Teenage sizes in a town full of older, full-bodied women. No D-cup tops or Large bottoms. Prices are $50 per piece. I don't know if it's because i'm brown, but I was watched like a hawk by the associates while older white guys were free to roam the store without harassment. I had two girls in close proximity to me at all times while I browsed. All items have a security tag on it so it doesn't make sense to be watched like that. I had two girls watching me as I returned from the fitting room and pulled out the pieces that I wanted. The women's fitting room is exposed to the public so husbands and male associates can directly see into the fitting room when you open the door and are in your underwear (asking for another size, or wanting a full-body view in a mirror). I had the pieces that i wanted in hand, but decided to get a different bottom. After spending $250 (I found the ONLY 3 sets in my D cup and Large size bottoms) I asked if i could look at the sun glasses at the register. The girls at the register said they'd keep my bag (that i just paid for) at the counter. I felt eyes on me and saw both girls at the counter staring at me while they checked out other people at the register. An older white guy was at the counter and the girl asked who helped him today he said "nobody." It was so creepy. I also paid full-price for frayed bikinis, and an over-reach of surveillance (even tho it's all tagged) just because they are the only shop in town with bikinis and i'm visiting. Just order cheaper sets online before your vacation here. Save yourself the humiliation and save on your budget. You could make some money if you want to document, and sue for racial profiling and harassment. read more

Although this shop has great inventory and selections, they have a very lame almost shameful business policy for Veterans. For years they honored Veterans discounts (thank you btw). Now however, they have special days that they say they offer it and the products can vary. Look, if you don't want to honor Veterans discounts I honestly have no problem with that. However, DO NOT say you do when you really make it impractical to exercise. read more

Great experience buying my first surf board with Chuck... I will definitely shop there again!!!!

In May I bought two pairs of "Reef" flip flops at Aqua East, one for me and one for my ten year old son. This weekend, one of my sandals had the strap come completely off while I was vacuuming my house. The flip flops are otherwise in like new condition. I went into the store today and the two young women at the cash register snootily told me that the store has a strict ten day return policy and no exchanges after that period. In other words, they told me that there's nothing to be done other than me contacting the maker of the flip flops. Aqua East charges top prices for merchandise but doesn't stand behind that merchandise. Buyer beware! They also employ people who'd rather act cool (and condescending) than to help customers. read more

Wasn't greeted upon arrival. Girls and manager on duty were gossiping and trash talking peers. Made for a very bad vibe in the air. Swim suit selection is very poor, mainly millennial triangle tops and bottoms. read more

This place needs new management!! Dennis is just awful. He spoke down to me and I actually witnessed him treat a girl working there with zero respect while she was helping me. The store itself is ok. It's clean and the things they sell are nice enough. But I turned around and walked out once I heard how the manager treats his staff. I love this surf shop. It is clean, organized and open extended hours compared to most. Yeah, it's more expensive than buying online, but you get to try things on and get it right then which is important if you're on vacation or need to get out in/on the water right away. The young people who work there are good hearted but sometimes a bit lacking in social graces. I think the people who write bad reviews don't realize how bad they treat these less experienced people. Don't they remember how it was when they were young? I found they were helpful and nice if I asked a question or kindly requested something. They have a big selection of most things you'd need for the beach. I highly recommend this shop. read more

Overly expensive. Everything is marked up far beyond the price you would find for the same item online. At the front counter, it says they will price match. I showed them the exact same item on Amazon for 30% less and they said, "Oh, we can't match Amazon sorry." So I'm scratching my head. Do I need to find another brick-and-mortar store in the area, take a photo of their price tag, and then show it to the front desk? But how will I prove the photo came from that location? How does the system work at all? No one knows. read more

I love the items that they sell and the abundance they have of everything. This most recent time going, their sales section was smaller than normal. I have been here multiple times but decided to write a review this time concerning the customer service and attitude of the many workers that seem to all stand up by the cash register without offering any help. Unfortunately anytime I go in there I feel like I am a burden by asking them a question. It's such a disappointment because I think if their staff was talked to, this would be my ultimate favorite surf shop, but as of now, I feel unwelcome. read more

My family is not from St Augustine but we come here all the time. We love coming to Aqua East because they always have nice things, a full variety and very nice employees. Well the other day they went above and beyond. I didn't realize it was Sunday and Jenna(an employee) was finishing her breakfast on her own time. She informed us they we not open yet and I was so embarrassed. And then she said if I need something quick she wouldn't mind opening the store. I told her I need a rash guard for my husband. She opened the store for us. She helped me find what I was looking for and even helped my daughter. All while trying to open and do her thing. Jenna was/is a wonderful and kind person who could have easily told us to wait and we would have. Now I know some people are gonna say. Well why didn't you just wait until the open time and be a good person yourself. I was so overwhelmed with her being so sweet that I just took it. It doesn't happen enough in this world. I know this is just a review of a shop at the beach but I wanted people to know it's the small things that people do that stick with you. We have always had great service at Aqua East and will continue to go as long as we come to the beach. read more

