We (my 14 yr old) and I went on two different dives. One to finish their certification, and the next night we did the manta ray dive. Mary was wonderful with my kid and also took great pics. We saw so much the first day, including dophins, a tiger shark, an eagle ray, frog fish, and an octopus. The dive master pointed out so many animals I would have never noticed. The manta ray dive was amazing and they took care of everything after we got back to the boat. We loved our dive crew and would definitely use them again!

Super awesome! Scuba and snorkel guides were great! Saw mantas, monk seal, and shark!

Incredible dive with Captain Tara, Mary, Dylan, and Aria! We saw humpback whales (in April!), mantas, dolphins, sharks, and more. We'll definitely be back to dive again. Best dive shop in Kona.

    Night manta dive

Ran out four trips with these guys over this past week and to say they helped make our trip to the Big Island a good one is an understatement. My son and I have been diving a lot of places and this is one of our best experiences with a dive operator we have had. They keep the groups small and personal, take the time to ask what everyone on the boat wants to see and try to determine dive sites based on that and are highly safe and professional. Over and above being highly safe and professional they are FUN. If you are around Mary, Tara, Emily, Collin and co and don't have a great time, I question your health to dive because you might not have a pulse. And you won't find anyone more passionate or knowledgeable about fish big and small than Emily, and she will find them for you too.

High energy team led us on a Manta night dive. This tour is perfect if you have a mixed group of seasoned divers, snorkelers, or timid swimmers - as once you get to the manta site you will be lead on the tour of your ability. We booked this last minute so we appreciated the wetsuit & scuba rentals. The tanks & BCDs were on the boat and taken care of for us (talk about bougie diving!!) Our guide Mary went above and beyond in taking care of us both above and below water. I'm not kidding when I say this dive helped my husband fall in love with scuba diving again. We were blessed with a very active night of manta rays - which you need to understand is not guaranteed. This team will do their absolute best for you, and even provide post-dive snacks Be advised it is proper etiquette to tip a minimum $40/ passenger to a boat captain & crew. (15-20% of the total charter) This stands for all boat excursions, not just this tour.

I've been on a manta tour with a different company before, and it was nothing like this one. From initial contact about booking to final goodbyes, all the people of Aquatic Life Divers were accommodating, kind, personable, and so enthusiastic to help out and be doing their jobs. And the show with them was absolutely phenomenal! Truly breathtaking. The boat was about the same size as the other tour I took, but with much fewer people and with a much better show!! Mahalo to Doug for answering all our questions and encouraging us to get out there. Mahalo to our snorkel guide Calypso for taking such amazing care of my mom when she got sick. Calypso was so kind and patient. Even though my mom got sick, she said the tour was still mind-blowing--like one of those wildlife adventure shows. Mahalo to snorkel guide Gordon and Captain Tara for bringing such fun to the experience. Calypso and Gordon even shared some delicious treats with us and gave us extra so our mom could enjoy it later! Ten stars. So happy we booked with ALD, it was so incredibly worth it.

My group was a mix of diver and snorkelers and this was the IDEAL operation for everyone to enjoy the boat ride together to see the manta rays at night! We wore 5mm wetsuits and were plenty warm for our January dive. We got to make an unplanned stop to watch 3 humpbacks on the 20 minute ride to the dive site. Dillon, Honey, and Captain Carlos were fantastic! All of our needs were met, with attention to the finest details to make sure everyone was comfortable. I rented a GoPro and got amazing photos and videos to remember the trip. Grateful to witness 2 manta rays (number can be variable) this trip. They are such beautiful creatures - definitely a "must-do" for a trip to the Big Island. Will definitely book with Aquatic Life Divers next time!

