I would recommend Aquatots based on the fact that my 15 year-old niece started there about 11 years ago and turned out to be a great competitive swimmer. I do credit Aquatots to giving her a great beginning. And I loved all the teachers and the managers back then. Now I have a great niece that has been going there for over a year and everything seemed to be going pretty well until a couple of months ago when her mother felt like they had been disrespected and mistreated by a manager there. I understand she was singled out to have to leave the swimming area between classes because of the starting time of her next class time. I also understand that they had never seen that before, and never had it ever happened to them before. I think it was more about the way the manager treated them about the incident. It took a few months for me to write the review because you try to overlook these things, but after reading a couple of reviews that had the same content I was pushed to write the review. We didn't want to take her out because she wanted to stay at the swim school because of friends she had met there. I think you need to take some time to re-educate some of the staff on how to treat people. read more

I visited Aqua-Tots Swim School on Tuesday night with my niece, and unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. The coach was absent for the first few minutes of class, and when she finally arrived, she seemed disengaged and not very attentive to the kids--my niece included. What was even more concerning was that several instructors were overheard chatting and gossiping in the bathroom and all came out at once, delaying the start of multiple classes. It gave the impression that professionalism and punctuality weren't being prioritized, which is disappointing for a place that's supposed to be focused on young swimmers' development and safety. I'm hoping this was just a one-off situation, as I've heard positive things about Aqua-Tots in the past. I'd love to see more structure and focus from the instructors moving forward. read more

We have been in Aqua Tots for 4+ years. Very tight, cramped space for swim lessons, especially for young children. The curriculum is really good, though - my kids showed lots of improvement. My biggest qualm is with the scheduling. My kids graduate from one level to another - sometimes after just a month or two - and then they can't be in the same time slot because there is no class space available at the same time. So they propose a different day. My kids have Ninja class, Abrakadoodle, soccer, and piano - I don't have the flexibility to change my day of week or time slot every month or two. They got a new manager who is a nightmare. I really enjoyed working with the old manager and most of his staff. Annette or Anna T (General Manager I spoke with today) was rude, misplaced our reservation, and sent us away without a lesson. Time to go see if my kids can get into Goldfish or another swim lessons location in the area. Steer clear of Aqua Tots while this person is running it. read more

My daughter has been a student here for 3 years. She is a competent, safe swimmer who is now perfecting advanced strokes under the tutelage of Coach Hunter. All of her coaches have been amazing and the staff here is overall very kind. please don't waste your money ‼ classes are frequently cut short. Usually they were topping out at about 25 mins but my sons last class (8/26) was only 20 minutes long and when we cancelled that day we still had to pay for all of september out $105 bucks because i'm not driving 30 minutes for a 20 minute class. Other notes: the young classes are basically swimming in a 7ft x 7ft area maybe even smaller. with a full class of 4 kids and their parent and the teacher you can barely move around. also, some of the teachers should definitely not be working with children they look generally uninterested, rolling eyes, are chatting while their classes are going and not paying attention (which seems dangerous because they probably should be watching the children swimming). really, really just not worth the money at all. read more

My daughter has been coming here for about a year and a half. The first year was great- Will is amazing. But it's just been steadily declining in the quality of service. MANY of the instructors need proper training on how to work with children. Maybe some of them just aren't warm or comforting people, but there are others who straight up get frustrated with some kids (evident by their eye rolling). Classes frequently start late (5 mins) and end a couple minutes early- for a 30 min. class, that's quite a bit of time lost. Seems there is also a lot of turnover, I've been through a few instructors myself. That quality service we experienced at the beginning just isn't there anymore. I hope that changes soon! read more

My 3 year old daughter was very timid and straight up Petrified of water. The instructor had to pull her from my arms, screaming. After a few min of crying bloody murder in the pool, the instructor got her calm and playing with a baby doll :) so impressed! The next week a new instructor helped with my daughter. This instructors method was much more firm and it was obvious she was trying to complete a lesson and not look at my child. My daughter was visibly upset and not comfortable going under water. The instructor continued and forced it. My daughter compiled but upset. After she refused to go back. I am not a parent who lets my kids quit things bc they don't like it. However watching the last lesson, I couldn't subject my daughter to that again. When I called to notify we will not finish our month free pass, she didn't even ask why. I asked wouldn't you like to know?? I shared experience. She said that was the manager who did the second lesson. Wow! When a manager doesn't adjust when a 3 year old is timid, that tells me a lot about how staff is being trained. Thankfully my daughter is at a new swim facility that she loves and wants to go to every day if she could. I'm so happy Aqua-Tots didn't scar her, but I would never go back read more

Terrible management, don't treat their instructors right and they don't last long there. Canton location is going down really bad since 2019. There was a parent their taking pictures of little kids in the changing area and posting them on the web. I reached out to the owner Annette about the situation, she was acting like it was no big deal. Annette it wasnt big deal for you because they were not your kids but it was big deal for the parents. I took my kids out of aqua - tots because she didn't provide any updates on the situation and didn't make necessary changes that the parents suggested. This is a great swim school! My son has excelled. There are only 4 kids in his class and the teachers make sure to spend equal time with each kid. My son never complains of going to swim unlike all other activities we have tried. The facility is clean and staff has always been very nice. read more

