Today the high winds up there swirled snow and clouds almost vertically. To the right in this view is Longs Peak in RMNP. To the left is the Indian Peaks Wilderness area due west of Boulder. You might not use this this approach to Boulder on a weekday commute in when it will likely be bumper to bumper going very slow for several miles. And a bit dangerous with snow and ice and high winds at ground level. But on a beautiful clear dry winter day, it is classic and how so many people see Boulder for the very first time.

This trail connects up to many other trails within the Boulder trails network, such as the Bobolink trail and many others. I didnt see any parking other than along the street by the entrance gate, but this trail run into other trailheads that offer small but free parking lots.

I did not bring my phone because the trail is a little over a mile, so did not capture the full beauty. Ironically, it is man's intervention which makes it look natural. There is ugly metal fencing bordering the creek, reservoir, and farm land. In part to contain invasive species. From a distance, it does not mar the view. It is odd that people were swimming in the reservoir, and it is clearly bordering private land. Sadly, it does not look like there is public access. I visited after work, and when I headed back to my car the lot was completely full. I was the only person without a dog. It has become the local dog park. Probably because of the fencing, and it is very flat so Fido can be spotted from afar. The beginning of the trail has powerlines, but when you reach the loop it opens up and very sunny. Glad I stopped but probably won't return because it is so short.

Love this little dog park in Broomfield! It's very close to the mall, so it's easy to fit a visit…read morein with some shopping and dining. It's off the beaten path and fairly quiet. I love the location, alongside a marshy area with lots of light, fresh plants and shade. There's a nice short loop to walk, and some facilities around as well. The other dogs were friendly and my dog had fun walking around the path. There was a bit of water around but that's usually normal after snow. Great stop for a quick break or play time!

The day started at union station and for awhile did not know if the guide was going to show up…read more When time came, two guides popped out, split people into two group and led us to the van. PRO TIP: try avoiding the most back row if you have long legs or any stress with mobility. Because once you sit there, the seat is assigned and you will have to deal with being cramped in a tighter space. And you basically are always the last one to get off. This was one of the biggest cons. Moving on, the tour itself was great. We stopped by a cafe on the way to and back, for food and bathroom breaks, and pretty soon, the van took us to the Rocky Mountain with beautiful views and even saw many wildlife - the big horn sheep, elk, deer (i think), and, not to forget, smaller animals like birds, mouse, and chipmunks, but no moose spotted. Nonetheless, the breathtaking view of the Rockies is certainly worth the journey. The guide was very knowledgeable about trees and shared many stories about the places and tips for visiting Denver in general! She also took us to a few Native American owed stores that featured indigenous art that were very cool to see. One thing to note is that I think the Colorado Sightseer, the tour company, had listed at least two slightly different itineraries, and I might have been sent to the one I did not pick. I noticed because I intentionally picked the tour with visits to two visitor centers, vs the one I went on only took us to Beaver Meadows. Not a big deal bc I did get still get my stamp, and the tour used most of the day's time efficiently by visiting many attractions. But this might be something you want to make sure if the stops matter a lot to you. Nonetheless, with a group tour, it is understandable and expected for the itinerary to potentially change. For instance, the day I went, the tour guide actually too us to visit places in different order to avoid crowds. Another thing to really appreciate is that the tour provided some snacks, extra gloves/beanies, which were really a lifesaver in the cold mountains. I know I was not fully prepared for it and so glad I could borrower some!

See the mountains during the day or the lights of the city by night. The road is completely paved, but narrow for 2 lanes in some spots. Wind up the switchbacks and feel the change in air pressure as your ears pop. The lookout points are part of the Boulder City Open Space and Mountain park, so if your vehicle is not registered in Boulder County you will need to purchase a parking permit for the parking spaces at these lookout points. Daily permits are only $5 and can be purchased online at bit.ly/parkosmp. There are also pay envelopes and drop boxes if you'd rather pay in cash. It's an honor system and the funds go to the upkeep of the areas. The place isn't as well known, so it's much less touristy, and there are no massive crowds to compete with.
