I'm a guy and this was my first pedicure ever so take my review with a grain of salt. I decided to come here with some friends after getting some ice cream at Jeni's just down the street. It was a spur of the moment decision, but one that I did not regret in the slightest. We were tended to immediately and seated within a couple of minutes on a Sunday afternoon. I spent $30 on the basic pedicure and my feet felt rejuvenated after the 30 minute experience. Sitting back in the massage chair was a relaxing way to round out the entire experience. Was in town for a short weekend getaway with my boyfriend and after a lot of walking, decided to get pedicures. Luckily, Aqua Day Spa was right next to our hotel. They had several types of pedicures to choose from and we chose the sugar scrub pedicure for $35. Wonderful and relaxing experience. Both gentlemen were professional and really nice as well. I saw comments about there being a smell but that's because there's a cigar lounge right next door. This nail salon has several air purifiers and diffusers to help with the smell but what can they do? It's not their fault. I just moved to the area and wanted to find a go to place to get my nails done--- well this was DEFINITELY NOT the place. I wanted a relaxing time to get my nails done but had a horrible experience at Aqua Day Spa and Nails. I had an appointment at the end of the day and when I showed up, the nail techs were rude and not happy my appointment was the last one! Why would you let me schedule an appointment for that time if you will hate the customer for it?! Anyway, I was rushed by the nail tech to pick a color and when I did she sat me down and did the job as fast as she could. It was not a gentle, relaxing mani/pedi at all. The cuticle job was terrible and the nail polish was uneven and on top of the cuticles on some toes/fingers. When I commented and asked it to be fixed--- the nail tech would just smile and say sure but turn around and call me names to her colleagues in Vietnamese. Little did she know that I was Vietnamese. So the rest of the appointment I would listen to the nail techs talk bad about me, other customers and the esthetician (believe her name was Jessica -- who is not Vietnamese). These nail techs should really be more professional, respectful of their customers and provide a better service. At the end of the appointment, the nail tech mentioned in Vietnamese that I was probably not going to give her a tip. Boy, was she right! I did not even want to pay for the horrible service. The tech seemed a bit embarrassed when she saw my Vietnamese last name on my credit card. So glad it was my one and only experience here-- I would never come back. read more

I literally just left this nail salon and I am disgusted with the service I received here! I am visiting from out of town and needed a place to get my nails done and thought why not try this place out.. I wish I DIDN'T! First of all, there were two men there and they were the rudest , I walked in the door and they asked me "what do I want.." not even a , "hey how can I help you?" . I got an eyebrow wax and my face has been breaking out where it was waxed for two weeks. The price was decent, $12. I wouldn't return because instead of poorly groomed eyebrows now I have bumps and breakouts. Skip it. The place is next door to a cigar and smoking shop and the smell has permeated the walls into the salon. I can't imagine being in the salon longer than the couple minutes my wax took to complete. Very accommodating to our large bridal party but the bride got a "creepy" message and no ones nails looked that good. The bride (the most important one!!) couldn't wait for her message to be over. A booking had been made by my bridesmaids for all 5 of us to get our nails done at the same time. They were assured this would happen and the company called to confirm the day before. When we arrived the we're running very late, started on one of the girls, had two others sit in the spa chairs and the other two sit in waiting. The pedicure was good but the shellac manicure started to show signed of wear in 24 hours, began to chip in three days and a nail needed to be repaired due to peeling before the week was up. The nail technician was very nice, but the salon was overwhelmed and the owner just walked away while dealing with people if they proved too "difficult". The customer service was definitely lacking. If you have time to kill in the morning or early evening, before the rush starts I'm sure they'll do a better job and there won't be the wait but if you need a mani or a pedi during peak hours I would probably go elsewhere. read more

I had to go to work that day and I was not stressed about time because of how quick and efficient she was. A quick, decent place to get a pedi from my experience. There's not usually a wait for walk-ins on weekday afternoons, which is when I tend to go in for a pedicure. The location is super central at Calhoun & King, so it's easy to pop into Aqua while running errands, etc. I usually get the Sea Salt Pedicure ($35), and I'm usually quite satisfied with the results. No one is overly talkative there, which I actually prefer, though I do recommend being very vocal about what you want in terms of "spend more time on the heels, please!" ETC. So many things went wrong, first the nail tech tried to offer me to pay 40 for ombré, but when I declined I was clearly talked about amongst the staff. Next when I kept asking for a longer acrylic nail shape he would go barely a millimeter and when I said to cut he went back in length and cut it shorter. Wtf. When the man was shaving down my cuticles it hurt but I didnt say anything but then when he started pulling off the dead skin 7 of my 10 fingers began to bleed. although only one was bleeding bad i didn't say anything. he got a napkin and started cleaning up the blood but i guess he gave up because he then went on to put my bloody finger in the sns dip then he used glue to stop the bleeding. My issue with this isn't that i was bleeding but that the blood wasn't cleaned up i got white sns nails, and you can see blood under the clear top. also, the sense is very thick and makes my nails look huge. read more

