    Placky an Goldy!
    Kelly W.

I love their fish! I've gotten many fish from here and they have a beautiful bunch of Tanks! You can do saltwater or freshwater whatever your preference! They have a fish called a kooli loach that I always look forward to and they're hard to find, a snakelike/lizard looking fish! I lost my tank, it gave up on me! So in a hurry, I took both my placostima fish that I had for a few years and my Gold fish named Goldy, and put them in a bucket, took them to Aqualand and they said they would take care of them for me an give them good homes! As I stood in tears (ya I know over some fish) I thanked them, gave them some fish food and shrimp pellets for Placky my placostima! I left extactly relieved! !! Thank you, Aqualand, your lifesavers!!!!

Our first visit to Wild Birds Unlimited was a good one, as staffer Alder (recent Iowa State grad)…read moremade the whole experience positive and rewarding. Plenty of parking, and their great interior makes for a warm and inviting visit. Their stock is well-displayed, uncluttered, and priced well. We appreciate Alder's awareness and knowledge. Join their club to receive discounts and information, and they provide a lot of information on their website and inside their store.

Well! Talk about your "all you can bird" store. This place is literally a bird-lovers emporium…read more Whether you like to feed birds and watch them eat, just enjoy going on bird hikes and identifying birds, or just well, like birds and enjoy having them on your decor, puzzles, mugs, etc., this is going to be the place for you. This is NOT a place to purchase pet birds or cages/etc. for birds. Wild Birds Unlimited is located in a smaller-ish strip mall over by Dutch Oven Bakery and the Kum-And-Go. Pretty easy to find once you've been there. The first thing you'll notice when you park during the warmer months is the sound of birds. Not only does Wild Birds Unlimited have bird feeders outside, but it looks like they've helped some of their neighboring businesses get into it, so there's lots of little bird calls around. It made me smile. Once you go inside, you're going to be met by a LOT of bird-related merchandise. There's a ton of bird feeders and bird baths of different varieties and styles including lots of different hanging mounts and mechanisms to work with your home. There is just as much choices for seeds. They offer huge bags as well as smaller bags. They include mixes as well as single-seed options for food. If you're more on the "bird watcher" side, they offer a ton of field guides, binoculars, and lots of CDs to help you ID various bird calls. If you're a hobbyist who just really loves birds, they have a ton of birding gifts. You can buy mugs, bookmarks, washclothes, stuffed animals, door mats, etc. The store feels a bit crowded with merchandise - closer to the size of a smaller mall-type location, but as it doesn't seem like they're usually swamped with people, this works out fine for me. It's a bit tight, but it definitely gives you a lot of stuff to look at on every glance. The staff here was super friendly - and knowledgeable! They don't seem to just be random university teens who work here - they seem to be people who are passionate (or just were well-taught) about birds and birding. They were happy to give me recommendations about the food I wanted to buy as well as recommended what I should look for if I wanted something new or how to attract specific types of birds. Great little store. I came away with a bit more knowledge, the bird food I wanted, and I'll definitely be back. I'm impressed.

UPDATED REVIEW: We…read moreare updating our original review because, after sharing our concerns, the Director of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Cates, personally reached out to us and completely changed our experience with the ARL. Our original experience after adopting our 11-week-old kitten, Lola, was heartbreaking and extremely frustrating. When we adopted her, we were not informed that she had been spayed the day before, and we received little to no communication about her surgery, recovery, activity restrictions, incision care, warning signs, or follow-up care. Just two days after bringing her home, she developed a noticeable limp and an extremely high fever, which resulted in multiple veterinary visits and significant concern for her health. We were especially frustrated by our initial experience when we brought Lola back to the ARL for follow-up care. At the time, we struggled to get updates about her condition and felt like we were left in the dark about what was happening with our kitten. However, we want to recognize that Dr. Cates took our concerns seriously and stepped in to make sure Lola received the care she needed. She personally reached out to us, kept us updated over multiple days, called us with updates, answered our questions, and made sure Lola received appropriate veterinary care. Most importantly, Dr. Cates provided the care and attention that ultimately helped get Lola healthy again. We do still wish this level of care and communication had been provided from the beginning, particularly on Friday when Lola was first brought back to the ARL for follow-up. We wish we hadn't needed to leave a negative review in order for our concerns to be heard and for this level of communication to happen. That being said, we appreciate Dr. Cates reaching out, listening to our concerns, and following through with Lola's care. We are very thankful to say that Lola is doing much better. We hope the ARL can take what happened as an opportunity to improve communication with adopters. Complications can happen, and we understand that. What matters is making sure adopters are informed, supported, and included in their pet's care.

Then the cops called the ARL the lady's last name was Oswalt and she acted very rude yelling at me when I was trying to explain what was going on.
