Where do I begin ? I guess I'll begin at the beginning. I had always wanted to do something creative for a living . I had always been told " What a wonderful voice you have " , " Do you do commercials " ? I had been asked these questions by men & women alike . It was then that a lightbulb went off in my head .." I should try my hand at voiceover " . I first approached a well known school here in Manhattan that is on the leading EDGE of the VO industry. I was evaluated by an established VO actress who looked as if she wished she was anywhere but with us that Saturday afternoon. Not knowing any better I signed up for some lessons. Once they began I felt I was in the wrong place... a cog in a wheel if you will. I needed some quality one on one training. After studying up on VO instructors I came across APVOICES. I met Elie in there recording space deep under the Upper West Side and was instantly at ease with her and my surroundings. Once she explained her teaching style I was sold. I signed up for a package deal which included a few lessons and production of a Commercial and Narration demo at the finish. My lessons over that Wonderful Summer were informative , lively , exciting and just plain fun. Whenever I finished I couldn't wait to get home and practice what I had learned in class that day. I met Frank when I was ready to record my demos. Frank is the man .. Attentive , Smart , and Extremely talented. My name is Kay and I recorded my demo yesterday. I'm thrilled to say the recording session went perfect!! Ellie Devers is AAAAAAAMAZING!!!!! She is ozzzing with talent and I soaked it all in!!!! She gives direction well... She's honest, funny and when she speaks you can't help but listen ( she has a excellent speaking voice in combination with her acting skills) she is awesome!!!! I am an actress, however I have never done voice over work before so I didn't know what to expect. While waiting for my first appointment with Ellie I was so nervous and thought about talking myself out of it because I didn't care to work with people that would be rude, make you feel inferior, and all about the money. However, I came from a different state so I stayed and atleast checked it out; I'm so glad I did. She made me feel so comfortable with her, we worked on different pieces that day and in that time she made me feel like I knew her for years and I realized that I was over thinking it....this was a lot like acting (thank you Ellie); I let loose and became all these different characters. Futhermore, I met Frank yesterday for the recording session for the first time and he was a delight...nice guy. He is a real master in that studio ..... I mean if I wasn't in the booth recording; I don't think I would have believed it lol. The sound was so rich like you would hear on the radio or T.V. Even though I look up reviews when purchasing items or doing business with companies I never write them but I had to put this out there because you get superior quality interaction/relationship with Ellie and Frank along with a home run demo!! I worked with Ellie and Frank a few years ago to make my demo, and I must say that I'm surprised by the 1-star reviewer's (John F's) comments. Above anything else, I would say that "thieves and liars" is not on the list of terms I'd use to describe them. They were entirely above-board with me. I grant that my experience was a while ago, but I'd guess that the other reviewer's experience was, most likely, just an honest mistake. He probably did just slip through the cracks. That's obviously not good, but it's not lying and thievery, either. As for my own experience: I found Ellie to be an excellent teacher. She was very good at helping me connect with the copy and get to a place where I could be real while saying it. I think she helped me produce the best demo I had in me at the time. My only significant dissatisfaction was that they didn't help me more once I had my demo and was trying to get started. It would have been nice to get a little bit more guidance as I fell from the nest, so to speak. (To be fair, they did give me some websites and technical info. for beginners.) That said, I would be willing to work with them again, especially because I think Ellie's talent as an acting guide is, in my experience, anyway, very unusual. read more

I must say Frank Piazza has done a superb job role as a audio engineer.He technically blend-ed and edit thematic music tracks on my voiceover demos.I listened carefully to my MP3 product. I must say it sounded fantastic. He shows a good amount of patience and tolerance when he's on recording mode. He directs and guides his voiceover talents very well. The same I would also say of Ms Devers.She's a very good voiceover coach. She directs talent very well. Step by step, page by page.She has the ability to detect strenths and weaknesses.durlng rehearsals.She'll go along with good care on your improvisations. For some reason, Yelp hides my review of AP Voices, but I think it's important to try again because I've taken further classes with Ellie Devers and I've been so impressed with her teaching skills and knowledge. So: I took voiceover lessons with Ellie Devers at AP Voices and it was one of the most terrific student/teacher experiences I've ever had. Her enthusiasm, personal attention to my particular strengths and weaknesses, and her terrific sense of humor not only put me at ease but gave me the confidence to record a solid demo tape. She also gave me expert (and realistic) advice about breaking into the voiceover field. I felt I got more than my money's worth. I am so pumped about what these guys have done for me! I saw this on Living Social and bought the deal. It was a class of 10 people at their Upper West Side studio. Everyone read scripts, recorded their voices and got great info about the industry. I liked the class so much I signed up for one of their training and demo packages. Ellie worked with me and fine tuned my reading skills and Frank recorded and produced a professional demo (and I am going post it as soon as I finish my website). I went to APVoices for VO lessons and then made my demo. Well I can honestly say after working with Ellie Devers that she was very professional. Her attention to detail was extraordinary. She found talent in me that even I didn't know I had. It was thanks to her that I was able to bring out the emotions called for by the scripts. As for my demo I worked with Frank Piazza who was exceptional putting my demo together. Working with Ellie and Frank they had me do the performance of a lifetime.