I researched many of the surrounding swim programs, both private, like Aqua tots, and community based, such as at the local recreation centers. I have 4 year old twins and have been putting them in other swim programs since they were 2.5 years old. One program had the water temp so cold that my sons emerged with blue lips. Another program has been working with them for some time but neither child has progressed to jumping in or swimming with their face in the water. One son won't even let me get his face we while bathing him! Needless to say, I was skeptical about the program at Aqua tots. I have been pleasantly surprised by all my experiences. First, when calling to set up appointments, the manager was very helpful and since my 2 kids and my neighbors kids wanted to swim together, she let us pick from several times where she could add a class at their level. They explained everything very carefully to us so we know their policies for make up and cancellations, etc. (This is a bonus because most of the community centers do not allow for make-up lessons if you miss class). Then of course, the water temp is nice and warm, so the kids never have chattering teeth or blue lips! The instructors give frequent warm feedback to the children during the lesson so they are constantly feeling accomplished with their skills. After the lessons, they speak to the parents in front of the children and are very careful to give the constructive criticism in a fashion that will not cause children to think they are not doing well. I am pleased to say that after 4 lessons, my son who needs a washcloth to cover his eyes in the bathtub is willing to swim a bit with his face in the water (even under water)! This improvement alone has earned Aqua Tots my respect! read more

So very glad that Canton now has its own school dedicated to swimming! My kids have been going for a few weeks now, and I've already seen improvement. My youngest, who actually screamed and cried during his initial evaluation out of fear of swimming without his floaties, is now dog paddling AND going underwater on his own. Yes, seriously, and we've only had 4 lessons thus far. I don't know how they do it, but the coaches really seem to put the anxious ones at ease. My older one was always a decent swimmer, but she's never been formally taught specific strokes. She is now doing the back and breast stroke and is working on her side breathing for her freestyle. The staff is extremely friendly! They greet every person coming through the door -- even if just to say "I'll be with you in a moment," and the coaches will always take time to tell you how your child is progressing. The interior is spotlessly clean. There is a changing area in the back, and there is never icky water on the floor (you know, like your high school locker room...ewww). There is soap available for showering, hair dryers, water extractors for swimsuits, extra hair ties, and q-tips for an effortless clean up and exit. We really enjoy coming here and plan to continue to do so. read more

Do not go here. My son has been going here for awhile and I had been really happy. There were a number of coaches that were good, but over the last year it has really declined in quality. My son has had a coach that doesn't even watch the kids. I watched the "coach" looking in the opposite direction as the kids were swimming. I had another coach that sat on the side of the pool the entire session and didn't bother correctly technique for any of the kids during the session. The quality of coaches has really gone down. The service has also declined. I wanted to put my son's swim lessons on hold for the spring and the general manager, Chris, told me that I had to drop him after 30 days so I was still responsible for paying part of another month. I explained that I did the same thing last year and was allowed to end at the end of the current month and then resume swimming in the spring. He didn't care and said I signed something and I had to give 30 days notice for dropping him. It was pretty frustrating that this has become an issue when in the past it was very easy to place swimming lessons on hold. read more

I'm very well pleased with this swim school for children. My daughters Camille and Lauren are attending there program. My youngest daughter was so afraid of water within two sessions she wasn't afraid anymore Steve and Grant made her very comfortable in the water. I love the fact that class sizes are small and the kids get the attention they need. My older child Camille has Maddy and she is so awesome with her my jumping in the pool without fear she always want to practice her skill in the water. My oldest have learned to float youngest one is on her way. The front staff is very friendly and always say sometime nice to every kid that comes in the door and remembers all of there names. Really cool place to go I hear they even often adult swim lessons too!! I love the free programs for Mother's Day and Father's Day it's awesome!! I trust them 300% with my children. I love how Aqua Tots celebrate every child accomplishment big or small. This is the place to be and worth every penny. read more

Our family is thrilled with Aqua Tots in Canton! We joined at the open house even though we were currently attending a competitor school in Farmington Hills. The benefits of Aqua Tots over our previous swim school include: a very comfortable and spacious viewing area for the parents, pleasantly low noise level, comfortable room temperature, and many available changing rooms. These factors are a huge improvement over the other school we attended before. Aqua Tots also has magazines for parents as well as a snack bar. The instructors are excellent and really engage the children. Our older daughter is on a competitive swim team and some of her instructors also teach at Aqua Tots so they are invested in the local community. We love Aqua Tots! The instruction is developmentally appropriate for our twins! The progression through the swim levels was just what we were looking for in a swim school. I worked here and when I just now noticed all of the 5-star reviews, I had to jump in. First of all, they are not teaching your child how to swim until like level 4 or 5. Anything before that is stuff that you could do on your own in the bathtub or at a local pool for much cheaper and much more enjoyable. The kids hate the water and the teachers do not care, and are constantly told that even if a child is terrified or crying you still have to dunk them. The boss is terrible, I am not sure if she is still there, but I hope not. (I know that they were keeping an eye on her after such a big turn around with employees. This is what they told me at my exit interview.) So many employees were barely making it 2 or 3 months here, and it is because it is such a terrible environment for all. Several times, my boss would come over to me and ask me in front of the kids why they were not doing something well, once she made fun of this little boys goggles which hurt his feelings. The staff is working the entire shift with no breaks. My shifts were from 9 am until 4, no breaks. Which means if you had to pee, you know what happened. There is no time for a break, since its 30 minute classes one after the other. By the end of the days i was exhausted and starving and had headaches. The only time you get a "break" is if all 4 of your kids do not come into their lesson, but then you have to clean the pool deck for that half hour. All in all, I would really not recommend bringing your children here. Find a pool nearby, such as the summit and pay the family membership or something. Teach your kids yourself, they don't have to be olympians, just as long as they can have fun and stay safe. read more

We had very bad experience in GOLD FISH Canton location so we enrolled our son in Aqua tots Canton. Their Staff is so cool, friendly and they know how to handle young kids. My three year old son was so afraid to go in a pool on his first swimming session, nevertheless one of staff (Ms. Catherine) came to us and she took him in a pool area; moreover, offered him few toys. She was very friendly and well trained young lady. After few minutes he was playing in a pool with other kids. I would appreciate Aqua tots's staff.
