Nestled in the heart of industrial Nimitz Hwy is this oasis of calm... the bubbling of the tanks soothes the soul as your eyes wander over the beauty captured in the various tanks that fill the shop. Aquascapes, paludariums and terrariums and anything else you could possibly need for them! You can tell that the owners take pride in their tanks, as each tank is like a living piece of art. Whether they are the lush plant filled tanks that fish playfully swim through or tanks with carnivorous plants mixed with other plants, they are colorful, multi-textured and so intriguing to look at! My favorite is the paludarium with the mist that gently whispers across the water.. so very peaceful! They also do customs so be sure to inquire if you see something you'd like! read more

I thought it would be a great idea to set up a little aquarium for my fur baby. The more I researched, the more I was drawn towards Aquascaping, which is basically creating a natural looking landscape for your aquarium. So off I went to multiple pet stores to find plants to create my aquatic oasis! But to my disappointment, many of the pet stores just didn't have the selection or the quality of aquatic plants I was looking for. I was just about to settle on buying aquatic plants that looked at least alive until I came across Aquascapes in a Google search. After watching a couple of YouTube videos that featured their store, I decided to pay them a visit the next day. MEET THE OWNER The store itself is not very large, but had the 2 most important items I was looking for, quality aquatic plants & freshwater fish. Upon entrance we were greeted immediately by the store owner, Rina. Luckily, no other customers were present when we arrived. So I took full advantage of this opportunity to ask her advice on starting my small, aquascaping aquarium. Rina first asked me what I had in mind and what I already purchased. Then she guided me to what I needed in order to succeed with my new found hobby. She was incredibly detailed and patient and realistic with expectations knowing I was a complete novice. I appreciated that. WHAT I PURCHASED So Rina started me small with only purchasing a few plants and the highly recommended Amazonia substrate - one of the many materials you could use for the bottom of your aquarium. I was skeptical at first to buy the Amazonia substrate since it was more costly than other available substrates sold in other stores. But after Rina explained how Amazonia provides needed nutrients to the plants to promote growth and in her own experience has lasted up to 10 years without replacement, I was sold! Plus their Amazonia comes from Japan where quality is known to be top knotch. So she gave me some guided instructions on how to set up my tank and showed me what fishes would thrive with the limited space I had available. We finished my purchase just in time as another eager set of customers entered the door. OVERALL THOUGHTS I highly recommend giving this store a try, especially if you're looking for a variety of quality, aquatic plants and freshwater fish. And even if you are not in the market to start a new hobby like I am (all for the love of my cat lol), I still recommend stopping by. Not only do they provide a wealth of information within their speciality, but they have amazing displays of different aquascapes and freshwater fish that rival saltwater fish in beauty! And I love knowing that my purchase supports a local owned company. I will be back soon to pick up my fur baby's tiny, but mighty soon-to-be aquatic friends. Discovered this amazing fish store behind Eagle Cafe on Nimitz. I was really blown away at their shop! Like a dream come true for someone getting into natural aquariums with plants! Very nice selection of fish I never saw before. Super exotic, healthy, clean, and various sizes. Even really small kine look like hatchlings. They have a ton of driftwood and rocks too. The shop isn't very big I hope they expand. More of a store for fish and plants vs supplies, food, and equipment. We shall return!!! read more

I really want to like this place since there aren't too many places on the island to go for aquascapes. Not only are the items here overpriced, but customer service sucks. Don't expect the aloha spirit from the man that works here. Every time I've been here he seems annoyed. Since I came to Hawaii last yr I started the hobby and have reasonable questions on things to purchase and improve my aquarium. He seems very uninterested and irritated every time. I have bought my fish from this business in the past but I can't continue to come here and accept the poor quality of customer service here anymore. read more

This place is hidden so GPS is recommended. Parking is limited so plan accordingly. By far the most cleanness, organized, and beautiful-representation aquatic store I've ever seen. The care and love is not in question here. They have a huge selection of fish and aquatic plants, the store is beautifully decorated, plants are luscious with a healthy green hue, and the aquariums are crystal clear. Some of the fish have no price labeling so I had trouble determining what was for sale and what wasn't, marketing idea maybe? Requiring you ask, but if you're shy like me, I'd rather read labels. I've been searching for shell dwellers (Multis) for a while and they did have them (possibly the only store to have them) but they were too expensive for me to especially if your getting a lot of them, so I didn't get them. This store has a great selection of healthy aquatic plants and lots of driftwood and stones for your planted tank! You can even test out how they will look in your tank, on their table that is covered with gravel. The tanks were very clean, and the fishes looked comfortable and healthy. I ended up getting some stones and a really nice piece of driftwood for my betta! The woman who helped me during my visit was very knowledgeable about caring for plants and aquariums. read more

Just by chance, I wandered into this most beautiful freshwater aquarium store that felt like I was in an entirely different and enchanted world! Every year I end up calling Aquascapes for a gift certificate for my nephew because they are the only fish store that is actually capable of doing it over the phone. Saves me the trouble of driving down there. I just pay in the phone and they mail it to me. I don't know why other stores can't get that simple transaction together so that they can profit from the Black Friday rush of shoppers doing their shopping from home. Call me lazy, but I'm gonna keep calling them because they're so pleasant on the phone and never make me feel bad for being so lazy. lol read more

