Went to a class at the Dunedin Art Center. It was so fun and I learned a lot more than I did.

Apparently many moons ago, this guy decided to randomly paint a sun-kissed orange on a building in…read moredowntown Dunedin. Everyone wanted to know who did it, and as the mystery grew, the local papers got in on the action demanding the mystery muralist make himself known. Soon after, businesses along Main Street began putting signs up that read, "put an orange here!" And that's how the story of the seemingly random oranges around Dunedin began. We just moved here about a month ago, and one of the first questions I had was, "What is the freaking deal with the oranges? Is one person responsible or are there just a lot of talented artists living here? Can I get one? How much are they? Who do I call?" So many questions! In my neighborhood, I noticed some folks had the same orange on signs in their yards. I didn't know what they represented, so I started sniffing around on the NextDoor app, where I got the answers to all my questions. The man behind the oranges is Steven Spathelf, a local painter, artist and muralist. I immediately looked him up on FB, sent him a message and a few weeks later--BOOM. I've got my very own orange, which happens to be the 379th in the city. Steven is super laid back, and easy to work with. Will work around your schedule and do any size job, no matter how ambitious it is. His portfolio is crazy, and goes far beyond the simple oranges he splatters all over the city. Beach scenes, palm trees, rustic countrysides, whales, dolphins, automobiles, you freaking name it. For some examples: http://spatssplats.com/gallery.php My cuz lives over in Safety Harbor, where the Spanish introduced grapefruits to the state of Florida. After he saw my orange, he is seriously considering having a grapefruit put somewhere on his house.