We had an amazing night last night. The team, boat and the Manta Rays were so spectacular. Thank you for a great experience.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Aquatic Life Divers. My wife and I chose them because they were very receptive to our tight schedule needs--we reached out needing for me to complete my Open Water Certification dives and then do the night manta ray dive, while my wife, who already had certification, wanted to join for all the same dives. They immediately responded with a schedule that worked for all of these. As a result, we ended up doing 5 total dives, so got lots of experience. We worked most closely with Emily, John, Mary, and Colin, but had great experiences as well with Dustin, Nicole, Dylan, Carlos, and Caleigh. I want to give a particular shout-out to Emily, who was my instructor for my open water dives and was just wonderful and fun to work with. She has a philosophy that we should complete as many skills as possible on the PADI checklist on the first of 4 dives so that the later dives can just be fun. As a result, I felt that I got a similar experience of aquatic exploration to my wife, who was doing regular dives as an already-certified diver. Emily was thorough, making sure I got my skills down correctly and repeating as necessary, but kept everything SO fun. I got to see beautiful coral structures, amazing fish (most notably getting close up with a shark!) and got to dive down to 60 feet on my last teaching dive. The night manta experience was led by Dylan and was very well organized, with us knowing what to expect and making a night dive seem civilized rather than scary. Seeing the manta rays from the bottom of the ocean is surreal, and something that everyone should experience if they can. What stands out about Aquatic Life Divers to me is that the crew is just so much fun. These seem like people who like each other and like working together, joking around with each other, hanging out, and looking for the best wildlife they can find. We felt welcomed into the crew, included in the jokes and banter, and were treated like friends. They care a lot about what they're doing; we found them "picky" about spots, stopping and testing the current and visibility before letting us in. They're willing to reject a spot and find another if it's not going to be a great experience, which meant we were basically guaranteed a good time. My only constructive criticism would be that I wish they could provide more substantive food for the manta dive. Showing up at 5 and not being done till 8:30 makes finding dinner on the big island hard, as many restaurants close at 9. Some sandwiches before setting out would be great and I've seen other dive groups do this. But other than this, I couldn't wish for anything different and I would happily book with these great people again. Thanks so much Emily! You rock!

Luv Luv Luv this team, Good people Good times. This will be our go to Dive Shop when ever we are back in Kona. Took me on as a last minute diver two days in a row for some local dives as well as a Sunday Morning local and Diving with the Mantas that same night. Highly recommend this Dive Team.

This was my third boat dive with aquatic life divers and they have consistently been wonderful. I love the education they provide prior to dives and the friendly passion they display for the ocean and our experience in it. I would definitely recommend (and have) to all my friends.

Great diving team for a family with a mix of certified, getting certified and introductory ! Marc was an expert dive master and provided so much education on the creatures we saw. Mary was so patient with our daughter doing her 3 4 dives for certification. Scott is a fun captain ! We felt safe the entire time. Would highly recommend this company!!!

I'd also love to give a big shout out to Daniel and Cody who are always a blast and so much fun to dive with. Maxine is an awesome boat captain and Ashley was incredible dive master as well. She led our manta dive a year ago, gave such a great pre dive presentation, and was super thoughtful and fun to dive with on two separate occasions. Honestly, because of this dive shop we keep coming back to the Big Island and continue rebooking with them every trip. Highly recommend and I wouldn't look anywhere else for diving in Kona!

Chad, our captain, was super friendly and talkative. I get extremely motion sickness very easily. The waters were extremely rough during our visit, and I did get sick during the last five minutes of the snorkel, as well as the boat ride back. All members of the staff were very understanding and kind, and made it very clear that if I had to return to the boat during the snorkel or did have to hurl during the ride, they wouldn't be upset or judge, and wanted to help me in any way possible. A super nice and interactive crew, and they shared lots of stories about the rays that frequent the area we explored! We were lucky enough to see two bottlenose dolphins (a mother and child), a Galapagos shark, 4-8 rays for the snorkelers and 11 rays for the divers. I highly recommend booking through Big Island divers! They provided all of the equipment needed, and we were welcome to wear/use our own if it made us more comfortable. The only request I would make is that the snorkel instructor be more adamant about keeping our feet up straight in the water, as the two snorkelers across from me on the board constantly had their feet in the water as if they were doggy paddling, which over rated our view of the marine life and caused the board to shake (increasing my motion sickness). I chose not to wear fins because I had gotten anxious while wearing them earlier in the day, but I kept my feet up the whole time because of my previous snorkel experience . It would have been really helpful to have our snorkel guide get those guests to keep their legs up, but otherwise every staff member did amazing! Chad let a young girl steer the boat for a while which was really kind.