I recently had the urge to start another aquarium, now 15 years older, I would the option of designing a tank with everything I've always wanted. I've always admired the natural planted tanks I would see at my dentist's office and the one in the mayor's office. Aquascapes seemed to be the type of specialty shop an enthusiast or hobbyist would visit to inquire about learning about their craft. To me, these aquariums set ups are works of art. I was hoping for a little guidance on creating this in my home. My conversation was with I assume the owner. To make a long story short, setting up a tank like the ones in this store would cost a minimum of $2,000. My $1,600 that I thought would get me started simply was not enough. Not being familiar with ADA, probably made the guy here disregard me. I was hoping that a tank could be created for $1600 and then a maintenance contract could be made for them to upkeep the tank. I figured $400 each month would cover this service. But I guess I was wrong. Guess I had better start saving if I want a beautiful tank like the ones here. read more

Stopped by yesterday 8/18/2020, Tuesday at 4:30pm, place not open as stated on Yelp hours that said it was updated 2 week ago. When I googled the open hours, seems like Googles time of 3pm closing is more in line than 6:00pm closing time stated by Yelp. Just wondering who can go between the hours of 10:00am-3:00pm weekdays, only the people not working or retired. Why not open at 4:30pm - 8:30pm for the working people as a suggestion. read more

Possibly the best aquarium store i've been to on this island. The owners are really nice and very knowledgable about what they do. I started a new aquarium not too long ago and went to Aquascapes to see what all the talk was about. When you walk in, you're greeted by a giant puffer on the right side of the door and a bunch of beautiful planted tanks on the left. The shop itself isn't too big but they carry a wide variety of different fish. All of the fish were still small (more room to grow!!) unlike all the other big name stores and they were all very healthy and active. I ended up purchasing 3 cardinal tetras and a salt and pepper cory from here and they are the highlight of my tank. I will definitely come back for more fish after my tank settles a little more! read more

In the beginning of the year I decided to start an aquarium after many, many years. I wanted to attempt something a little more ambitious -a heavily planted aquarium with endlers, shrimp, and some catfish. Endlers can be jumpers so shortly after acquiring them I went down to City Mill and had a custom screen made for the top of the tank. While waiting there, I started talking to a gentleman. I told him why I was there and he asked me where I got my fish. I told him and his immediate response was a very passionate "Go to Aquascapes! Their fish LIVE!" He told me how healthy their fish were and how he had even had some corys breed in his community tank. After some tank drama, I decided to check-out Aquascapes and I am so thankful that I did. First, both Rina and JoJo are exceptionally informative, patient, and enthusiastic. Second, their store is beautiful. Every fish, plant, shrimp, and axotls are healthy, vibrant, and living their best life. I have gone in several times and each and every time Rina and Jojo have given me great advice on how to add fish, which fish will get along, and what plants will thrive in my tank. Listening to them in the short amount of time I have been going to Aquascapes has resulted in a thriving, healthy aquarium. read more

My friend started aquascaping and it looked very interesting and wanted to make one for my kids. So he told me about this spot. I went in today excited to ask questions on how to start my aquascape tank and automatically regreted it. The man that works there greeted me but just stood there and didnt ask me if I needed help. A lady then came out and asked me if I needed help so I began to ask questions. She replied to all my questions condescendingly and that turned me off right away. If a customer comes in, that person wont know what to buy right away but she acted like I knew everything which wasnt the case. So I walked away from her and turned to the man hoping itll be a different result, he was just as rude, I dont know if they were owners or what but they lack customer service, if they dont like answering questions then they need to quit and look for a job that doesnt require that. I came here hoping to get some things but found it closed. Finally got a day off to head over to Aquascapes this morning. I was greeted by the store owner who was right in the middle of setting up a new tank. I was trying not to bug him too much but to my surprise he was super friendly and more than willing to answer all the questions I had about what I was looking for. They have a insane selection of very healthy fish and the tank setups are pristine. If your ever visiting Oahu or on town side I highly recommend stopping by and checking them out. I ended up walking out a little lighter in the wallet with a gigantic smile on my face. The store owner even carried out two bags of Amazonia substrate to the car for me. This fish store is located off of Nimitz behind New Eagle Cafe. The owners are really nice people who are very knowledgeable and bring in quality fish and products. Their prices might be a little higher than other fish stores but it is worth it as the quality of their stock is very good. They usually carry fish that other stores might not bring in regularly. Parking is always available and they are closed on Sundays. read more

My favorite LFS because of the service, selection, and great help. They are always so helpful when I go in whether it be about fish selection or help with my planted tank. Their plant selection is great and everything is kept very healthy. The fish are healthy and they have species you sometimes won't find at other stores. Jojo told me that he buys what he wants so that's why he has some interesting fish I've never seen at other LFS. It can be pricey sometimes but my visits are usually 30 Mins or more because I'm talking story and getting helpful tips on what my next project is. I think having a good rapport with your LFS owners and employees is important because they'll know your tank from talking to you and can help you avoid a catastrophe! Always be open to advice because if they own a fish store with healthy fish, they're obviously doing SOMETHING right. :) If you want help starting a planted tank, go to them. They have all the knowledge to get you started. Like I said, it's a little pricey but their selection of plants, hardscape materials, and fish is pretty awesome. Check em out! They might scam you on the soil. The plants they offer are all really high quality and the fish are too you can tell they take care of them but they will scam you a bit with the soil and have you buy more than you really need. Overall still a good store though. read more

Workers were rude and lacked basic customer service skills. Great assortment of fish and plants but workers do not assist customers respectfully. Instead of giving constructive criticism and informing the customers... the workers took on rude tones and looked down on costumers who asked for information. I will not be returning to this store, I went there for information on what I could improve in my tank but instead was looked down on and not provided the information I was looking for.
