I visited the comedy theater for the first time during the Pittsburgh Gallery Crawl, and the venue just reopened since the beginning days of the pandemic. The cast was entertaining and so funny with their improv. They engaged the audience in many of the scenes, and it made for a good time with friends. I'm looking forward to seeing more shows here this season when I visit downtown Pittsburgh.

Wow, color me impressed! What a fantastic venue for comedy, improv and all things in between. At a price something from an average of $7-15 depending on event, there are usually 2 shows overlapping in the upstairs or downstairs space. This venue is fresh! They feel modern even have a elevator if you need, snacks for sale, nice friendly staff, clean restrooms, video games near said restrooms. We caught a famous act staring Eddie Brill, which was fantastic show, what luck! Important to note: it's BYOB for a small fee, which makes this such a hip venue as well as a great value to catch great improv! The seating is semi tight but in no means crowded and was comfortable through the show. I will be back, love this place!

The Arcade Comedy Theater is one of the best places to see a comedy show in Pittsburgh. The theater has a great vibe and the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The shows are always top-notch and the comedians are hilarious. I highly recommend checking out the Arcade Comedy Theater if you're looking for a great night out!

Improv Night Review (Comedy Royale) What an incredible experience. I told my friend we should go to the movies and try to see a comedy because I could use a mental break. However, their suggestion was to go to Arcade Comedy Theater for their improv night, boy am I glad that suggestion was made. I laughed the entire hour and a half I was there. What a talented group of people. For someone who it was their first time to a comedy theater it was absolutely incredible. I ran into a friend as well when we got their and she had a six pack of beer which was great. (It's BYOB). The staff was great and that made the competitive improv night even better. Well done Arcade Comedy Theater - I will be back for sure.

Great place to go with friends for a night activity. The comedians here are hilarious and put on a great show every time I've visited. Their doors are open for free shows during Downtown Gallery Crawls. It's a must-do stop to make! They do a "Who's Line Is It Anyways" style improve show, taking the craziest suggestions from the crowd and rolling with it for the skit. I'm always impressed by how they are able to take crowd suggestions and still have everyone laughing. I just wish these shows were longer, I don't want the fun to end. I look forward to going back for one of their nightly shows outside of the Gallery Crawl.

I attended a comedy show at Arcade with a group of friends. It was my first experience here and I wasn't disappointed! The venue itself is small and intimate, while being laid back and very casual. You enter in on the first floor where the first theater is located. We were escorted to the second floor for our show, which also has another small theater. The theaters themselves are very small and can feel quite cramped with a full house (which we experienced that night). The performers were top notch and did a great job engaging the crowd. We had a blast listening to each of them! One of the few challenges of the space is having the bathroom on the basement level. I recommend using it when you first arrive to avoid the hassle of going up and down the elevator or stairs. Parking can also be challenging as it is downtown. Street parking is limited, but there are two parking garages within 2-3 blocks of the venue. It's BYOB, but there is a fee to pay for bringing your own beverages. Aside from these few challenges, the space is awesome and the shows make for a great night out!

I am SO SO SO excited about this joint! How lucky are we to have a local comedy club right in the Cultural District? How lucky am I to be able to soak all this funniness in? Is funniness even a word? Whatever... This place rocks! I hit the opening weekend for their Saturday 8pm performance. I had no idea what to expect, which probably makes the experience even better. First up was the Player One improv group. They're the resident "troop" of the theater. This was my favorite part of the evening. It's been a long time since I've seen local improv, and it was HIGHLY entertaining. We have some really talented and funny people living amongst us! Whodda thunk it? Loved the audience participation in setting up certain scenes. They were on point! Next up was a radio show. It was one of those old time radio show set-ups, where the actors read a script, performing as multiple characters right in front of you. I know the Bricolage Theater does this series with much success. I felt this was the one part that fell a little flat. I get what they're trying to do, which is introduce different programming, but it may need to fit into a different evening. Something I'm sure they'll figure out with time. The mood was brought up by the musical stylings of Burgertime. I don't know quite how to categorize them other than a musical comedy/mash up act. Addi, the lead singer, is super adorable and has an amazing voice. Top that off with a version of Fergies "My Humps" and I'm sold. I was also mesmerized by this one cool electronic type instrument they were using. I'm not an expert on musical instruments, but it looked like the base of a guitar with electronic sounds coming out of it. I don't know how to describe it without sounding dumb, but it was awesome and I want to learn how to play it! The event headliner was Gene Collier from the Post Gazette. I've never seen him do stand-up before... but he was very funny. I enjoyed his jokes about getting old, etc. We're all doing it... ugh. But... 30's the new 20! The theater itself is super intimate with about 75 seats. I love that kind of setting because it allows you to feel like you're connecting with the performers. You can see their faces and their expressions clearly. I just know this place is going to get better and better and I can't wait to experience it all!!

At the end of the show this guy try to hit genies world record ... Which he did...Too bad I was just not impressed...

With a partnership with AHN, they direct you with ample signage and the lot is simple to enter right across from the theater! The area is beautiful and very safe! Tree lined sidewalks and clean areas around. The theater is a little outdated in entry. For a small capacity, you stood outside in line for an extended time due to a single ticket taker with a clipboard list. This delayed the performance by 15 minutes as he struggled to check people in. The lobby is centered around a bar for refreshments. The tickets are sold per section (A-D) without specific assigned seats. We set in the mezzanine and entered through the second floor. Some of the seats are "dangerous" with small catwalks and seats perched with no floor behind them. My friend actually lost her shoe mid performance as it fell through the opening. The productions are limited in set design and technology due to the theater size but there are plenty of plays and shows that don't require as much. If you have a chance to check out New Hazlett, I'd definitely recommend it.

