Took my mini poodle here to be spayed. Very easy process from start to finish. Had to leave a voicemail request to schedule her spay, but I was called back within a couple weeks. It does take a bit to hear back, especially for dogs, because they only do a few appointments a week - Please be patient, it's worth it! The staff put me at ease with her spay. They told me weeks in advance what the check in/ pickup process was, and the fees were extremely reasonable compared to the vet. When I picked her up she had a cone on and some medicine to take home. Nurses gave me post-surgery guidelines to follow. Within a week, my little sweetie was back to normal!!

I went to Animal Friends on 9/18/24 to adopt another dog since my last dog passed on 8/12. I saw two dogs on this day, catwoman and valley. I ended up adopting Valley because she is perfect. Animal Friends is my go-to place. The staff are friendly and so are the volunteers.

I had a little bit of time on my hands so I decided to stop here and check out the animals. I was very happy to see that all the cats have the option between wet and dry food available to them. They all had a cushioned bed and a toy as well. The kittens were super cute and playful! Unfortunately the dog adoption center was not open when I visited, so I included a picture of the hours of that. The retail store was also not open today and is only open on Sunday's, Wednesday's and Friday's. The whole building was clean and seemed to be well staffed. Overall I had a great experience seeing the different animals up for adoption!

Personally took care of us when we arrived. We had gotten our 1st family cat from Animal Friends 20 yrs ago and unfortunately he passed away. We were very sad and wasn't sure we were ready to get a new one. They were so attentive & very caring! We ended up with two.

They really are excellent in caring for our animals. Animal Friends' flaw is having enough people to respond to telephone calls.

In mid-December, my husband found an English bulldog named Olive on the Petfinder website. On…read moreFoster Farm's website, I filled out an application to adopt Olive. The application asked questions about our employment, housing, any fences, how we would give the dog exercise and other necessary things, our current pets and their veterinarian records, any experience that we have with this dog breed, if we have ever given up any past pet, etcetera. I spent time to write many thoughtful paragraphs of text. Two days later, the Foster Farm contacted me and said that they wanted me to adopt Olive, pending my answer about an invisible fence (which they do NOT allow). (I read other Yelpers' 1-star reviews about filling out applications and never hearing back. The Foster Farm is run by volunteers who have jobs or are in school, so they are low on time, but they should get back to you.) On that same day, they approved my application for Olive, and they scheduled my husband's and my first meet-and-greet/adoption with Olive for a few days later at our request to fit our schedule. In the meantime, the Foster Farm answered our questions via email about what size of collar and carrier to buy, what type of food to buy, etc., so we could shop in advance. They also emailed me photos of Olive. The adoption fee was $325, which was supposed to include vaccinations (DAPP and rabies), a microchip, deworming, and a future spay. Payment options were PayPal, Venmo, or a check. On December 22, a Foster Farm employee drove out to our house with Olive. She wore a face mask as a COVID-19 precaution. She allowed us to spend time with Olive on our couch, and she spent time to answer our questions before she left. I am deducting one star from my review, because the Foster Farm gave us *NO MEDICAL RECORDS.* I asked for medical records multiple times, particularly for the vaccines, and they said that they did not have them. The Foster Farm had told me that they would pay for a clinic to do Olive's rabies vaccine, which was included in the adoption fee, but the clinic for some reason did not do the rabies vaccine. With ZERO medical records for Olive other than for the spaying, I paid my veterinarian to do ALL vaccinations from scratch. The clinic did scan a microchip and give me the number at my request. In addition, the Foster Farm had told me that they had dewormed Olive, but when I took Olive to my veterinarian for a fecal test, the test came back positive for intestinal parasites, and I paid my vet to deworm Olive. Maybe the Foster Farm had dewormed the dog, but she contracted parasites again from other dogs in different foster homes or when she was adopted by another family? Olive is a very nervous dog who needs to be housetrained, but she has a very sweet personality, and she gets along with our cats (yay!). I think that the Foster Farm placed her into the right home, and their fee of $325 for a bulldog was very reasonable. For those reasons, I will award 4 stars. But I do recommend that the Foster Farm pass along vaccination records.

This was by far the dirtiest and most disgusting place I have ever been to…read more I called ahead and specifically asked if they had kittens younger than 4-5 months old. They told me they did. I then asked how many, and they told me they had 17 kittens in that age range. I drove 55 minutes to get there because I was coming from far away. When I arrived, I reminded them that I had called earlier and asked again if all those kittens were available. They said yes. Then they told me I had to pay $10 just to see them. Excited to finally choose my kitten, I paid the fee and went in. To my surprise, there were only three actual kittens around 3-4 months old. Every other cat they showed me was 8, 9, 10 months old or even older. When I asked where the 17 kittens were that they told me about on the phone, they pointed at those older cats and claimed those were the kittens. They looked me straight in the eye and lied. I asked several times before paying because I didn't want to waste my time. They assured me they had them. Only after taking my money did they show me what was really there. I stayed for about two minutes, realized I had been misled, and left. It's not even about the $10. It's about being lied to and wasting almost two hours of driving time. Absolutely terrible experience. I would not recommend anyone waste their time or money here.

The litter boxes are, for the most part, tucked in one corner of the room. Some of the cats were social and wanted attention. Unfortunately, we witnessed a few cats who clearly did not want to there. I was going to another vet in the city and getting charged $95 just for being seen for 10 minutes. The tech fee is half of that here. There's a large parking lot. And they're quick. My dog has come here for her regular vaccines, the vaccine clinics, her annuals, and when she's not feeling well. I've had a few administrative issues with email/contact information so that could use a little work. Otherwise, I love coming here. I can't say the same for my dog, because every time she comes she has to step on a scary scale and/or get poked. But this is to be expected!

This location in the East Side of Pittsburgh has a veterinary center and a shelter and also offers obedience training classes. In the past several years, I have visited this HARP many times. In 2015, I adopted two cats from the shelter (for details, please see my previous review below). These two cats still happily live with my family and me. Most recently, I donated several bags of pet supplies to this shelter. HARP collects new and gently used pet supplies for Ellie's Attic, which then gives the supplies to families who have pets and are financially struggling. I dropped off dog beds, cat beds, dog bowls, disposable diapers, a sweater, a training bell, etcetera. I placed the bags near the entrance inside the building. An employee at the front desk kindly thanked me for my donation and asked if I needed a donation receipt. Next, I asked the employee if I could visit the dogs who are available for adoption. Unfortunately, the dogs could not be visited on that day, but I was allowed to view a binder that contained printed descriptions of the dogs. I did visit the cats, and I felt pleased with the size and cleanliness of their cages.
