Full disclaimer - This was a last minute switch, this other company pond us off to this wonderful group. Captain Ryan, Jasmine & Mark were awesome tour guides. We did the 6pm night manga Ray snorkel. (Best choice you see the sunset) We were welcomed by Matt and had great conversation, which made this a smooth transition into the boat. I brought two friends who were brand new to snorkeling. We about a ~15 minute boat ride to the location, and had a educational and casual convo about the manta rays. Once we were all on the water, the fun began. Once we got in the water - within 5 min max we were in contact with the rays. They were HUGE! They come LITERALLY face to face. Rule or thumb- you can't touch them but they can touch you. We met the manta ray Amanda and she actually touched my belly and hands on the tour, as well as other people. So many others surfaced. Hands down the best thing I've done in Hawaii. Truly worth every penny!

We were originally scheduled to go out with Manta Ray Dives charter but their boat broke down so they offered us a chance to go out with Torpedo Tours. I am so glad that it worked out that way. Rachel our guide was amazing! Not only was she energetic and fun, but she seems to really love her job and the rays! Her positive attitude rubbed off all of us and we were all hyped to go out into the water! Rachel & Geoff got us into position around multiple "campfires" and the Manta Rays just kept coming! Both my husband and I were blessed with Manta Ray cuddles... or "strippered" as they call it. To say that these gentle giants are big is an understatement. They are enormous! However, they are fun to watch as they frolic and feed. Absolutely amazing! Bring your go pro or waterproof camera... you will not regret it! (That was our only regret). If you are looking for a night dive choose Torpedo Tours, you will NOT REGRET your decision!

We booked Torpedo Tours through the Hawaii Tours website and were very happy with the dive. This is one of the few boats that offers both scuba diving and snorkeling which was perfect for our group. We had one member of our group that had issues with his mask but it was likely due to his beard and not having the special silicon sealer most other dive operators carry. Either way it was an epic adventure. I took the scuba diving option and it was one of the most amazing diving experiences of my life. There were so many manta rays and when we first pulled up there was a pod of bottle nose dolphins swimming around too. If you are in Kona don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Me! Looking off the boat before our night dive with the Manta Rays.

Never once had a less than incredible experience with Torpedo Tours! Their master divers are always so knowledgeable and kind. Every dive or snorkel I've gone on with them I've been shown or taught something new. I cannot recommend them enough! It's definitely worth it to get certified through a reputable organization such as this one. Also, check out their dark water Manta Ray dive/snorkel trips, they're legendary!

Highly recommend the torpedo tour!! The crew was engaging and provided a enjoyable environment full of laughs. Rachel, Michael and captain Ryan were attentive to everyone and made sure that no one got sea sick which made the experience more memorable since no one had to spend there night hanging over the edge of the boat . When the tour started the staff was able to find 15+ manta rays within a 45 min time period. Well worth the money! Don't miss out! The manta rays are a once in a life time experience which was made more enjoyable with such a great crew.

***BEST MANTA RAYS NIGHT SNORKELING & DIVING EXPERIENCE*** WOW I'm so impress with this company. They made it so simple to find the boat and get on the boat, into the water to see all the manta rays safely. We all stayed together so Jasmine can point out when the manta rays were coming. Definitely bring your GoPros because they come up so close to the lights on the surfboards it's just amazing. Once we were done they got everyone back on the boat safely and we had a very nice warm shower upon entering the boat. The other companies do not offer that so you end up freezing on the way back, cold, wet and with the wind making the trip back even worse. We were able to head back to land quickly and stayed nice and warm. The excursion we did was the 6:30pm which was perfect. We were able to see the sunset and right after that the Manta rays. Photos posted below. Jasmine and the crew were just amazing. She has such a great personality and was very patient and made sure everybody enjoyed the tour and it was safe for all ages. They provide snacks and drinks on the boat as well. I just wish we had time to do this every night. It never gets old. We had such a positive and wonderful experience can't wait for the next time.

We've done morning dives, the manta dive, as well as the twilight and night dive and every experience has been incredible. The staff is fantastic and always takes such great care of us. I would recommend this shop to both new divers and seasoned divers alike. We've met some really amazing people through these trips and every outing has been organized, safe, and genuinely fun. The boat is spacious, they provide snacks and drinks during the surface interval, and they handle all of your gear setup which makes everything so easy and stress free. The team is super knowledgeable and does a great job grouping divers based on experience level so everyone has a good time. I'd also love to give a big shout out to Daniel and Cody who are always a blast and so much fun to dive with. Maxine is an awesome boat captain and Ashley was incredible dive master as well. She led our manta dive a year ago, gave such a great pre dive presentation, and was super thoughtful and fun to dive with on two separate occasions. Honestly, because of this dive shop we keep coming back to the Big Island and continue rebooking with them every trip. Highly recommend and I wouldn't look anywhere else for diving in Kona!

