This was a special event, and the dinner menu is not quite yet solidified, but I want to a) talk about the delicious food, b) the beauty of the inn, and c) the hospitable and friendly staff at the Inn/Restaurant. The Inn itself is beautiful and historic. It's located in the heart of downtown Winston, but has its own parking lot which is a huge plus. Our dinner was in a reserved room on a Friday evening. It was a great room for our group of about 11-12. Our waiter, Gary, was THE BEST! He had a radiant personality, and was super attentive! The chefs (Kelly and Juan) came out to talk to us and were a pleasure. The food! I can't wait for this to be a constant menu at the restaurant! We had Fried Green Tomatoes, Mandarin and Goat Cheese Walnut Salad, Braised Short Rib over polenta dish, and Crème Brûlée cheesecake. YUM! And the drinks were very unique and delicious. The rain on the roof was a nice part, if it had to be raining. Our second trip was in The Mill House because we brought our dog. This is the one pet friendly cabin they have. Our most recent trip was in Deer Run, because our big kid wanted the loft. The loft is very roomy! My mother was from Elkin, so I like to visit the area. Nice day trips to the parkway, Stone Mountain, Mt. Airy, or even Blowing Rock. Of course, downtown Elkin is nice, too! The staff has always been responsive of any issues during any of our stays. I hear the wine tours are great, but we haven't tried any ourselves.

I'm gluten intolerant and was prepared to eat the snacks I brought from home, but they made me gluten-free pancakes from scratch! Mary and Andy were so conscious of giving us our space and privacy, but we grew to love them so much, we found ourselves seeking out ways to spend time with and learn from them. They gave us a tour of the home, which has been carefully renovated to preserve its rich history and architectural character, while also providing the comforts and luxuries of a modern home. We learned about the history of Salisbury and how the town has evolved since its founding in 1755! We came for a wedding but would happily return to Salisbury just to stay in our cherished Across the Pond Bed and Breakfast.

The innkeeper, Sherry, is one of the rudest people I have ever met. It just blows my mind that she is allowed to serve in the hospitality industry, because there is nothing about her that makes you feel welcome or appreciated as a guest and paying customer at the inn. This inn is a real treasure and it is a shame that it is being represented with such a negative presence.

We have stayed regularly at B&Bs over the past 20 years and I can state confidently and enthusiastically that the Sobotta Manor's breakfasts are hands-down the best we have had anywhere (restaurants included). The friendly, do-it-all owners Robin and JR continue to ensure that will continue, as their award winning breakfasts are renowned and rightly so. Let me emphasize that this is not your typical B&B fare but more closely resembles a four course meal that changes daily. It is an event in itself and should be savored. Robin and JR are obviously passionate about their B&B, love sharing it with their guests and take great pride in doing so. I highly recommend giving it a try. This quaint B&B…read moreis only a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway (maybe 5-8 minutes driving) and about 15-20 minutes drive to the Stone Mountain park. It is out of the way down a long driveway, and most likely you'll be greeted by their super friendly dog, Hunter. Jim and Margaret are great hosts, providing freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and lemonade upon arrival. The check-in process is short and sweet and they are available when you need them, but the place is big enough to give enough privacy despite the community spaces. I surprised my bf for his birthday and we came up just for one night. We stayed in the Yosemite room and it was perfect. The king bed was super comfortable, and the room had a ceiling fan, flat screen tv, electric fireplace (for ambiance and/or for heat), and the bathroom had a shower and a jacuzzi tub. It was right around the corner from the kitchen, so in terms of noise, you do hear the clinging and clanging of cooking and cabinets/drawers closing, but it wasn't a major issue for us. If you're sensitive to noise, then I would suggest getting a room on the second floor instead. Our room leads off to an external entrance to the back balcony/porch area so we could come and go from the back door instead of going through the house/common area which was nice. There is always access to coffee (fresh brewed in the morning or a Keurig for afternoon) and hot water for tea or hot chocolate. Upstairs, there is a small fridge that has complimentary can sodas and bottles of water for guests to have. I put our bottle of champagne there to chill. The highlight of the stay of course was the breakfast promptly served at 8:30a. We woke up to a beautiful spread and shared a nice breakfast with nice conversation with 12 other guests. It was family style, so we passed the food around and around until we were all miserably/happily stuffed. Margaret's famous cinnabuns were really delicious - super sweet and fresh. Overall - Everything was clean and just really done well with nice subtle touches throughout the B&B (ie. light music in the background of the common areas, fresh cut flowers in the bathroom and bedside, foaming bubble bath by the tub with a pillow, several candles in the room to assist with creating a romantic ambiance, super plush robes and Bath & Body Works shower products (soaps, shampoo, etc) to use... This cozy little cabin has a loft bedroom with one bed and a half bath. Downstairs is a living room that is equipped with a pull out sofa bed, perfect of an eight-year-old. The grey stone fireplace and chimney occupy the center of the structure and are beautiful. The full kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, coffee-maker, cups, coffee, tea and there was a plate of fresh-baked cookies waiting for us on the table when we arrived. Just off the kitchen is a full bathroom with a fantastic Jacuzzi tub. But the piece de resistance: the most perfect "settin' porch" overlooking the creek behind. No kidding, the perfect spot for your morning coffee! In the mornings, we walked up the hill to the main house log home with another amazing porch. The innkeepers make a homemade sumptuous breakfast every morning. On the first morning, there was fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, baked grits. On the second morning, we had shirred eggs with ham, waffles, Moravian sugar bread, fruit salad. We enjoyed the breakfast at a common table with other guests, sharing our stories of our journeys and adventures. Delish!!

Even the toiletries are great :p and monogrammed towels were soft and plentiful. Bring your own hammock, they had 2 on premise. It's close to downtown My Airy, which hosts a car show I believe 1x a month. They do have a wading creek and a walking trail, a fire pit, that's very far from the cabins. Id bring bicycles next time. 1 complaint is the horseshoe area had ants and was rusty..
