Okay, full disclosure up front: this is my family farm. I grew up here. My parents live here and…read morerun it, and sell these products. Consider yourself warned. That being said, one of the things they produce on the farm is maple syrup. In the spring, usually in March and April (but it varies with the weather), they produce and sell all sorts of maple products from a roadside shop. It's in the middle of nowhere but there is a sign at the end of the lane, and the maple shop is right by the road. You can get a tour and see how it's made, and then buy to your heart's conent. Maple syrup in glass, plastic, or tins, from 125ml right up to 4 liter sizes. And, being the home of maple, you can get it in other forms you don't get outside eastern Canada and New England: maple cream (like fudge) in many shapes, maple butter (spreadable on toast), and granulated maple sugar. One of the best things on earth. And you won't get it cheaper - or better - than here.

This quaint little shop features truffles, sodas, local cheese and what appeared to be their most popular item (chocolate covered potato chips). I'm a sucker for chocolate covered potato chips- preferably dark chocolate. These were milk chocolate but still tasty. The space was busy and a little outdated in its appearances. Tucked into the neighbourhood beside Victoria Park, this place is a gem filling in the gaps from the chain grocery stores more north and offering some fresh local and both domestic and imported artisan goods. The owners are just the most friendly and sweetest people bringing a very homey and loving vibe to all the products. So much middle eastern selection too! Fine oils and spices, eastern baked treats, and a ton of dried goods like beans and rice. They have a great selection of island produce and meats/dairy coming straight from the farms into the coolers. The freezer also features some of their own falafel or local made meal items. The aged Island cheeses and dips are fantastic too. Something real special here is the small selection of baked goods from Montreal including Fairmont Bagels!!!! She has a menu but is always willing to work "off" menu. She was more than happy to accommodate my daughter's 10 year old desires. The breakfasts are hearty and filling. I typically don't love home fries but Mary's were great. She didn't overload the plate with them like many other restaurants.Perfect proportions which makes a great change from excessive, wasteful portions so many places now offer. Quality over quantity was my experience here. There are games for rainy days and Mary doesn't mind some lounging. It is clear Mary works hard and loves satisfying her customers. Her wildflower garden, commitment to organic products that encourage ethical choices around insects (bees, for example) are some extra bonuses. Highly recommended. When we returned back to the B & B after a terrible dinner, she brought us fresh vegetables, humus, guacamole and drinks. So kind!
