The rabbits and guinea pigs here are kept in terrible condition. I attached photos of the rabbits. They're kept in way too small of cages. The one rabbit didn't even really have any food. Rabbits are prone to digestion issues and need to be able to be constantly eating. There weren't any hideaways provided for them, or any toys for enrichment or to chew on and keep their teeth down. I didn't get pictures of the guinea pigs. Their cage was literally just stacked on top of the rabbits'. But they also didn't have any toys and no hideaways. Because of this, they were visibly super stressed out because they were kept front and center of the store and didn't have any place to hide and get away from the stressors. The top of their cage was also just open and I saw little kids reaching their hands in without any employees around to facilitate customers interacting with the animals like that. Honestly terrible for everyone involved because A.) The kids could get bit B.) It stresses out the animals C.) The animals are learning to be afraid of people are going to be difficult to socialize with anyone that takes them home and D.) Any germs on the kids' hands could easily be transmitted to the animals and make them sick. This store should just stick with fish honestly. I'm not as knowledgeable about the other kinds of animals they have as I am about guinea pigs and rabbits, but the owners definitely either don't care about the animals or are just really uneducated about the animals they're selling. read more

They have the best prices in town and it's family owned. Seems like they're usually pretty busy during rush hour, all of us must stop in on our way home from work! It's a good place to wait out the traffic on Ohio river blvd. I have gotten some nice fish here, the only time I've lost any fish from them was when one of my angelfish turned on his tank mates while they were all still quarter sized and a second time when one of the stocking guys dropped a fish on the floor. It passed later. The other thing I like about this place is that the used equipment they have collected is always for sale. It's nice to not have to ask to see it or wait until a specific day each month. read more

I would give this place negative stars if I could. This store is absolutely disgusting. They have 3 chickens in a small guinea pig cage on the floor. About 30 birds crammed into a small cage. Atleast 2-3 dead fish in every tank while the other fish looked like they were on the verge of dying. The tanks are all very over crowded. Everything is extremely overpriced. What broke my heart the most was the condition of the axolotls that they have. They're in an extremely tiny tank, extremely skinny, warm water (they require cold water) and no oxygen. The older ones have ammonia burn and there gills were all curled which shows they're stressed. This place needs shut down. All of those poor animals deserve better. read more

This place is a gem in the city of pittsburgh. When you go out looking for animals like fish you want to see something different. Sure the Petsmarts and Petcos have fish but not like this place. There's such a wide variety of fish from both salt and freshwater. Best thing is they are less expensive than their corporate counterparts! It really has been amazing finding this place as it gives me a new found interest in marine wildlife. Will be back frequently to see the new stock that comes in every couple days. Always something new to look at (and usually buy). With friendly and helpful staff i'd recommend Aqua-World to anyone looking for fish or other small animals! read more

The reptiles and fish are mostly in reasonably clean - if overcrowded - conditions, but the tiny dirty hamster cage at the back of the store says everything you need to know about this establishment. There were approximately twelve hamsters in a twenty gallon long tank, from juveniles to breeding size adults, and including at least one hairless newborn. I alerted an employee who responded by roughly pushing the hamsters out of the crowded corner the baby was in, and leaving it there saying "it's not worth taking it out." I implore you: DO NOT support a business that treats any animals like this. read more

This place is one of the better aquarist stores in the burgh. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Their selection is second to none. They have a host of supplies and carry name brand items like Seachem and API. If you walk around the store, the one thing you won't see is sick or dead fish. With that said, I have no problems with any of the fish I purchase here. After trying other fish stores and having high mortality rates despite supposed rave reviews, this is the one I keep going back to. read more

They are pretty friendly for giving free water tests. I bought two koi and they died. They were acclimated properly and they gave me a water test to see why. My water was high in quality so they questioned my dead koi. I brought my receipt and my water sample, but they needed the dead fish, which I didn't want to smell up my car. In the mean time I had them in a cookie container aside my pond fence. They wouldn't replace the fish without the dead old fish, but when I waited until the next day to come to Aqua-World after work and the fish had been gone. I guess a raccoon or bird ate them, so based on their policy, I sadly lost out on about 20$ in koi.... but I got a free water test though. My water issues were resolved and the only issue is having hard water. read more

This store has a very impressive collection of fish and other exotic pets. I actually sometimes get the creeps when I'm looking around because some of the fish look like they swam out of Satan's fish tank and somehow ended up in Pittsburgh. I've never seen anything like it. I also enjoy looking at the beautiful salt water tanks and plants. They literally have something for everyone, whether you're just starting out with a goldfish or you're in the market for a $1,000 fish. The staff is also super knowledgeable and friendly. They are experts who are clearly passionate about their field. I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

