We brought mom back for a visit and she immediately fell in love with them and the facility. Their warm and caring personalities made mom feel very secure and they immediately became friends. When move in day came, mom was anxious but at ease with how smoothly it went. She settled in almost immediately. Both Joe and Allis are exceptional people who care deeply for their residents. As mom began to have physical difficulties, they knew what to do and how to respond to every need. Mom often said how secure she felt and how much she loved being there. Our family was extremely pleased with everything that they did for mom. Even when nobody was around my grandmother would tell us how much she loved the people there and she felt like this is where she belonged. On the day we had to say goodbye to my grandmother the owners and staff were not only there for my grandmother but for us the family as well. One of the assistants made a point to tell us she loved her and to make sure we knew her favorite song. That spoke volumes to me about the personal relationship my grandmother had with them. We had a camera that we checked remotely and you should have one! Meetings with the Executive Director and Wellness Director were held at our request but nothing changed after their promises. The CNA's are very lazy and left our loved one in soiled diapers with urine and feces. They would walk in the room, look but not touch him and walk back out. Minimal effort is made to do anything. Diapers were not changed on any schedule and sometimes not even once in 24 hours The laundry situation is a joke. After realizing that the laundry facility was in dire need of care, we took the laundry home. The machines are old, don't work right and the laundry detergent that feeds into the machines is usually empty. Most of the machines need to be replaced They laughed at and yelled at him because his diaper was so full of urine and feces. The caregivers morale is low. They came in and yelled at our family member because they had to change him. We finally got one fired, but the others still made cruel comments to him and laughed. Housekeeping and cleanliness is an issue. Rooms were moped with dirty water and vanity and si sky were never cleaned. our loved one died in early December but we were not refunded the balance of the December rent $3, 300 until Feb 6. In our view the owner of Ivy Springs is enriching himself with this low budget facility to the detriment of those who proclaim to give quality care and respect. We will never place anyone in Ivy Springs or any Mainstay Senior living facility, the parent company. Please please do not use this facility. we had a family member spend from 9 to 3 every day and it was horrific.

They've been taking for two months and my mother fell and broke her arm because nobody answered the call for two hours and she tried to get up and use the bathroom on her own and fell. After falling, they called me and told me that I'm gonna have to hire private caregivers. When I couldn't make that happen fast enough, they referred me to a place named honeybee. It's a lovely place, don't get me wrong and the caregivers are wonderful people, but why am I paying Gateway 4600 a month and then having to pay private caregivers to do what Gateway is supposed to be doing. The staff is very unprofessional. The director of nursing has a nonchalant uncaring laid-back attitude. Maybe it's because she has a title as an executive Director but she's an LPN who probably doesn't make much money. That's not my fault. Then they have other people who have titles, but nobody does their job. I've always learned, to whom much is given, much is required. Nobody is above helping others. If you work here, you were supposed to get your hands dirty and help these residents. These people are paying between 3800 to 6000 month approx so that they can get assistance with their activities of daily living. If a single caregiver that I pay for could come to this facility and help my mother with a bath, why can't Gateway help her. It's not like I'm paying for three caregivers. I'm paying for one person who does what needs to be done. Well they have more than one person working here, and therefore, they should be able to provide the assistance that my mother needs. Especially since she broke her arm here. It's in a sling and she is 85 and she does have Alzheimer's and she's becoming wheelchair bound a month and a half ago, she used a rollator to walk in here. You don't get what you pay for. They say that they help with doctors appointments and they say they do a lot of activities and go on trips. That's very exaggerated. The trips are far and few and the activities are bingo and Bible study. And even bingo is rare. The resident formed their own Bible study. And it's only about five people that attend, and my mother was one of them . They want a 30 day notice but I am not staying here for 30 days and paying for caregivers for another 30 days while still giving them a check for $4600. We're going to have to fight in court about that because it's all about the principle. This is not and it's neglectful to say the least. The fact that you're taking my money, but nobody wants to assist her and you want me to pay for an outside person to come in and take care of her is beyond belief. Astounded and shocked by how much nerve Has to call me and suggest that. And then to show you how poor their communication is, the executive Director Heather just called me today to act clueless about everything and say she didn't know any of this. She heard my mother was moving out tomorrow. I never told anyone she was moving tomorrow. It takes time for another facility to come in a valuate your loved one and to obtain the clinicals and letter of certification from the doctor in order for your loved one to be transferred to a facility. There's a process here. But this is why I don't like this place. The communication is poor. People downright lie. They're unprofessional. They have retaliatory practices. They're dishonest and lack integrity because they want to take your money without doing the job. They give the worst selection of food. They bragged about having a chef, but my mother has more sandwiches than she's ever eaten in her life. Hot food is also not that common to come. They say that people have acid reflux and dentures and some of them have no teeth at all and that's why they serve sandwiches. It's just a lot of excuses. They should have some kind of meeting or plan where they let me know that my mom will be safe from this point on. There was no such call. The only call I got was to tell me that I need to hire caregivers because it took four of them to get her off the floor and she's too heavy and they don't have that kind of manpower and therefore I need to hire private help And that's 100% factual. if we end up in court, which I hope we do, I will have the evidence to show the court that they made these calls and they told me these things. Now they're trying to backtrack on what they said. I'm over it. Gardens was the worst mistake ever. Total waste of $10,000 that I could've put to better use. Now I will give my money to a real assisted living facility that knows what the word assistance means

7/18/2023 My mother died today from your negligent covid…read moremanagement and lack of concern for residents. Because she was very ill from catching the virus at your facility in Sugar Hill, Mom was so weak that she couldn't go to the bathroom herself, and had already fallen. So I was staying on a cot in her room. I needed to go out to check on my dog and get clean clothes and food. I asked Jenna if she could please have someone watch mom for half an hour. She agreed. I received a call after about 15 minutes that mom had fallen again. I rushed to Benton house to find mom with a huge blood filled bump on her head. She was dazed and possibly concussed. Jenna swore up and down that someone was checking on mom. Then she backpedaled, simpering about company policy that wouldn't allow an employee to watch mom even for a very short period of time. They can only help after mom fell, and she pressed the pendant. Of course, Jenna conveniently left out the fact that if you are knocked unconscious or the aides take an hour or more to respond because half were sick with covid ( since there is no vaccine requirement), I guess it is too bad for the resident. I found out later that Jenna lied about having someone keep an eye on Mom because it was a resident that called for help when she saw mom lying in the doorway to her room. No one was even told mom needed watching. So you can ditch the platitudes. Admit that the only important value of Benton House is the bottom line. Residents are insignificant. Management are soulless monsters that can't even be bothered getting vaccinated or draw up a working plan to stop the spread of a deadly virus. I chose Benton House believing that Mom would be safe at the times I couldn't be with her. I was so wrong. My wonderful Mother died today. I am seriously considering contacting the senior ombudsman or a lawyer so no other daughter will have to go through this nightmare caused by your people's failures. Sincerely, Susan Hilla

My mother lived here for two and a half years before her death at 92. This facility is excellent…read moreand the care she received was phenomenal. The building is very clean, attractive and well kept. She originally lived in a cute 1 bedroom apartment with her own furniture and art. A year ago, after suffering a stroke, she moved to the Memory Care where she lived until her death. The care providers are really what makes this place exceptional. I felt like everyone there really cared for my mom. Whenever I visited, the staff would catch me up in detail on how she'd been. Her personal care was always excellent even after she became non-verbal. The administration is always available and easy to work with. The nursing staff is top notch as well. I recommend Benton House of Sugar Hill without reservation.