I've been here for a variety of events (and that is one of the cool things about the space). There are resident companies that use the space, but various organizations and companies can also rent the space. Which means there is a nice mix of programming available. There are seats around the stage (which aren't always used for each performance) and upper and lower level seating. One thing to note is that their seats are not that wide, so if you are a larger patron or have a wider bottom, it will be a tight squeeze. Sight lines are great from everywhere and it is easy to hear. Parking is available for free in the garage right near the theater. A great place to catch a show!

There is a variety of programming offered from cabaret style solo performances to smaller scale musicals. There are seating options in booths, tables and a raised platform in the back. you can really see/hear well from anywhere in the venue, but the side booths you might lose some perspective. i don't particularly like the new QR code ordering because it can make it hard to actually ask questions about anything (and the servers are so busy it is hard to catch them to ask).. there are a variety of food and drink choices (apps and entrees) and they are on the more pricey side, but that is to be expected at this type of venue. This review is focused on the service aspects, which are less than optimal. We attended on a Thursday night when we saw an excellent 1-man play of Die Hard. The entertainment was highly enjoyable, but the food and table service were frustrating. We came an hour early with a plan to enjoy dinner before the show. They don't have anyone who will wait on you - they force you to use their QR code at the table to order. Most of their dinner options were marked as "out of stock", so we were corralled into ordering a burger or a pasta dish. Those items were very good, but we didn't like the railroading aspect. Post-delivery service was limited, to even get extra mayo - the food deliverer dumped and ran in a flash. Trying to talk to the nice elderly ushers was fruitless with no satisfaction involved. When we had questions about the food, ours even amicably acknowledged that we ''couldn't talk to'' the waitresses. Worst of all - the invoicing included an un-changeable 20% tip! So if you ordered a 2nd drink, 20% was also added on top of that. (To have some sense of control, I went to the outside bar to get our 2nd drinks - and did tip, but not 20%). The frustration factor of how the food service is run and charged for inserted unnecessary challenges into the otherwise pleasant mood for the evening.

The musical performance in and of itself was phenomenal and could have stood by itself as it's own performance. I especially enjoyed the voice of Aja Wiltshire who sang in traditional Cambodian style music. We were amazed how she could throw her voice across the entire audience as a soprano. The pitch of her voice paired with the power behind it and the unique sound of the entire band and flashing lights is quite the spectacle. Greg Watanabe, who played a protective father with a tough past, gave an unquestionably powerful acting performance as he was showing the horrors of a very dark past that comes to light only until later in the play as the plot mysteriously unravels. The emotions and energy he puts into the many difficult encounters he faces throughout the play with his tears and sweat pouring down his body reminds one of the humanity of Cambodias difficult history. Overall, they did an excellent job of tackling heavy subject material with humor and the personal stories of the characters. I would highly suggest this to anyone with a taste for ethnic music and historical theater.

I saw Hedwig at Greer Cabaret Theatre on Sunday. They changed the script to include Pittsburgh references but decided to leave in the line "and the colored girls sing..." in reference to Lou Reed's song Walk on the Wild Side. There were millions of other lines they could have chosen to reference Rock N Roll culture. Why choose this line? Why have white actors say that line? Regardless of who Lou Reed was referencing in the song, describing people as "colored" has a very specific meaning in the context of the United States history. Furthermore, he has omitted the word "colored" from the song and has other questionable songs in regards to race. City Theatre is comprised of a predominantly white board, white staff, and this show was primarily white actors with a largely white audience. I reached out on Sunday and asked for them to refund my tickets. I have not heard back from them.

They do several a year at the Byham and also have some at their headquarters in the West End. They also have several children's productions every year and while it is obvious physically that they are student performers, the quality is top notch. They also have a wonderful educational component. They offer classes throughout the school year (everything from dance to musical theater and even audition techniques). They offer both evening and weekend class options. PMT also hosts annual summer camps that start fairly young and run through the high school years. One of the great things about their camps is that they are four weeks long (three weeks of a standard camp day, one week of tech week). Many kids need consistency in the summer and this is one of the few summer camp options that offers is. The instructors are all wonderful with the kids and everything is well organized with efficient and plentiful communication. The only slight downside is that parking can be a challenge when attending something at their West End location. There is a municipal lot down the street and plenty of street parking, but you may need to park a few blocks away, so prepare in advance for that. Highly recommend them for taking in a show or participating in their classes or camps!

Even though we were quite early for the show, there was no one around, directing us in terms of where to park and it was quite confusing, being that we had never been there before. We ended up getting very turned around and Wound up 3 miles away from the theater again after passing it... That's our fault, but still better signage would be helpful. The other reason is that, as somebody with a visual impairment, the theater is quite hard to navigate. There is incredibly little space in between each row of seats, and as somebody with a vision impairment, and being plus sized, that can be a very big challenge when it comes to navigating during the appropriate times during our visit. Again, though, those are just our experiences with the venue... This rating does not at all reflect the performance, because it was 10 stars if that is an option! The venue is beautiful and it's definitely a piece of beautiful Pittsburgh history. Just a few touchups could be made! Keep doing amazing things, PMT!
