I enrolled my 9 year old nephew into the Jaz Family Sports & Fitness (aka APSK Martial Arts) Summer Camp program. He loved it from the first day. I am so impressed to see him actively listening to and whole-heartedly responding to the instructor (respect is expected and given). My nephew learned so many new skills ...he was, even, sparring at the end of his first day. As much as the skills, I like the example of self-control and respect that I can only infer are being demonstrated throughout the day as evidenced by the kid I pick up at the end of it. He is even calling us sir and ma'am. The day is packed with fun activities and classes. I laughed (and loved it) when he came home on the 2nd day with head-to-toe sore muscles from so much physical activity. This little guy needs to be up and moving around, alot. The classes are just the right length to teach him and to keep his interest. He likes the classes so much that he asked me not to pick him up until the last one is over so as not to miss anything. APSK Martial Arts..............................., what can I say! I have been with Master Shaw for 14 years now and it has never crossed my mind to go to a different school. Master Shaw is like a brother to me, not only as an instructor, but he has also shared his family and home with me and many of his students. I have never found any other instructor as good as Master Shaw. His style of instructing is the best you can find anywhere. His knowledge of the various arts is amazing, and he has managed to blend a little of each into his instruction. I've known Sensei Shaw for quite some time. His professionalism is unequaled, his commitment to impact lives is incredible. He sincerely cares for others and takes a personal interest in each of his students. His knowledge is vast and his experience is exceptional. My husband and I originally found APSK when we were looking into children's day camps for the summer. Both my 6 year old daughter and 8 year old son had tried karate before and just weren't that interested, but the camp offered so many other activities like dance, tumbling, swimming, movies and field trips so we thought we'd give it a try. Plus, we really liked Professor Shaw and felt he would be a great roll model for the kids. As it turned out the kids LOVED the camp and are now really enjoying martial arts. They begged us to sign them up for the after school program so they could keep going during the school year. My son has really grown this summer has a new confidence that wasn't there before. Both kids want to join the black belt club now and are looking forward to participating in their first martial arts tournament. This is an AMAZING place!!! read more

My son has been going here for about 6 months and has been loving it. They are great with kids and I love the push good manners and that this is for self defense only. My son really made the turning point when he was going for his first belt (tots yellow). He told me he wanted it really bad and he had never been that excited about anything before. I told him he had to work hard and earn it. If he didn't get it that's ok. Just meant he needed to work harder and get it next time he was invited to test. Well he worked hard and earned it. To this day I will remember the big hug he gave me and told me he did it! I am happy to say he currently holds a tots orange belt. APSK has given him something to look forward to and the desire to work hard and accomplish his goals. I would recommend this dojo to any parent. Just got done visiting APSK for a couple of days while I performed in Phoenix, Arizona on a national theatre tour. Professor Shaw is an excellent instructor, offering a wide variety of martial arts disciplines all under the same membership. With a background in stunts and stage violence and a desire to train at a quality facility as I travel, I was honored to have the opportunity to study here for my short stay. I would absolutely recommend the academy (and a full membership) to any locals with families that are interested in studying a variety of different martial disciplines in one location with experienced, informed instruction. APSK is also very much a community, where everyone is working toward bettering their character, along with their skills, and it shows on and off the floor. I found APSK Martial Arts Academy through a Groupon and when I looked at their website, I called to leave a message to ask a few questions. It was just after 7 in the morning but Master Shaw answered the call and made me feel secure about having my almost 4 year old - a little under the age limit - attend a week of Summer Camp. The camp is action packed! From 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, the kids are doing! Movie theater and swimming on the first day, swimming and dance and martial arts on the second day, Zoo on third day, dance, swimming, martial arts on 4th day and Skateland on the last day! Master Shaw and his instructors are great people! Absolutely NOT daycare, as they advertise, it is a learning and growing experience for your kid! My son will absolutely be returning!! read more

My son has been with APSK Martial Arts Academy almost 2 years now. We were looking for an after school program and we SCORED when we found them!!! This is his second year in summer camp too, we love this place! This program has been amazing for our son and our family!! APSK was the third Dojo we sent our son to. I was becoming discouraged and thinking I might need to try something else to help him learn discipline, leadership self confidence, goal orientated progress and teamwork. To put it mildly, I was extremely hesitant to try martial arts. I am morbidly obese and thought a MMA dojo was the absolute last place I would ever be comfortable. My son (11 years old) has been doing karate since 4 years old. We have been to 2 other schools, unhappy with the first and the second one closed. This school is top notch! Apsk is a good experience...at apsk we teach how to defend yourself...in a fun way we do martial arts, dance, and we do fun game like dodge ball, nerf wars etc. we go on feild trips everyday there are helpers volunteering each day ...its an amazing summer camp for the kids...i jabe an awesome experienced here at APSK, i would recommend it to anybody read more

Professor Shaw and his Staff do a great job with the kids. I brought my children there and we were impressed with how clean the facility is and how much care they take to ensure hand washing and sanitizing. I'm a assistant Instructor in martial arts, over the years I achieve a lot of experience in teaching, self defense, and making friends.