My husband and I went here with our very spirited three year old. We were taking turns watching her while the other shopped and a sweet associate, Macie, came up and started playing with her. He directed me straight to the rack, quickly assisted me with picking out shirts for everyone, and told me that they were on sale Then I realized I also needed durable beach chairs. Love this place, been coming here for years. They always have great clothing. I live in NY but always make a point to come in and buy some Billabong shirts, shorts, etc. only issue is that I just drove 45 minutes to find the place closed at 8 pm and I arrived at 8:10 pm. When I googled it said hours are 9 AM to 9 PM. That sucks. So I give three stars based on that. Normally it would be 4.. read more

This place ripped me off. Went to Keys so got some board shorts from there. I know what size I wear and when I got home they were not right size (staff put on wrong rack) . Brought them back 11 days later after trip in original back with receipt and tags still on them. They would not give me a refund but took them back to re-sell. I'm out of 50 bucks now. My recent experience with customer service was less than pleasant. The young lady who checked me out moved me to a register which was piled high with clothing without moving any of it. Our entire conversation consisted of "Do you have I D?". I realize I'm not the demographic you cater to but a little courtesy would have gone a long way. Over the course of a year I spend a few hundred dollars on Birthday/Christmas gifts. I'll be shopping elsewhere! read more

FYI- Just want to pass on that I had the best experience from Aqua East's Surf Shop in St. Augustine. i had a watch that was a little over 6 month old that had slowed down and wasn't keeping time properly. Unfortunately, we didn't have a receipt due to Hurricane Mathew which destroyed our home, so they referred us to the manufacturer. After calling and emailing them for 2 weeks with no response. I called the store and spoke with "Seth" who went above and beyond to assist me in taking care of me despite all my attempts with the manufacturer. He was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable about the product. Thank you very much guy's for all you did for me.... If you wouldn't have cared about your customer it wouldn't have happened. read more

Horrible customer service - do not shop here! Stopped in earlier today to buy a new pair of flip flops for my husband. We were specifically looking for flips flops that could get wet (like get caught in the rain wet). Unfortunately they didn't have a huge selection in his size, but we did find a pair of Reef sandals. The blond sales girl assured him the style he picked out is water proof. Long story short, it is not water proof or even water friendly according to the Reef website. We went back to the store tonight, less than 6 hours after buying them, but were told by a rude (dark haired) sales girl they could not accept them for return because they cannot be resold after being worn. The other sales rep suggested we come back tomorrow morning and talk to the manager, Dennis. He assured us Dennis will work with us. Ugh! This is a headache over $40 sandals, which are comfortable and great, other than they are not intended for water use! Aqua East's return policy as outlined on their receipts do not prohibit return of foot ware, so I find it frustrating we got crappy attitude from one employee and "sorry can't help you...talk to the manager" from the other. They should have found a way to work with us right then, regardless of whether or not the sandals could be resold or not. read more

Recently while visiting St Augustine, I went to Aqua East Surf Shop looking for a swim suit. I was amazed by the selection of not only swimsuits, but all the ladies apparel. I purchased several different outfits. The next day I returned with my husband so he could purchase t-shirts, board shorts and shoes. All the associates were very courteous and helpful. I especially remember Heather who was very knowledgeable of all the merchandise. I can't wait to my next trip to St. Augustine, I will definitely shop at Aqua East. read more

AWFUL!! I came to these guys to buy a long board for my 7 year old. We rode it for a half day of which I supervised because she could not paddle it. I could not ride it because I found it far to flexible. If the fins touched sand it would have been with her 50lb frame. After I came out of the water I discovered the fin boxes had broke loose from the board. I brought the back to shop that day and asked what could be done I waited about an hour to hear from the manager that there would be no concession on a trade in or repair. I broke the board and now it would be treated as a used trade in. I went down the street to a local place I had purchased a few boards from years ago. They pointed out the poor construction of the fin boxes and that this board had the wrong size fins in the slots. They said they could fix the board right, put the correct fins in it and resell it. So they offered me more $ for the trade than Aqua east and set me up with a nice single fin long board that could be surfed by me and my daughter. This place may be okay for clothes but DO NOT buy a board form here. read more
