We have gone through five different yard and landscape businesses during that time. Some were good, some okay and some not so good. Our most recent contract is with Tikal Lawn. I'm telling you, they are the most dependable, consistent, hard-working landscape team we have ever had. As part of our contract, they mow, weed eat and blow weekly, mulch twice a year, aerate and seed twice a year, do fall leave pick up three times or more if needed, they trim the front hedges and are available to do select services for homeowners at reasonable costs. Our lawns and landscapes have never looked so good. These guys and gals are hard-working. They never complain and if something doesn't look right, they return and make it right. Recently their contract came up for renegotiation and even though the prices were raised a bit, the majority of homeowners in our association didn't even blink an eye before giving the thumbs up to awarding another year's long contract. I can't say enough good about this business. They provide superb service beyond words.

Our house was…read morebuilt 30 years ago and the landscaping was minimum minimal as we were just about broke when we finished three years later, the house flooded due to poorly executed placement on the property ad drainage. A drainage pond was installed in front as a stop gap measure. A lot of dirt from the front was hauled around the back and basically dumped we always intended to do something but we didn't know exactly what. Fast forward 30 years. I met an old friend Patrick Johnson who had done some landscaping for us years ago.Patrick told me he was working for a company he really liked. We had pretty well given the job to someone else, but Patrick came over and showed us their capabilities and we were impressed. We then met with brian their landscape architect and he proposed a hardscape backyard with a wall of stacked boulders. I couldn't quite understand what he meant, but he showed some pictures that looked encouraging. The result was far beyond our expectations. They offered a detailed proposal and design that we liked. They came in on budget in exactly the amount of time they said it would take to do it. They were here every day on time. They were very accommodating to us - polite and careful working around our cars and our property. You can see from the pictures of the back that the mini Stonehenge as we call it is quite impressive and far behind what we expected. The pond in front was poorly constructed, too small and too shallow. Since the equipment was there, we asked for a proposal to clean out and reline the lower pond. It proved to be more complicated but Brian figured it out. Theybegan working on that project as they were finishing up the backyard "Henge." Once again the project exceeded our expectations and came in slightly under budget and on time I can't recommend these guys highly enough they brought the equipment some very skilled operators people who worked very hard and were trustworthy and friendly. Please feel free to contact me if you would like further recommendations. We love these guys. Bob Sutton

I wait almost 2 months for the work to start which is a 1 day job. Simple stuff - hillside…read moreplanting and mulch and spreading topsoil overexisting grass and field to flatten/even it out. They send a crew with 1 guy who consistently works on the hillside planting and mulch. Mind you, they measured the areas, took pictures of what needed to be done and still didn't have the right materials. They dump truckloads of GRAVEL mixed into what was ordered to be high quality TOPSOIL onto my land and spread it everywhere. This company did a bait and switch on the instructions to bring high quality topsoil and instead dumped truckloads of dirt filled with gravel. I send videos and pictures of what they left me. They scheduled and Canceled the 'fix' 3 times at the last minute. Ken uses excuses that they can't find any crews .... so a paying customer who has been duped into hiring you under the assurance that you can handle the job is supposed to feel bad for you at this point??? Then 3 weeks later send a 2 man crew to clean up the mess that this company created. This cleanup crew starts their 'fix it' day by pulling up and having a 1 hour lunch upon arrival at 1pm in the afternoon. Then they sit down in the yard, hand picking gravel.  I have to instruct them to use rakes and shovels because there is no project manager. They then packup and say absolutely nothing so that I do not have the opportunity to review the work before they leave essentially getting out before I can inspect it while I'm working inside. They then have the audacity to send multiple revisions on invoices for some kind of machine parts (not applicable to this project) and extra work days !!   Are you kidding me right now?? It appears they are charging me for maintenance costs to their broken down truck (another failure to show up and the customer is being charged for truck maintenance??) WTH !!! This ordeal has been a nightmare because my property only needed patches filled and topped and otherwise was in great shape. Now I have rocky pastures and can't mow because it sounds like machine gun fire. (with the exception of mulched hillside). And of course no one is responding except to send more ridiculous invoices that aren't even applicable to this job. This company pulled a bait and switch with materials (charge me for topsoil and deliver dirt you'd get off the side of the road). Then they lied about where they got the dirt from because I called to check if that where they purchased it and IT WASN'T. Then they screw up the job and want to charge an extra work day to the customer to fix the mess they created which still isn't fixed bc their is still gravel and tire tracks. GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME because its illogical to screw up a job and expect to be PAID to fix your mistakes. This is insanity and I even left out some additional details to save space!! Maybe they can mow a lawn but I wouldn't have them do any landscaping. Sounds to me like Ken is selling something that he cannot endorse or exert quality control over. The only reason they have 2 stars instead of 1 is because he came over 1 day and did some raking and admitted the job was a "debacle" (his word).

