With water streaming across our kitchen wood floor from our Kitchen Aide dishwasher, I immediately looked up appliance repair. There would be a week wait at Sears. I called some others but they were closed (8:00 p.m.) By luck I reached Larry at Appliance Express in Minneapolis. The machine isn't old but still I expected a hefty bill. Just in general it seems hard to find honest, caring and helpful people. He asked a few questions about the water and suds So then Larry says, "We don't repair dishwashers. But I recommend you run it empty and without any soap. It probably was caused by too much soap." I would have been thinking "Sure, yeah, right" with sarcasm. But Larry is just a sincere man. I will certainly easily recommend him to anyone in need of a truly competent repair. The paper towel didn't have a drop of water on it. But I believed that would be the result after talking to Larry. My dryer broke yesterday, and we called these guys this morning. It started out awesome, we were able to get a same day appointment, just a couple hours after we called! Then, when they got to my house and knocked on my door, my dog barked. (It was put away in its kennel, on the opposite side of the room from my door. Sorry, but dogs still are going to bark when it hears the door.) He heard the dog bark, saw the sign, and didn't even wait for us to open the door before he left. My husband called, and he flat out stated that he was afraid of dogs, and would not come into the house. There is a 0% chance of you coming into contact with my dog, because I am aware of the fact that not everyone likes dogs. I don't care if you are afraid of dogs, or certain breeds of dogs. That is really poor customer service! Especially when my dog is put away, 50 feet from the door, with a baby gate and a kennel between you and the dog. Also, considering the dryer in question is one floor down and on the other side of the house from the dog. Do you refuse service to everyone who's dog barks at the door? read more

I'll be calling these guys again, next time I need appliance service. I called regarding our Whirlpool Duet washing machine, a machine I have been cursing, kicking and yelling at from the day we got it, due to a very (I thought) finicky electronic brain. About 50% of the time, during a wash cycle it would quit working, start beeping and not do anything else until it had been unplugged and restarted. Then, 95% of the time, it would finish its cycle normally. This machine was the result of the last Whirlpool we bought, which never worked right either, and 5 service calls later, over a period of 6 months, it was finally replaced with the current machine, so I was already not a fan of Whirlpool. The other day, it stopped working altogether, and would not ever complete a cycle, beeping and giving an error code. I bit the bullet and called Appliance Express. Whoever I talked to on the phone said to simply replace the old water intake hoses, as that was almost certainly the issue, rather than having him come out and charge us to do the same thing. A trip to Menard's and $14 later, the machine works like brand new. I now owe my washing machine a big apology, and Appliance Express a big Thank You! Ice maker went bad on my Sears Kenmore refrigerator. Must have seen my new Toyota Camry XLE in the driveway. Charged me $448 to replace the ice maker. Even Sears would have charged considerably less than Larry. This guy is a ripoff. STAY AWAY! read more

Larry came to my daughter's house to repair a refrigerator that wasn't cooling to temp. Came on time was there approx 30-40 min max. Said I needed to replace defrost thermostat and defrost control at the price of $408.00. Never questioned the price just paid him. After returning home 8 pm and checking the temp, it still was not to temp and now the freezer was also not working, losing all the food. Began caling/texting all numbers including the emergency line, no answer. Larry finally returned a call at 945 pm said give it to the am and let him know. At 650 am I texted saying still not working. He called at 7 am said he would shower and be over at no charge. 10 minutes later he called saying he wasn't happy with my survey response which he asked me to fill out. He said he would not be coming, I told him I would notify CC company and BBB. He said good luck I'd have to prove it! Really my refrigerator is still not working... he then texted me to make sure I read the response on his website. This is where I read the most VIAL, UNPROFESSIONAL, slanderous post I've ever seen. I have an adult disabled daughter with TBI, which I've taken care of for 13 years (I live in MN partime), her dog is a medical service dog and for this Man to personally attack my family is horrific! I never talked to him in a angry manner and would never talk about my children in such a way. We live in MN, pay taxes, purchased a home and carry insurance in both CA and MN. The fact of the matter is Larry was paid for a service in which he diagnosed, the service never repaired the refrigerator and now he wants to bad mouth and slander innocent people for his poor service. If I had read his own reviews prior, there are multiple poor reviews, he calls them all lies and has an excuse for everything. He sits with $408.00 of my hard earned money, refuses to fix what he was paid to do! This man and his company should be criminally charged, he is a crook! Don't waste your time - he doesn't want your business. Larry didn't bother to cancel the appointment, but when I called at 3 pm (for an appointment between 3 and 4) he told me there was no way he was going to deal with the rush-hour traffic near my home. What? YOUR PEOPLE booked the appointment, not me. He also advised me that he wasn't interested in rescheduling. I cannot thank Larry with Appliance Express enough for the outstanding job he did removing the dead chipmunk from my dryer and fixing the dryer vent which another company had left unattached, creating a serious fire hazard. When I called, he was able to fit me in almost immediately, was professional and helpful, and went above and beyond the typical repair job in cleaning up a horrible mess. "Larry" requested text pictures of my refrigerator issues prior to coming onsite. I provided the pictures, model and make #s, and etc. He checked one website and determined that parts were not available, showed up and crammed the icemaker swingarm back into place then suggested fixes that I could make for the rest of the problems. $134 for less than 15 minutes of work - and my icemaker never worked again. When I called to complain, he used foul language and told me to "stop pay the check" - when I tried to do it, I found that he'd cashed the check moments after leaving my house the day before. CROOKS. I have never before written a negative review, but I wanted others to be aware of the service I received from Larry (or Lawrence) from Appliance Express (his website is minneapolisstpaulrepairservice.com). My Frigidaire front-loading washer was not draining, so I called AE. Larry explained when I made the appointment that there was a $69 call-out fee to cover coming out and diagnosing the problem. Fair enough; I had no problem with that. He arrived later in the day at the appointed time, inspected the outside of the washer, and said he thought the pump was plugged. He also said that if the pump wasn't simply plugged, (a repair that he said would "cost about $120"), but rather, if the pump was failing and needed to be replaced, the bill be around $280. He also said that because my washer was on a pedestal, he wouldn't be able to move it around. I told him to go ahead and do what needs to be done to get it working and I would be upstairs in the kitchen. Less than an hour later, Larry came up to the kitchen and advised me that the washer was running fine. We went down to see the clump of cloth bits that were plugging pump. Great! My washer was working! When we returned to the kitchen, I gave him my credit card and swiped it...for $283, and then, after he swiped my card, he presented me with a form which he said needed my signature. I signed, not thinking much of it. After I paid, and we were walking to the door as he was leaving, I said, "So you put a new pump in it?" He replied, "No, but it was hard to clean the pump out" and promptly left. I was kind of stunned. When my husband came home, he looked at the form that I'd signed - it was an estimate that indicated the pump was plugged and the cost for the repair was $219 for the repair + $69 call out fee + taxes. It should have been presented to me before doing the work, but Larry had me sign it after I'd paid. I felt horribly tricked and swindled. Since when are repairmen paid according to how hard a job is rather than how long it takes? He was here for one hour, the repair did not require parts, and he charged $283...for an hour of work that probably involved a snake as he didn't move the washer. Oh, I also asked him before he began working if the water level could be adjusted as my washer fills with only one gallon of water. He said it's not possible to adjust water levels on front loading washers. A quick google search seems to contradict him. In summary, is he friendly? Yes. Does he show up when he says? Yes. Just be very, very careful about getting a written DETAILED estimate that includes parts and labor BEFORE you let him begin work. Or, find a repairman that does so without prompting, which is what I will be doing next time. read more
