We received the beams last week, and they are so bowed- a few at least 2-3 inches. It will take hours and hours of work to try to get them even usable. We called right away and were told that a manager would be calling us on Monday. On Tuesday night we finally reached out to see when we might get some resolution on this. The manager called Wednesday morning and we were unable to answer, but he didn't leave a message giving us a phone number to call back. Very poor customer service. When we finally talked to him, it was "too bad so sad" - it's reclaimed wood so there are "imperfections." We would not have ordered the beams if we had any idea that they would not be straight. The manager's refusal to do anything to compensate for what we have to do to make the beams usable is not good customer service. Perhaps we were misinformed about the condition the beams would be in - but it seems that the face they would not be at all straight is a big deal and should have been addressed when ordering.

Those of us coming from Longmont or Boulder, who have to deal with rush hour traffic after 3pm, find it almost impossible to get there unless we leave in the middle of the day. That's not usually possible for those of us who work for a living! They close at 4pm (5pm officially, but you can't get anything cut after 4pm), and Noon on Saturdays. Of course, they won't cut sheet goods at all (unlike Home Depot), so that's never an option unless you have the ability to carry 4x8 sheets. All in all, they act as if I'm doing THEM a favor by buying from them. I DREAD going all the way down there and only do it when I have no other choice. It's MUCH easier to go to and work with Rockler, even though they are further away from Boulder, because they actually want my business (unlike Austin). Austin Hardwoods would be so much more successful if they adapted a more customer centric approach. I guess they don't need (or want) the business from non-contractors.

Their craftsmanship is terrible for…read morewhat we paid and expected and their customer service dismissive and disinterested in correcting their issues. We hired a custom cabinetmaker and finish carpenter for remodel work including an entry door. We ordered a custom solid Douglas Fir Simpson door and sidelight with stained glass from Central Trim and paid them to build the door frame in stain grade Douglas Fir so that the unit was prehung and matched the door and sidelight. Central Trim told us a delivery date in 8 - 10 weeks. They notified us 12 weeks later that the door was built incorrectly and they needed another 8 weeks. 6 weeks passed and they delivered the door with incorrect glass. They took it back and delivered it a week later. 9 weeks after the original 10 weeks delivery time they told us, the door unit had many issues from Central Trim's work. They used pine on the jambs/frame with a noticeably different grain than the Douglas Fir we ordered. The painter explained the pine would have a lighter stain color than the Douglas Fir of the door and sidelight and that Central Trim should have used Douglas Fir or Hemlock or a better matched grain. Central Trim incorrectly installed the jamb that divides the door and sidelight with a warp in it where the top and bottom gaps are even at 1/8" but the center gap at the latch doubled at 1/4". Central Trim incorrectly measured the top and bottom placement of the divider and warped it when they screwed it to the sidelight. No amount of shimming will correct the warp since it is built into the divider, and it is very unsightly having a gap that large. I personally confirmed with a digital level and a tape measure that the contractor installed the frame plumb, level, and square with even gaps and that the issue is from Central Trim's work. Central Trim used very sloppy nailing. Instead of evenly spacing nails and in line with each other, they nailed randomly with some pairs of nails in line and other offset/diagonal. Because the door is stain grade, these nail holes show even with stained filler matching the color. In comparison, the nails on our new custom cabinets, trim, and windows done by our contractor and the same painter are uniform and barely noticeable. The nailing Central Trim did is an eyesore we have to look at each time with open the door. Central Trim left deep pencil grooves in the frame and put a number of deep dents and splits into the door. The painter used a steaming machine to try and repair the damage but was unable to remove them all since they were so deep or had broken off the edges of wood. He sanded them out as best he could but could not sand them out completely without sanding through the veneer. Even when filled with stained filler, but the damage is still obvious. When Central Trim corrected the door glass, they left deep gouge marks and splits in the door and trim from a pry bar. Rather than using new trim, they reused the beat up trim and peppered the pieces with more nail holes. They also damaged the new glass with what look like multiple deep sanding or grind marks. At our request, the contractor sent photos and details of the issues to Central Trim, but the email responses we received from Central Trim's manager dismissed the issues blaming them on the installer and painter. Central Trim did not take responsibility and never apologized for the 9 weeks of delays and issues. Our contractor felt so bad about the delays, issues, and Central Trim's response that he paid the painter out of his pocket and installed the door for free and charged us only what Central Trim charged him for the door unit. We chose to keep the door with its issues because it was late fall and Central Trim's delays had delayed our siding contractor's work to where we could not wait further without breaching that contract and having issues with house leaks. We will never do business with Central Trim again and do not recommend them for anything. The quality and customer service we received was terrible.
