I called Asko and was referred to Appliances R Russ along with a couple of other repair shops who will remain nameless. I am VERY skeptical of repair shops because I am always afraid I'll get ripped off. Key points: 1) I compared pricing and protocol between 3 places and hands down, Appliances R Russ were the least expensive and the fairest. This made me a little nervous because you always hear "you get what you pay for". NOT the case here! 2) I spoke with Leslie and she was very helpful and flexible with the scheduling. She gave me a 3 hour window but said that if I needed sooner or later in the window she'd try to arrange it. She also said to feel free to call within the window to find out how much longer of a wait until the repairman arrived. I didn't do this, but it was a nice offer. 3) Russ himself showed up with Nick, a repairman in training (I think). They were both polite and ready to get down to business. As Russ was checking different parts of the machine he was explaining what each part was and what he was doing and why. I'm wondering if this was for the trainee's benefit, but it was still interesting and I was able to ask some questions myself. He was able to find the errant item in about 20 minutes without having to fully dissemble the machine, which was my big fear. He also gave me a brief tutorial on how to care for and troubleshoot the machines myself (basic things that I'm sure came in the manual, but who really reads those anyway?) 4) The price was exactly what he said it would be! No hidden fees, extra "but I had to take this apart" fees, etc. I was wary when I was told this on the phone since the other shops said it "started" at the price they quoted but made it very clear they can't give a firm price till they see what he issue is...even though I said what the issue was. I know that I dropped something into the detergent compartment/hose! Why do you still have to figure out what the issue is? Russ charged exactly what I was quoted and not a penny more. It was a great experience that restored my faith in repairmen. 100% I will be calling Appliances R Russ for all of our appliances in the future. Keep up the good work, Russ! read more

I've used Appliances R Russ twice in the past year and was pleased both times. The most recent was today. My Asko washing machine shut off mid-cycle and wouldn't turn back on. My husband figured out that the problem was the internal fuse. We could have ordered the part ourselves online but it was on backorder and we're expecting the birth of our second child any day, so we didn't want to have to wait a few weeks for a part to arrive. Plus, we weren't sure that was the only issue with the machine. I called Appliances R Russ and got their voice mail. I left a message and was called back within 10 minutes. The office manager was out sick so Russ called me directly to let me know that he got my message and would call me back later in the evening to talk about the details and make an appointment if necessary. He called me back like he said he would and I explained the problem and the parts we needed. He said that he had everything on-hand and could come the next day. He charges $80 for an in-home visit if you have him come to do an assessment but not do any repairs. If he does repairs, the $80 fee is waived. I made the appointment for between 10am and 2pm. He arrived just before noon. Like other reviews mention, he wiped his shoes on the mat before coming in and shook my hand when he introduced himself. He was very nice and professional. I showed him to the washing machine and again explained what we thought was the problem. He took a look and agreed with our assessment. He put in the new part and sure enough the machine was working again. I was relieved that the problem wasn't anything more and that he was able to fix it so quickly. He accepts credit cards which is also very convenient and gave me a receipt on the spot. I definitely recommend using Appliances R Russ and I will definitely call them again if any more appliance issues occur in my home. Thanks, Russ! read more

After using this company several times in the past and being somewhat satisfied, we were really disappointed with the lack of professional service and customer service this time around. They gave us the run around on the timing of ordering parts and availability that resulted in weeks of delayed appointments. One of the things they did fix (after several weeks of waiting for the part) broke again 1 week later. When told about this they were scheduled to come back the next week to fix it again and bring another part for another appliance. On the day of the scheduled appointment the 4 hour time slot came and went and no one came or called. When I called to check in the extremely rude and unprofessional woman on the phone informed me that they were not coming because the part did not arrive. When I explained that the appointment was also to fix the part that had broken again she told me that they were not going to come back more than once as it was a waste of time and that I would have to wait until the other part came in for an appointment. No one called me to tell me the part did not come ahead of time or that they were not coming and on top of that I found it dumbfounding that after something they repaired broke that they wouldn't come running to try and fix it as it was their mistake. Both my husband and I tried to speak directly to Russ, the owner, and he flat out ignored our calls. His assistants tried to read us his text messages over the phone! I really have not encountered this kind of unprofessionalism in many years. In the end, instead of trying to make up for this blunder and save face, they chose to refund the money we had paid for the bad repair. read more

Wow, Appliances "R" Russ to the rescue. I awoke with my Sub Zero freezer drawer frozen shut. After multiple awful experiences in the past with other repair services recommended by neighbors (where I felt I had been overcharged or just treated rudely) I was loath to go down that road again. A friend recommended Russ after several positive experiences. I figured I'd give it a shot. I called at 11 and left a message. Within 15 minutes he called back and told me he would be there that afternoon between 2 and 5 and that he would call about an hour in advance of his arrival. When I hadn't heard from him by 4 I texted him and he replied instantly that he had one more stop before me. Half an hour later he texted to say he would be there in 10 minutes. Indeed he was. Russ was awesome - super nice and professional. He knew exactly what the problem was, explained it to me, fixed it, informed me that I needed no parts so the charge was for his labor only, and then proceeded to give me the most fair and reasonable bill I have ever received from a repair service. He promised to come back at no charge if the problem returned in the next month, and to apply the amount already paid in the event more extensive work with new parts was required (which he didn't anticipate). What I thought would be a very expensive and frustrating ordeal turned out to be a virtual nothing and now I know I have a repair service I can count on whenever I need one. So the owner Russ was called in -- who happened to be close by finishing up another job. Fixed/completed and back to working condition. They were quick and efficient. It was clear that I never could have done the repair myself, and in fact I needed to replace a part, which Russ had in his truck. It took a little over an hour to do the job and he even cleaned the floor under the machine. When he says his rates are fair, he's right. He quickly diagnosed the dryer problem as a broken pump, but went one step further and did a test to prove that was the issue. He had the part with him. Reviewed pricing with me (ugh. $325 for parts and labor), and asked for my sign off before proceeding. Voila! Fixed in 20 minutes! Joe told me his work and the part have a 90 day guarantee on them, gave me a business card and receipt on the spot. Very professional. The only downside is the price....but I guess it is good for NYC. Will be the first call I make if another appliance needs repair in our condo. read more

My Viking range failed to heat properly, and I'm very glad that I called Appliances R Russ to help me out. The technician they sent to visit me was on time, diagnosed the problem very quickly, and provided extremely polite and efficient service. Payment was easy and the price was right in line with what I expected. I also had another issue because my range is very finicky, and Russ himself contacted me and provided very friendly and patient follow-up service to me. Russ is running a family business and operates honestly and in a straightforward manner. I agree with all of the positive reviews on here and respectfully disagree with the negative one. It's never pleasant when an appliance breaks, but thankfully there are folks out there like Appliances R Russ who will do their best to get whatever is broken running again. Appliances R Russ was able to repair my Wolf oven when no one else could figure out the problem. I thought the oven was a lemon but Appliances R Russ fixed it. Subsequent to that, I have called on them to repair my other major appliances that needed repair such as my dryer and my refrigerator.
