If you are looking for lack of responses and poor customer service - this is your place. Brett Moore of Appreciation Funding has been our contact, but he is sorely lacking in those areas.
He set up a meeting with me and after I drove to his office, he was not there. His assistant called him on his cell and he said that he "forgot" about the appointment. I drove back there again a few days later and he was about 40 minutes late. My wife and I set up an appointment with one afternoon at about 5:00 pm, and at 4:45 he emailed us that he was "too tired" to make it.
I invested my entire retirement fund in an annuity with him because my wife, a retired teacher, said that he was recommended by other teachers. I am not a retired teacher although I am retired. Now, he rarely gives me (in writing) my interest rates on anything. The annuity is with National Life Group, which gives very poor statements. There is a very heavy penalty for me to just withdraw my funds.
When I email him, it might take him weeks to respond, if at all. If and when he does, he rarely addresses precisely the questions I have asked. The few times I have received anything in writing, it has been literally scribbled on a piece of paper. One time, he used the little bedside notepad from the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel.
Last year he "forgot" about my IRA Required Minimum Draw (RMD) that I had to take from my annuity/IRA the year I turned 70 1/2. Had my accountant not caught it, the IRS penalty for not taking it would have been 50% of my withdrawal.
This year, 2018, he has been evasive about how to take my RMD after my November birthday, but before 12-31-18 deadline, or I will be charged another 50% penalty. Or, setting up my lifetime annuity beginning next year. National Life sent me a very complicated form, which did not seem to address my wishes. I emailed it to Brett months ago, and once again he has not addressed it given me advice on how to properly fill it out.
He makes me feel very uncomfortable about how he is handling my retirement funds and should you have the misfortune to use him or his firm too, you will see what I mean.
In summary, there are lots of great financial consultants/advisors out there - this is not one of them. I am in the process of changing agents. In my opinion, he, and his firm are very unprofessional and unresponsive. I would advise staying as far away as possible. read more
