twice this month! Unfortunately, this Applebee's needs some help. We've been in the past and had the expected experience for this type of business OK food. OK service. But recently, it has gone downhill. When we went for dinner tonight, it was not very busy. That appears to mean that the servers can have their own little party. They had set up a table in tha. Bar area and seemed to be having a very good time. Normally, this would not bother me. It was a slow night so why not? As long as you are taking care of business. But there's the problem. My family and the other customers appear to have interrupted the party with our business. Our waitress was nice enough but very slow to ate our orders and very anxious to get back to her friends. Don't do it, don't ignore the reviews as I did. Overall experience terrible from the food to the staff. Manager I will say was good trying to do something but my entire experience was terrible. I travel for work and Applebee's one of the places I go to all the time. But this night I had a terrible experience the take out. When I got there to pick up my order it was not right. I had ordered the shrimp and parm sirloin and ended up with a petite sirloin, the wrong steak instead of redoing the whole thing they redid the steak. All I know is the rest of my meal was stone cold and terrible in my steak was close to raw, I ordered medium. I think their servers need to be trained better to be more professional. I have worked in the restaurants in my younger years when you mess up in order to replace the whole thing not just the part that you messed up unless it can be done immediately. My order wasn't even close to being what I had ordered. I went back and doublecheck to make sure I didn't make a mistake, I did not make a mistake. I will never go to Applebee's again because of this experience. Take it from me go to Ruby Tuesday's whole different experience. I saw the bad reviews and like you I thought this is a franchise there's no way it could be that bad, it is that bad. This will be my last review ever of Applebee's/Wilson - still not great since my review of 2012 - now 2019, lunch dining area almost empty for a usually busy city week day. The food was mediocre - shrimp fajita maybe $3-$4 overpriced - however, service was good, we were lucky to get a decent waiter. As a whole the darkened restaurant was rather dirty, nothing wiped down much, one vacant table next to us had dirty dishes the whole time we were there for lunch and then that pile got moved to the bar for who knows how long, tables were sticky, etc. Applebee's/Wilson just plain sucks -too bad for the employees who probably need the job. read more

This Applebees location is a place my wife and I wanted to like, but have long since given up on. The problem is the food, it's never good. Hot chicken bites are never coated properly, and the steaks are of poor quality. My wife once ordered a salad that was so bad the leaves were turning translucent and slimy. We don't normally return food but we made an exception. The replacement salad looked better than the one on the menu - it's not that they can't do better, they just don't want to. Out of probably ten visits between 2008 - 2010 it got worst and worst to the point we just don't go back. I'm convinced the problem is the management. It's not that they don't have the means to be a great restaraunt; they simply choose not to be. read more
