I've been climbing for a year here and I've learned so much and made new friends with others/ staff. Never trade for another gym

Approach is a great climbing gym given the lack of sport climbing options in the Omaha area! Although I don't live here, I do come often enough that it's a relief knowing they change their routes (by wall sections) regularly. They offer auto belay and top rope options--they do have bolts for leading too (short, 3-bolt routes). Additionally, they also have an area dedicated to just bouldering. The staff are always friendly and helpful. You'll occasionally see the owner with her dogs, too! Pricing is very reasonable and on par with most climbing gyms. If you plan on coming in during the week, pre book your climbing session online for a really great discount! Also, they do offer rental gear if you need it--shoes, harness, and chalk are all available. And you can also buy some gear if you're ready to commit. The only reason why I'm rating them 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because a lot of their intermediate and higher routes are reachy and there's not a short-person beta built into them. Even with this though, they are still the best public climbing gym in the Omaha/Lincoln metros! read more

We had a good experience today checking out this climbing gym with our toddler. There is a separate kids room which is an awesome well thought out separate space for kids to explore with a slide, swing, some climbing walls and soft mats. It is probably more suited for kids aged five and up but my two year old (and 10 month old) were still happy to explore. The gym has a nice energy with vending machines with healthy snacks and people of all ages climbing. They offer punch cards for kids and trying out the gym is very reasonable (was $7 for us today). We will definitely add it to our rotation of cold weather Omaha activities for active kids! It is also nearby a few good Asian restaurants (Dumpling Empire and Korea Gardens). read more

My son and I visited here for a first time orientation, and he had a blast. The coaches are very friendly and approachable, and really enjoy what they do from what I could tell. The gym offers a variety of climbing surfaces, including those with harnesses, those without, and a kid's room. All first time visitors are required to take orientation which is $33 for 3 hours, and after that there is open climbing and memberships available. The first section is a variety of walls with holds of varying difficulties, then there's also a section with a variety of surfaces that you would use without the harness. I'm including pictures of both. My son, who is 8, spent most of his time in the kids room and then in the first area using the harness. He'd never done rock climbing before but said he enjoyed it after visiting here and wants to come back. Overall, this seems like a good place to pick up a new hobby! read more

Best climbing gym in the ralston/omaha area hands down, awesome staff that wanna see you progress and get better. They also give amazing advice. I've had to pause my membership for a deployment before and it was hassle free and super easy. The Membership comes with a ton of perks as far as equipment and guests go! Approach is a neat little climbing gym with great sets in the middle of nowhere. It's small, but they manage to pack good problems in. Their top-roping area is pretty sad though, and they should honestly just rip it out and make it a bouldering only gym. That space would be so much better utilized. read more

I've climbed at a lot of indoor gyms and have never had to pay for the orientation. it was an extra $3 and all I did was use the boulder wall. the routes were really uninspiring (same hand holds from top to bottom of any route) and the only thing separating V6 from a V3 is the addition of a dyno. super disappointing, given how many route setting resources there are online. read more

Overall the gym is not very big, but it offers a variety of activities. Belaying room, bouldering room, weight room, children's room, and miscellaneous strength training items scattered throughout the gym. The employees are responsible and helpful. Check certain days of the week for specials: Wednesdays are discounted for students and Thursdays are discounted significantly for ladies. Everything is available to be rented from harnesses to shoes and chalk bags. I got in a great workout and had fun- I'll be back! read more

Safe, great staff and lots of room and climbing lanes. Never been before and was amazed how patient staff was with orientation, especially with our six year old boy. I loved climbing here and think that a lot of climbing gyms can take some pointers from here!! I absolutely love how challenging and technical the routes are set here. Even though the walls are pretty short, I still found myself out of breath and sweating because the routes were so interesting. I was being pushed to think about my body placement in ways that I'd never really though about before. Overall a very clean facility wit very fresh routes. Great staff too!! read more

I've been a member of this gym for 6 months now and have truly loved it. We started on a single day pass with my son for an "adventure day" and ended up getting the whole family signed up. The staff make you feel like family and are so helpful and kind. There is a certain camaraderie among all that go here and it is very family friendly. I highly recommend membership and all the great benefits it gives. I have started going every Friday morning alone after I drop off the kids and come once a week with the whole family. I would recommend this for so many ideas such as dates, exciting new adventures for kids or just a great workout. Prices are great, facilities are safe and clean, and equipment is great. Plus you can't beat the random mix of great music exciting the eardrums. read more

Given the flat terrain of Nebraska, having a climbing gym is extremely welcome. I bought a class pack over a year ago and have slowly been chipping through. I'm a beginner and primarily use the autobelay sections and can get a pretty good workout in. It only took a few visits to start realizing how to shift my weight/grip and climb more efficiently. The people that do the bouldering room are very impressive but I don't think that's for me! I bought my own equipment but I believe they do have rentals if you need them read more

Pretty sweet climbing gym, great bouldering area especially the cave part. The bouldering area has a good amount of slopers, crimps, etc and grades ranging from v0-v10. The top rope area is also pretty nice has a good amount of 5.10's, although would like to see more 5.10/5.11's in the auto-belay part. The route setters definitely put in a decent amount of time and effort into making the routes flow well and rated accurately. Staff are awesome, and super nice. This gym also carries a nice selection of baked goods, definitely recommend their jam bars and calzones (courtesy of Bliss Bakery). read more