Let me preface this by saying that I have actually never left a bad review before. I try to give…read moreeveryone the benefit of the doubt, but I can no longer do that here, considering I'm out hundreds of dollars and weeks of my time because this company doesn't know how to listen. Here is the order of events as accurately as I can recollect, so when they inevitably reply to this trying to save face you can know that I was completely honest. I need to sell my house quickly, but the yard needed a lot of work. The front garden was overgrown and the backyard was a mess. I have two large dogs that had made holes and tracks, and the back patio (which is mostly just gravel and stones) had been completely overgrown. I called several different companies for quotes, and explained everything to all of them the exact same way. I talked to several people on the phone and was extremely clear to everyone about what I wanted. Two companies, including this one, said they could do the job within my timeframe, so I scheduled both of them to come out and give an estimate. People from this company came by to do an estimate, but they never got out of their truck. They never talked to me, never walked around the property. They emailed me later that day to give an estimate, but there was nothing about the backyard on it. I contacted them, including sending pictures of what it looked like, and once again was VERY CLEAR about what I needed. They sent a revised estimate with an added charge, so I thought that was that. The other company sent their own estimate, which was $200 more. I ended up going with The Cutting Edge because of the lower estimate. In retrospect, I probably should have gone with the company that took the time to actually get out of their truck and talk to me, but what can I say? I'm on a budget. I was gone while they did the work, but when I came back, I saw they had finished the front yard, which looked okay. Then I went to the backyard. They hadn't done anything. I contacted them, and the reply I got was basically (paraphrased) "oh whoops, we forgot, we'll come back tomorrow to clean up the backyard." Fine, okay, I can wait another day. They came the next day, but all they did was clear leaves and put in some topsoil. The didn't do anything about the patio. I called them to see if they were planning on coming back again, and they informed me that they were done. I informed them that the backyard still looked awful, and they were definitely not done. They said that the project manager would be at my house the next day by 2pm and that he would knock on my door to talk to me about what needed to be done. 2pm the next day came and went. It was almost 5pm, by which point I had given up, when I heard mowers in my yard. I hire someone else for that, so I assumed it was them, especially considering I had never asked The Cutting Edge to mow. It wasn't until after they left and I checked my security cameras that I saw it was them. They mowed, cleared more leaves, and once again left without ever talking to me. Once again, I called to ask what the deal was. Once again, they said they were done with the work. Only after I finally expressed that I was getting pretty damn frustrated that they were refusing to do the work I thought I had hired them for that they were generous enough to knock off $200 whole dollars, and promptly sent me an invoice. That was that. There's been more back and forth, but no more resolution. They will not do the work I hired them for. I was planning on putting the house on the market yesterday, but couldn't do that. I've hired another company, who want $700 for the work and who can't come out for another few weeks, so I have to wait to sell the house. If I had just gone with the other company from the start, I would have ultimately saved $300 and would be on track to sell my house. I'm also including pictures so you can judge for yourself. When someone explicitly asks for something to "be completely cleaned up and looking good enough to sell", and you end up with this, you can understand my frustration.