Manta Ray Dives of Hawaii - Sunset 3/11/25

Manta Ray Dives of Hawaii

The directions were accurate,…read moreeverything was well organized, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful from start to finish. Our crew included Mike, Justin, Eric, and another Mike (I think!). I wish they had introduced themselves a little more clearly because every one of them deserved recognition--they were all fantastic. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, but what stood out most was how genuinely respectful and non-judgmental the entire crew was. At many popular tourist attractions, it's understandable that after giving the same presentation countless times, things can start to feel rushed or impersonal. That was absolutely not the case here. Every crew member seemed genuinely happy to be there. They welcomed every question with patience and respect, and if the answer to something was "no," they took the time to explain why instead of simply dismissing it. As a parent, I especially appreciated this because it's just as valuable for children as it is for adults. Justin did an amazing job teaching us about manta rays before we got in the water. He took the time to show everyone charts and photos, explain their behavior, and answer questions. It made the experience much more meaningful than simply showing up and jumping in the water. Once we were in the water, one of my kids became a little overwhelmed by all the gear and new variables. Mike handled it beautifully. He stayed calm, encouraged them to sit on top of the float board until they felt comfortable, and made sure they were doing okay before moving the board farther from the boat. That patience and reassurance made a huge difference. I have two suggestions that aren't complaints at all--just ideas that I think would make an already excellent experience even better. First, it would be helpful to give guests a quick overview of the evening at the very beginning. Something like: "We'll have about a __-minute boat ride out, anchor at the site, pass out and fit gear, wait for sunset, then enter the water one at a time and hold onto the floating boards for about 45 minutes before returning to the boat and heading back to the harbor." Having that roadmap would have helped both my kids and me know exactly what to expect. Second, I would recommend letting guests know to bring an extra towel to sit on during the boat ride. The ridged metal benches became a little uncomfortable after a while, and a folded towel would have made a big difference (we were allowed to move around the boat which was also awesome- just for those who didn't want to). Overall, this was an incredible experience. We came for the manta rays, but what we'll remember just as much is the crew. They were knowledgeable, professional, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do. We felt welcomed as people--not just another group of tourists--and that made all the difference. I would absolutely recommend Manta Ray Dives of Hawaii.

Our diver, Bradly, said that Hannah did a great job as his dive instructor, and she was great at helping the newest diver of the group who was heavily struggling during his dive. Myself and Lisa were snorkeling with Laura and she was very helpful! She was great at finding mantas for us even when they wanted to hang out by the campfire. Chad, our captain, was super friendly and talkative. I get extremely motion sickness very easily. The waters were extremely rough during our visit, and I did get sick during the last five minutes of the snorkel, as well as the boat ride back. All members of the staff were very understanding and kind, and made it very clear that if I had to return to the boat during the snorkel or did have to hurl during the ride, they wouldn't be upset or judge, and wanted to help me in any way possible. A super nice and interactive crew, and they shared lots of stories about the rays that frequent the area we explored! We were lucky enough to see two bottlenose dolphins (a mother and child), a Galapagos shark, 4-8 rays for the snorkelers and 11 rays for the divers. I highly recommend booking through Big Island divers! They provided all of the equipment needed, and we were welcome to wear/use our own if it made us more comfortable. The only request I would make is that the snorkel instructor be more adamant about keeping our feet up straight in the water, as the two snorkelers across from me on the board constantly had their feet in the water as if they were doggy paddling, which over rated our view of the marine life and caused the board to shake (increasing my motion sickness). I chose not to wear fins because I had gotten anxious while wearing them earlier in the day, but I kept my feet up the whole time because of my previous snorkel experience . It would have been really helpful to have our snorkel guide get those guests to keep their legs up, but otherwise every staff member did amazing! Chad let a young girl steer the boat for a while which was really kind.

I will definitely be diving with them again. Thank you Natalie, Lauren, Haley, Emily, and Nick for the incredible experience! Full Review: I booked the two-tank Manta dive and the two-tank morning dive. I'm still fairly new to diving--I was certified about a year ago, and these were my first dives since then. Check in at the shoot was a breeze, and they introduced me to the Divemaster for that day's dives, Natalie. I told her I was a bit nervous and still rusty with things like buoyancy control. She immediately reassured me, told me I'd stay close to her, and said, "We've got you." I rented gear through them, and they handled everything, including bringing it to the boat and setting it up. Our boat captain that day was Nick, who was fantastic. He gave a thorough safety briefing but also brought a lot of personality and humor to the trip. It was clear how passionate he is about diving and the marine life. Throughout the trip he was constantly sharing stories and information, and his enthusiasm really added to the experience. Our group had six divers and two Divemasters: Natalie and Lauren (a DM in training). It was great being in such a small group with two guides. Natalie gave an excellent orientation before the first dive, covering safety, the dive plan, and what we might see. I had a little trouble descending at first, but she was incredibly patient and helped me relax and get started. Early in the dive Natalie pointed out a Galápagos shark--so cool! We also a bunch of eels, a nudibranch, blacknose butterflyfish, and more. I stayed close to Natalie while Lauren brought up the rear of the group, and it felt great knowing both of them were keeping an eye on everyone and pointing out marine life. Lauren led the manta dive that night. After another great briefing, we descended and the dive was incredible--we saw around 15-20 mantas (which is way more than the average). They were beautiful, and the whole experience felt magical. Fifty minutes went by in what felt like ten. On the ride back, Nick turned off most of the boat lights so we could enjoy the stars on the way in. The next morning I dove from a different boat with Captain Emily, who was also fantastic. Our Divemaster was Haley, and Lauren was assisting again. Once again, the crew took great care of everyone. Two guests became seasick on the way to the first site, and Emily and the DMs handled it with kindness and professionalism and without making anyone feel judged. That same pair had some difficulty during the dive, and the Divemasters were constantly checking in and helping them underwater, while still balancing leading the rest of the divers. One thing I really appreciated was how they managed air consumption. They regularly checked everyone's PSI and gave clear instructions ahead of time about when someone should head back to the boat. If a diver reached that point, they could surface while the rest of us continued the dive. That meant those of us with more air could stay down longer and keep exploring. On the way back from the final dive, Emily spotted dolphins and took the boat over so we could watch them surf the wake for a while--a great way to end the trip. All the dives were fantastic, and I can't say enough good things about the entire team. I can't wait to come back and dive with y'all again!