AWFUL SERVICE! DO NOT RECOMMEND !!! Called for an appointment coming all the way from Beaufort, SC (1.5 hours away) with my mom. We wanted pedicures and gel manicures and were told that it wasn't that busy so we wouldn't need to make an appointment. When we arrived, we were so excited to get our nails done because I had a hair appointment after, so it was going to be a pamper day. When we walked in, the lady who looked like she was in charge kind of just nodded us to the end chair to sit down. When we sat, nobody even turned the water on for us for about 5-10 minutes. Then, my water was cold and nobody was around to ask to help. When my mom finally flagged down a lady to make my water warmer, she turned on the burning hot water and just walked away, so the water ended up burning my feet. Then, my mom and I sat with our feet in the water for another 20 minutes at least and nobody even acknowledged that we were there. We finally decided that at that rate, we were going to be late to my hair appointment, so we got up and left. When the lady in charge saw us walking out all she said was "sorry 'bout that." in a very insincere way. My mom and I were so looking forward to a girls day together, and we were really disappointed at the awful service we received. A decent pedicure for the price. We opted for the exfoliating salt scrub. The massage chairs are strong and were a big hit with many in our group who were tired from a long flight. They were not as thorough with the callous filing as some places but they charged $35 plus tip which was quite fair for the service. Only caution is that my sister's manicure was just so-so and the polish came out with bubbles. When she asked them to take it off they insisted on fixing it, which they tried to do with OK results but you could still see a bubble here and there. read more

I didn't get greeted until 6:30 and I was waiting in the pedi station for an additional 10 before they started filling the water.... Weren't able to deliver on a simple 3 panel design on my nails and I couldn't relax as 3 people were working on me at the same time and rushing their work because it was close to closing. They didn't speak English well and it was impossible to communicate that I was upset.... They charged me full price at first. After continuing to talk on the phone in another language (with upset and aggravated tones mind you) she finally offered $10 off. I didn't leave until 8:30 pm! Outrageous, take your money elsewhere. I would not recommend this spa for nails and pedicure. It is not personalized and you feel like you're in an assembly line. I had one person start my pedicure the. Leave me and start two or three others while I waited. Then I was given to another person for my manicure. Neither put lotion on my feet nor my hands. I had to put it on my hands myself. I also had to soak my fingers in acetone to get my old polish removed rather than wrapping them with cotton and foil. Not healthy! I also thought it was over priced. I had seen and heard that Aqua Nails was the best place to go Downtown for a great, professional nail experience. The personal experience itself was warm and friendly but the nail work was not close to par. The nail tech recommended the SNS dip powder to me, talking very highly about it. I had never gotten anything but gel polish, but the way he described it seemed to be worth it. Moments later I realized that I had made the wrong decision trusting his word. After trying to finish off the top coat for the third time, I washed my hands and saw the paint had came completely off. I was fed up after so many times of him trying, so I told the nail tech I was willing to pay him for my pedicure but that I was over it and willing to walk out with my nails looking horrible. He laughed in my face and told me he could continue to try to fix them. I realized to myself that I had been there for 3 and a half hours and that if I was paying the money I was going to get my money's worth. My nails finally dried and looked better than before, but nothing miraculous. I accepted that I had made a bad decision about going into Aqua nails but that I was FINALLY getting out of there. Called in for a mani pedi. Arrived 3 minutes late due to parking. My boyfriend and I wanted to have a nice relaxing end of our Sunday. Well, we waited 25 minutes and my pedicure was extremely sub par. A guy named Ricky, with bad manners barely cared as he impolitely proceeded with a "pedicure". Afterward he tried to force me to put my flip flops on. I said I'll wait to have my manicure. In California where we're both from, they do the mani-pedi at the same time. I was confused as to why he was trying to put my shoes on as my pedi had barely been finished. Apparently they want you to go to a different part of the shop for a manicure. I asked if I could wait for a minute before putting my shoes on. I hate when the smudge your toes! He proceeded to get angry with me and spoke in another language to his peers. He then said "no manicure for me". The other sweet gal helping my boyfriend said "why didn't you just put your shoes on!" Apparently I really irritated him. I didn't know this rule as almost every other shop I've been to in all of my years does the mani-pedi at the same time OR you don't switch your station. I won't come back. I actually tried to come a week prior and they were completely booked and after waiting an hour it told the lady up front I would come back another time. I didn't actually stay for services, because this place smelled soooooo bad, like stale cigarette smoke. I noticed later that there was a hookah bar next door, so that is likely the culprit. And maybe this is just part of Charleston - I noticed stale-smoke-smell there a lot more than other places I've visited. But it was overpowering.