Our crew included Mike, Justin, Eric, and another Mike (I think!). I wish they had introduced themselves a little more clearly because every one of them deserved recognition--they were all fantastic. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, but what stood out most was how genuinely respectful and non-judgmental the entire crew was. At many popular tourist attractions, it's understandable that after giving the same presentation countless times, things can start to feel rushed or impersonal. That was absolutely not the case here. Every crew member seemed genuinely happy to be there. They welcomed every question with patience and respect, and if the answer to something was "no," they took the time to explain why instead of simply dismissing it. As a parent, I especially appreciated this because it's just as valuable for children as it is for adults. Justin did an amazing job teaching us about manta rays before we got in the water. He took the time to show everyone charts and photos, explain their behavior, and answer questions. It made the experience much more meaningful than simply showing up and jumping in the water. Once we were in the water, one of my kids became a little overwhelmed by all the gear and new variables. Mike handled it beautifully. He stayed calm, encouraged them to sit on top of the float board until they felt comfortable, and made sure they were doing okay before moving the board farther from the boat. That patience and reassurance made a huge difference. I have two suggestions that aren't complaints at all--just ideas that I think would make an already excellent experience even better. First, it would be helpful to give guests a quick overview of the evening at the very beginning. Something like: "We'll have about a __-minute boat ride out, anchor at the site, pass out and fit gear, wait for sunset, then enter the water one at a time and hold onto the floating boards for about 45 minutes before returning to the boat and heading back to the harbor." Having that roadmap would have helped both my kids and me know exactly what to expect. Second, I would recommend letting guests know to bring an extra towel to sit on during the boat ride. The ridged metal benches became a little uncomfortable after a while, and a folded towel would have made a big difference (we were allowed to move around the boat which was also awesome- just for those who didn't want to). Overall, this was an incredible experience. We came for the manta rays, but what we'll remember just as much is the crew. They were knowledgeable, professional, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do. We felt welcomed as people--not just another group of tourists--and that made all the difference. I would absolutely recommend Manta Ray Dives of Hawaii.

As soon as we were all suited with wetsuits and snorkeling gear and went into the water, we immediately saw a giant manta ray who came up close. The kids all started freaking out and were yelling with excitement through their scuba gear. Again, Brie and Natalie were awesome in the water. They asked if we were all okay and they were just so wonderful. Unfortunately, two of us in the group got seasick, but Brie, while holding a kid swam us back to the boat. Jared was able to tell me the history of Mantas in Hawaii. On our trip we had a monk seal follow us around. She was huge and friendly. I had to back away because she wanted to kiss me!

Just getting back into diving. This was my third trip to HI in 3 months and this was my first with…read morePacific Rim Divers. Where to start? As their website says, "Small groups and a relaxed atmosphere." We hadn't even left the harbor and it felt like I'd known them forever. While very easy going, the all female (clearly very experienced and professional) crew is right on top of the smallest detail, catching gotchas before you make a splash. After each dive, if they noticed something that might prove beneficial (weight, trim, danglies, etc) they were right there offering a solution if you want it. What an outstanding operation! Then there's the Kona coast diving. From mantas and eels and turtles, down to the tiniest nudies, This gang knew and found them all. I was new to underwater photography for this trip and was pleasantly surprised that a few of the crew were into it big time.,They helped a ton, from camera buoyancy and balance to setting up shots underwater and then rinsing/handling my gear after I handed it up. I did get some amazing shots! Kudos to the owner Kai, for putting together an outstanding crew of captains/divemasters. This will absolutely be my go to boat for Kona diving!

Kai and her crew are wonderful. We left the boat wishing we had scheduled more dives with them!…read more They took us to two different spots and showed us some wonderful fish. Their joyful glee in sharing their scuba world was contagious and made the dives far more enjoyable. They had that kid in a candy store joy when seeing fish underwater and were quite knowledgeable in identifying every fish in the reef. They start earlier then the other shops so you get to the dive spots before those boats arrive and don't have to spend time bouncing around trying to find room along the shoreline. I didn't realize until a few days later how beneficial it was to be the early bird in that ocean. I rented all my gear from them and the quality of the wetsuit and BCD was the best of the three dive shops I used while in Hawaii. I am typically first to return and enjoyed my time getting to know the captain while waiting on the other divers. It felt like talking to an old friend. The snacks provided were a mix of anything one might desire, they had cheese, apples, trail mix, and homemade brownies! The only boat I want to use for future dives in Kona!!
