Kalihi Pet Center is a locally owned pet store. We came here for the koi fish food. They sell it in smaller bags than where we normally buy it from. I guess this is good too so their food remains fresh. The store is a bit tight for many customers visiting all at once but they have a good selection for any pets including fishes, dogs, cats, turtles and birds. There were no staffs in the front when we walked in but definitely had lots of customers. Some looked happy just looking at the dogs waiting to be taken home. I wish I can have one too but I can't afford their price. I guess not anytime soon ;) They are open everyday. Monday to Friday beginning at 9:00 am till 7:00 pm. Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. What amazes me is that the store is kept cleaned even if they have pets! Whether is the fish tanks or the dogs cages. This is a plus! They sell a plethora of live animals here. They sell everything from fishes, turtles, birds, reptiles to puppies. They also have everything that you would need for your pet such as clothes, toys, food and medicine. I came here to get a catfish $7.99. I needed a bottom feeder to eat all the leftover food on the bottom of my tank. I found the fish I wanted. I motioned for one of the workers to help me. He scooped up one of the catfishes, pumped air into the bag and walked me to the checkout. Before I picked out my fish, I took a look at the puppies. They have the cutest puppies. I saw one that I seriously wanted. It was gray with blue eyes. It was a mix of Yorkshire Terrier and Pomeranian for $3499. The price was a little high for a dog that's not pure breed. I still would have bought it except for the fact that I need someone to walk him every morning and night to pick up the poop. That's my one deterrent. I asked the hubby if he would do it and he gave me the side eye, lol. read more

Pop's goldfishes had gone to goldfish heaven, and the worst part about all of this is those goldfishes he had purchased from another pet store in Kahala, he just had purchased them like two or three months ago. Aiyah! Pops was missing his goldfish, so he was badgering me to pick up more goldfish. I didn't want to go back to the pet store in Kahala, so the other night when I was having dinner with my homie in Mililani, I decided to stop by the Pet Hale only to find out that the business was no longer there (insert Sad Panda face). My 2nd stop was to check out the Mililani Walmart, only to find out Walmart no longer sells fish too. My homie - Gary T. then mentions to me about a pet store in Kalihi, and that is how I ended up at the Kalihi Pet Center. Where is the Kalihi Pet Center located? You can find this cool pet store at the City Square Shopping center, the same complex where Sugoi's, Kamehameha Bakery, & Pancakes and Waffle BLD is located. I flew over to purchase a bonded pair of Green Singer Finches to be companions to my new rescue/rehab fledgling female. Came in here to buy crickets for my Jackson chameleon. $4 for 20. There is so much pet supplies in this place. I can't imagine you would need to go anywhere else. It is jammed pack with all your pet will ever need. Friendly service too. If I'm in the area again I would come back. This is a great place to find puppies, exotic birds and fish. I got the cutest quail here. The staff is helpful and really know pet information. They have the most unique birds on Oahu. Look far into the bird cages in the back and there are some rare birds which are very expensive. I enjoy buying toys for my pet here. I was on a mission to find a lutino cockatiel and they finally posted them in stock on ig so i went down and picked one. Its a lot cleaner than all of the other local pet stores i checked out and they have a huge variety of birds. The older guy working there seems to care a lot about the animals and he gave me some pointers on some do's and donts when trying to build trust with a new bird. Really nice guy. He was extremely gentle while bringing the bird out of its cage and into a carrier for me. Cockatiel was $200. They also clip the wings for free and recommended bringing it in once a month for a free clipping (if youre into that). read more

My family used to come here for our pets. We got our fish, tortoise, and pet supplies but we may not support after getting a axolotl. We got there at 4:57pm, which we thought was enough time to grab the one axolotl but when we looked & tried to open the door someone was holding the door. They stated they were closed. I looked at the time and it was 4:58pm. They then asked what we're looking for. I told them "One axolotl for my daughter's birthday" They said "oh, we got allot. Just come tomorrow." As they walked away at 5pm. My daughter's face dropped & was on the verge of tears. I've been in retail for over 20 years & yes, I wanted to lock up the store & clock out when the store closes but not hold the door closed till closing time. I'm very disappointed. read more

While getting a haircut, my stylist told me she saw some little puppies at Kalihi Pet Center and if you know me, then you know little dogs are my jam. Told hubs about it, and on a Sunday afternoon, we took a drive to KPC. I knew they usually had fish, birds, and small animals, so when I heard puppies, we made our way to the back of the shop to see what they had in stock. There were 3 puppies, all small breeds, top crate were siblings Chihuahua Terrier mix, and the lower crate was a chocolate Yorkie/Chihuahua...aka "Chorkie". Of course, hubs falls in love with the little chorkie and now she has a new forever home. They gave us her file, so we had her first shot records, and they offer a free wellness with Kalihi Vet Center on Beretania within 3 days of purchase. The fluffball came with a bag of food, her chew toy, and a couple of hooves and she was ready for her new home. It's been a week, and she is settling in with the rest of the pack. read more