If you are an avid gym-climber, this place is very different from your typical gym and PLEASE READ THIS before you assume this is a typical climbing gym like I did. Walked in, checked in and waited for our orientation to start. Waited around 45 min to actually climb due to the incredibly long orientation where they make you boulder for a bit before you can do any top-rope climbing. Then, when I and two others inquired about getting belay-certified to top rope climb, we waited while the staff showed others in the orientation how to use the auto-belays for a ridiculously long time. Our test out took maybe 5 min at most. The staff member giving the bouldering orientation singled out the new climber in the group, which my climbing partner and I both agreed makes for an uncomfortable first climbing gym experience. Don't expect to get in a climb quickly if it's your first time at this gym or don't have a lot of time to climb. I personally saw multiple people in the space belaying unsafely, but never saw the staff say anything to any of them. At one point, a staff member asked me if he could show someone how to use the auto-belay next to me while I was belaying my climber whose route overlapped with the auto-belay. I told him I think he should wait until my climber was off the route, and the staff member pushed back. I wasn't about to have an accident happen so I stood my ground. The staff did not understand basic climber safety in this scenario which is concerning. Any number of things could have happened such as my climber falling or the person the staff was training letting go of the auto-belay and swinging up to hit my climber. Yikes all around. Routes are awkwardly set and there is a different rating system used at this gym, with many odd starts and the ratings seem inconsistent. If you're looking for a family friendly place, this is it, but I wouldn't say they have safe practices. They have a board up showing how long since their last incident and an incident involving an ambulance happened while we were there. If it were me that got hurt, I would hope the climbing gym would clear the area, but they didn't do that and people just kept climbing and working out around this hurt person and the paramedics. read more

Tried rock wall climbing for the first time and made Approach the place to learn. For the first visit they gave us a quick crash course in both their bouldering wall and belay climbing walls. This was great. It helped us figure out what we were doing and feel comfortable/safe exploring both walls. Both were fun and challenging but I enjoyed the belay system most. The staff and other guests were all friendly and helpful. The facility was clean and well maintained. I would recommend giving rock climbing and Approach gym a try! read more

Im a 5.11 v5 climber. visiting for 3 days from Arizona and they managed to squeeze my orientation in next day! They have plenty of routes to get a good work out in ranging from 5.6-5.11+ and tons of Boulder problems that would guaranty a challenge for any climber. Highly recommend! read more

Great gym- really excellent staff. Met the owner and learned about the vision and journey to set up the gym. This is a legit climbing destination for experienced climbers but also very accommodating for newbies. My wife and I gym climb often in KC and we were welcomed warmly and tested out on belay quickly. We also invited 5 of our newbie family members to join us. In no time, the Approach staff had them scrambling up the bouldering wall and clipping in to the autobelays on the taller walls. They have a legitimate training area and a nice kids play spot too. read more

Fun place for novices to experts. Our daughter recently had a play date here, so we decided to bring her and a couple friends back for some afternoon fun. It's a pretty large place with both tethered climbing as well as a large bouldering course. The staff was courteous and friendly and took my daughter and her friends through a quick safety course before letting them on their way. While our daughter and her friends had a great time, the place also caters to the more serious and experienced climbers. With numerous courses laid out by color, it looks like a great place to practice and get a great workout in. If you need equipment, they have selections of harnesses, shoes, and other essentials for purchase, or you can rent them as well. It was nice to see a water bottle refill station set up, and you can also purchase drinks, and snacks, including organic and locally sourced items (they had some items from the Grey Plume available when I was there). Overall the staff was helpful, seemed to know what they were talking about, and it looked like a great place to get your climbing fix, or try out something new to stay in shape. read more

Awesome gym, haven't tried any of the top rope walls but I landed in time for their first Bouldering competition. Approach has a superb staff as well as great route setting. It was a real pleasant surprise to see the climbing community in Omaha as such a welcoming and helpful group. If you've never been on a bouldering wall, I encourage you to check it out, be patient because while it is a fun sport, it can be quite technical if you want to "level up!" Fortunately, the climbing community is generally friendly and willing to offer beta/advice if you need! As far as the facility itself, it is clean and offers a variety of grades. One of the coolest things to see was the huge collection of hang boards to work on. Many I've never even seen before. Climb on! read more

The only drawback to this place are the shortish walls (25ft) in the lead climbing and toproping area. Otherwise, it is stellar. Great staff, great welcoming friendly community with the members, intelligent challenging route setting. Routes change regularly. This is a wonderful facility and so great for Nebraska- I never leave reviews but had to this time. Route setting was good, top rope room very short. But they make the most of it. My issue was the girl at the front desk. She was short, thin, with brown hair and glasses. She seemed like she wanted nothing to do with me and treated me like I was interrupting whatever she was doing on the computer. I asked her a few questions about the facility and she seemed annoyed. I saw giant piles of used shoes and harnesses she seemed to neglect, she was also playing music on the same computer used for payments. Like what the hell? I'm paying for a pass into your facility and I have to talk over your music? She smirked when I asked her if they where running any specials! Why so pretentious? She then ordered another man to do my facility orientation in a rude tone. He was quite nice and did a good job. The facility was great, but this girl treated me so poorly. Walking out I waved, saying goodbye politly to her. She said goodbye with a blank face. She was to focused on the website she was reading. I feel like the employer needs to do something about this employee. read more
