We had to board our doggie for a night since we were going to the Oregon Caves and no dogs allowed. Since Yelp and Google are fantastic resources, I found this place by pure luck. I was really pleased at the location-kind of out in the country and nice and quiet. There was a main house (where I assume the owners live) and then the kennel (they do grooming here as well). We have boarded our dog now a few times at Breton's and our vet, and never has he been taken care of as well as he was here. I was also amazed at the price. $18.00 a night. Very different from the $26-$32 we are charged at home. This place also has huge suites for the pets and though he was whiny when we left him, he wasn't extra whiny or sheddy or jumping to leave like other times. This is really telling and I wish this place were closer to home. I would recommend using them for sure! read more

We boarded our dog last minute over a weekend. They were very nice, I feel as though they didn't mistreat my dog. This my was my first time boarding him, so he was weird about being away from us, but he was happy. The only reason I gave it a four was because they didn't ever respond to my email. That is irritating. I will probably use them again if I have to, but would still try to find something a little more personal (my old dog had the best boarder in CA). read more

Our dog stayed one night. Of course, we could not speak to our dog to find out for sure, but he was very thirsty. So we can only assume that NO water was provided. He drank water over and over for several hours after we picked him up from Applegate (we only gave him about 8oz at a time, as it is not good to have too much water too quickly). He also was very hungry, after he had enough water. Net result is that we believe he went for about 24 hours without food or water. Board at your pets risk. read more

This is the first time we had to leave our Yona. The ladies were really nice and helped me through the process. When we dropped him off our hearts were broken we felt so bad. When we were getting off the plane we got a text with a picture he was doing good was not stressed. Our spirits lifted and We did not have to call them every day to check on him . We got texts and pictures of him every day that he was happy and playing it made our vacation they took extremely good care of him. I highly recommend them! read more

Reviews sounded good but my experience was terrible. I had to board my dog for one night. Was told kennels were open until 6 pm for pickup. When I made the reservation I asked whether they would be able to accommodate pickup if I called to say I was running late (after 6 pm) and was assured they would be able to accommodate me. Left food with written instructions on the bag: 1/2 for pm and 1/2 for am. Well, I dropped Buddy off around 11 am Thursday and arrived (earlier than anticipated) at 4 pm on Friday. The place was closed and dark although the sign stated open until six. I worked my way around back and the kennel doors were open to the outside (good) but no answer at the door to retrieve Buddy. I tried ringing the owner's home doorbell. No response. I hung around for more than 1/2 hour thinking someone would show up. Finally someone came at 4:45. I got charged for 2 days when the woman I spoke to when reserving the spot told me that as long as I showed up the next day before closing, it would be a one-day charge. The girl who showed up at 4:45 Friday charged me for 2 days, and refused to compromise the charge even though no one was there to release my dog when I arrived and she had no knowledge of the one-day charge I had been told about when I reserved the spot. She then handed me back at least half the food I'd left. I asked if anyone could read, since I specifically put instructions on the bag of food for 1/2 to be given pm (Thursday night) and the remaining 1/2 to be given am (Friday morning) and therefore I should not be getting any food back. She really had no answers about anything. Buddy was very hungry and very thirsty. She said the owners were on vacation so I couldn't even bring my complaint to anyone with any authority to resolve it. It was clear that no one had paid any attention to him that day although she said someone had been there "in the morning." This is a truly bad place to leave your dog. I will never ever trust my Buddy with these people again. I felt guilty enough having to board him and this experience has taught me that nearly any other alternative would be better. I've boarded my 2 dogs here twice now. I live nearby and I love the country setting. All of the people I've talked with at Applegate are sweet and kind. They definitely seem to understand dogs and care for them a lot. The kennels are kept immaculately clean and my dogs come home smelling like they are kept very clean which is better that almost any other kennel I've ever used. There are inside kennel rooms that are air conditioned as needed, with a door to the outside kennels where the dogs can go as they please, though the dogs are all shut in safely at night. There is a large secure outside play yard for them if you pay for play time. They get walked twice a day and fed as many times as you are willing to pay....with extra-special care for older dogs. Applegate is not too large, so I feel that each dog gets plenty of attention. My dogs always seem very happy to see me when I come back, but they are not frantic or stressed. The second time I boarded them, my dogs had no problems walking right into the kennel. That says a lot. They obviously were fine with staying there and did not turn tail and try to run for the door. Applegate is not inexpensive, but quite honestly, I am willing to pay a few extra bucks to know that my dogs are having a nice vacation and under the best care. After 2 stays, I know that I don't have to have any nagging worries about them or feel like I've abandoned my babies. They are absolutely doing fine and they are getting lots of love, care, and attention. I will be using them again I'm sure and you'll love them, too. read more