Visited this pet store today, and the store had a lot more animals compared to Petco and PetSmart. They had birds, dogs, tons of fish, and a bunch of products. The aisles are packed though, so it gets a little claustrophobic. I did find a dried up fish on the ground, so a little disturbing. Workers are helpful when questions get asked, which is really helpful when making a life changing decision. Overall 4 stars. read more

Ive always came to this pet store when i was a kid & thats why i take mines here too. We stopped by because my youngest remembered that her dad promised her a pet fish. PARKING: Huge parking but could get busy. SERVICE: When we got there for some reason it was really busy & if you've been here before its a really tight space inside. But the workers are very helpful. My 2 girls chose their fighting fish but also wanted to look around. The workers seen us & asked if we wanted them to start packing them in a bag & brought to the front. They got to choose a little fish container & decoration like rocks or pebbles on the bottom. I loved that they were so helpful in telling us what fish food to buy but which was was the best. Just 1 little advice. Please have another cashier. Just in case your store gets busy & the lines can go much faster. When we were there the line was all the way to the back. Would we come back? Honestly I stumbled in here quite often especially when I was a kid. My dad would always take me here to see the animals. One day I decided to purchase a bunny and it does come with a vet check but at that time we weren't aware about the significance of a vet (my parents are not from here just FYI and they don't have things like that in their hometown). Anyway the bunny passed away a few days after I bought it. I cried! My dad brought me back to the store and they were kind enough to give me a new one. Anyway that bunny lived for quite some time and I loved her even tho she made the house so stink. This was back in the day when they were In some random location. Fast forward to the future. I still come here all the time. Most of the times was to browse around cause they ALWAYS have puppies. No joke. Just go in the back corner and there's some cages in the back. I must admit they are really expensive and they don't come with any papers but then again it is the price to pay for convenience. I mean who really wants to meet some random stranger somewhere else put down a deposit not knowing if you're really getting a puppy in return. I ended up getting my second child here. He's a pure breed long hair doxie. They let me have him on hold for a day longer so I could come in when I finished earlier to bring in my dog to see if they match and they did! They're inseparable now so it was a good choice I waited for the perfect dog like in two years lol. Like I mentioned earlier. They do come with a health screening at Kalihi vet. First things first, beware the parking lot in City Square Shopping Center if you go on a Saturday. There's a Chuck E. Cheese and the Chinese Marketplace along with other big draw establishments like Pancakes and Waffles BLD, Sugoi's, Young's Fish Market, and Kam Bakery so finding parking can be somewhat frustrating. There's a lot of on street (metered) parking that's usually available but people don't use it because parking in the lot is free unlike on the street unless you have an EV car. I'll usually make the trek to City Square for Kalihi Pet Center every month or so for staples (food). FPO has a red eared turtle named Six that she caught as he was running across the slab yard of her old work place and Goldie and Princess (two manly koi who are a lot hardier than their names would indicate). The Repto Min and Rainbow Koi Pellets are cheaper here than other pet stores I've browsed. The people working here are unfailingly friendly and very informative. They've got A LOT of fish and variety of birds. Occasionally I'll see puppies (and kittens) but I won't buy a dog (or cat) from a pet store so it's nice to look at them only. More often I see chickens and chinchillas. For as many animals are there, the place is pretty clean. They've got a wide selection of pet foods, pet accessories, and a great selection of dog clothes that I think are hilarious. It's out of the way for me but always worth the field trip to come to Kalihi Pet Center. read more

We come all the way from central side to buy our pigeon food and racing pigeons here. After my hair appt next door, I ventured into this store. Upon leaving I regret walking in because I fell in love with the mixed black shitzu puppy! I had some questions about her and both guys were as helpful as they could be. I'd love to reserve her but there was no price indicated so I have to check back..the pure shitzu's were priced at $4500. They also had pug puppies for sale. Their fish tanks are ok, there are some really high that you can't even see into. I didn't buy any fish there yet but did stop by for medication and supplies. The medication and water additive selection is better than the big pet stores. For equipment, more selection but not really cheaper for pumps etc. Easy to get in and out of parking lot and no tweakers around which is a plus. Tons of options. That's not the problem. The animals are not stored humanely. Multiple weeks old puppies left in tiny metal cages with a puppy pad constantly. Additionally, the tortoises are stuck in a 1 foot by foot slot with a centimeter thick of bark. No ability to burrow or do anything. One of the box turtles had shell rot as well. No body greet you and acknowledge you and had about 4 people working.. only one guy asked if I needed help and I said no need because I was just looking.. then when I went to pay for my stuff cashier got the pin pad and face towards to me.. but I paid with cash and he couldn't even give my change back nicely... the coins fell and he didn't even bother to say sorry or try to pick up the coins because he was too busy shaking his drink.. I purchased a couple fish that were $30 each. Not even a full week of owning them and they were all infested with a disease called ich. On top of that I had to deal with burying my fish. Beware when you purchase fish from here!!! Also, doesn't seem like any of the employees care too much when a fish jumps out their tank either. It shouldn't take a customer like me to put him back. Tanks are so overcrowded I couldn't find which one it came from. I've purchased a chameleon here awhile ago and he was friendly. Good purchase. Overall, I'd probably only come back for supplies. As for customer service, it needs some work. Communication is close to nonexistent at all. read more