Honestly I was pretty excited about this place after looking at the current reviews but upon stepping through the door I was EXTREMELY disappointed, overall is was very very dirty. With every step I became more and more disgusted at the conditions these animals have to endure, they have a wide variety but there are sick fish everywhere. Most of the snakes are cramped and neglected (not to mention very cold) the reticulated python is in horrid conditions with no water, multiple exposed screws and nails in tank, and a super small tank for such a large creature. The owners and employees are either very overloaded or they just don't care, either way there is a definite case of animal cruelty happening here. DO NOT support this place. It's pretty sad that the Petco I went to directly after took better care of their animals than this place, that tells me no one here actually cares about these creatures. read more

This axolotl came from your store the day this picture was taken. It has been seriously neglected. It is malnourished almost to the point of death and it's gills have been all but destroyed by what is most likely very poor water conditions. The local authorities need to investigate anywhere where ANY animal is found in this shape. read more

I've been to this shop many times and just love the large selection of fish. I've never gotten a sick fish from this store. (still quarantine) The fish here are very high quality. I bought two hillstream loaches which I've had for over a year. I bought a small blood parrot that has the most amazing markings. He is just way more beautiful than any of the others that I bought elsewhere. I brought home 6 otocinclus, they are all still alive and well. I waited to write a review to see how my fish would do over time. I've still got every single fish I bought from this store. I am very impressed. I will continue to make the long drive from WV to get good-quality fish from this location! read more

You should be ashamed of yourselves for the reptiles that you sell. Word to the wise never purchase a reptile from this establishment. We learned a little too late that that this business is known for purchasing reptiles from reptile expos that are close to death or being sold because they are no good for anything other than feeders for other animals. Then they resell them as pets! If only I would have questioned more why I was given a deal on taking both geckos instead of one. I was told a story about an animal they took in because of it being neglected. We are sold a male an a female gecko who both had stick tail. (They quickly became thin after a few days in a to the letter enclosure, and care). Thank you for breaking a little girls heart having to euthanatize the animals after having them for a month. You are monsters and deserve to loose your business! read more

Two weeks ago I accidentally broke the brace in my 50 gallon fish tank. That left me in quite a dilemma the fish tank is a bow front which isn't rare but most stores do not stock them so just buying one and replacing it wasn't all that easy. I found Aqua-World online and called. They were very helpful in helping me to replace my fish tank. The tank that I had was no longer available but they were able to find one that wasn't quite as tall as mine and a few gallons less making it possible for me to use the stand from my previous fish tank. I got what I thought was a very reasonable price for the fish tank and due to the fact that I'm disabled i hired them to deliver it and swap out the old fish tank with the new one. I scheduled the delivery time and date with Jeffrey and he called that morning and actually was able to come sooner than expected. He and his coworker did a phenomenal job setting up the new fish tank. They took excellent care of all of the fish and they were careful with their equipment and their process so they did not make a mess in my home. They cleaned up when they were finished and even clean the glass on the fish tank. Just as if I had been doing it myself. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. They offer full service for aquarium maintenance and setup. I have been to the store one time and was absolutely amazed at the variety of things that they offer. They have all the hard to find bits and pieces that you need to make your hobby complete. They were very professional about the job that they did today, I couldn't have been happier. This is the best place in the area to get your fish. I had previously bought glofish from a different company and did not understand why they were dying off when my water parameters were perfect and they were being fed the right amount. After describing the behavior and such of my fish to a young employee, he informed me that they probably had an internal parasite and recommended a product to get rid of it. A week later and my last remaining fish was back to health and swimming around like normal. I wish we had gone to this store to begin with. TI came back to get 6 more fish for my 20 gallon, and they seem to be active and healthy. We were also happy when the employee had remembered us and inquired how our fish was doing. I highly recommend this store for its professional, educated, and friendly staff as well as their quality, healthy fish. Their prices are a couple dollars above larger chains, but it is 100% worth the small upcharge for fish that are not infected and sickly. Thank you for your help! read more

While the staff seem knowledgeable and friendly, the condition of the store and live products received is enough for me not to return.

This store is the place to get coral frags in Pittsburgh. Every week there are new frags and large coral colonies, too. All of the tanks (and there are many of them) are very well maintained. The stock is in constant movement, probably because of their excellent prices and the fact that they do their own fragging. Where else can you get a 10 zoanthid head frag or a small ricordea for $5? Or a significantly larger version for $15? These are online prices....if I'm being kind to online prices. The staff is helpful and friendly. I have to mention their hours.....10a to 10p every day....including Sunday. Yeah I said Sunday. read more
