Timothy is a GIA certified appraiser so I knew his knowledge and appraisal insights would be up to the GIA's rigorous standards. Timothy spent a good deal of time looking at the ring through his microscope, studying it's characteristics and taking notes and photographs of the details of the ring. He researched similar pieces online and concluded that I received a very good deal from the jeweler I purchased the ring from. Timothy's appraisal gave me the peice of mind that the ring was within a few hundred dollars of what the jeweler claimed the replacement value would be. The time Timothy spent with me, viewing the ring and researching it was well worth the appraisal fee which I thought was fair to begin with. Why 4 stars? Because I had a much better experience on my return trips…read more --- --- --- I wanted to update my initial experience when I ran into a person who was very pushy and sales-y. I wrote my review, heard back from the owner, and his efforts came across as sincere. On my return trips to CWD, I did not see the initial salesperson once, so I'm not sure if she is still working there. Of course, I never wish for someone to lose their job, but I also don't think it's right to push a client into making high-dollar purchases, when that client obviously knows nothing about jewelry. Yes, that someone is me and about 99% of people like me. That being said, all of my follow-up visits were a 180 degree opposite experience. No salesyness. No uncomfortable moments. Everyone was really great and made us feel at home. We purchased our wedding bands and felt very good about everything. So why not 5 stars? The jewelry industry as a whole is not for the faint of heart. The mark-up percentages are out of this world. And that's not a knock on CWD, it's just a word of advice to any of you guys out there who have yet to pop the question. Come well-researched, and try to make sure you only had to pop said question, once. I like their boutique store which is very quaint and relaxing even though they are located in the ground floor of an office building on Westshore Blvd across from Ruth Chris steak house, it is easy to get to and worth the trip. I have also seen them and their staff of workers interface with customers as they call or walk in and was duly impressed with the care and attention given to each and every person. We really like the fact that Continental Wholesale Diamonds creates and designs diamonds and sells direct obviating the middleman which of course becomes more expensive. Their experience level is second to none since Andrew's family goes 100 years back in the diamond business through a few generations. There was a neat interview that we noticed on ABC Action where they interviewed Andrew in a very informative interview about diamonds and specifically Continental's niche and approach to dealing with this marketplace. Customer service!…read more I've had pleasant experiences before here so I'm giving two stars. Today I went in to buy a chain and a gold bracelet and had a terrible experience. A disheveled young girl was assisting and had a nasty attitude. I asked for pricing and she gave me a higher price than the previous day. I said no thank you, I'll come back another day. She called for some young guy to ask about prices and he gave an even higher number per gram, showing inconsistent prices based on the employee you ask. My mother asked how the diamonds work and the young woman said I'm not getting into that because he just denied me. So I said "you can't answer her question because I didn't buy from you? What's your problem, what are you giving attitude for? She responded are you serious right now and then asked to get some boy out who came from behind the counter, not to de- escalate or actually give some customer service but to ask us to leave. He's apparently the owners son and couldn't provide any service or consistent pricing. If you see an older white gentleman or an older guy with jet black hair, buy. If you see children who look like they have trouble speaking to people, leave! Very disappointed considering I was going to spend 2500 on a silver chain and a gold bracelet. Wish I bought it yesterday but now I doubt I would be back again. Lost a repeat customer today.
