05/2026 An update: I went in for "just a few things" and came out with an armload! I found so many good things! I love their pickle selection, especially the marinated mushrooms and artichoke hearts. The fastest way to make myself eat a salad at home is to sprinkle it literally with either of these. Then I noticed there was a sale in the cookie aisle - particularly a brand of ginger snaps: Score!! The meat aisle is fantastic if you buy in bulk - buy large quantities and chopping it up at home myself has become my go-to way to save money. read more

I have an obsessive fascination with the Arcade Market Place, a family owned grocery store in my rural neighborhood. They are my exclusive source of high quality/low cost meats and poultry. They posted a fabulous deal and all their whole roasts, so I had to scramble my kids into the car and get down there to grab some bargains! Once inside the store, my first stop is at the butcher department. Ring the bell and a very helpful young man will come out and load my cart with the meats. The Brass family has owned and operated this business for over 100 years. Annually they celebrate their birthday by discounting many products throughout the store as a way of thinking they're loyal customers. Just another way of exhibiting their hospitality and care for the community. read more

Love this store....Friendly staff always ready to help.Butchers are always there to help yo get cuts of meat you need or want the way you like them.Foods are fresh,store is clean,good selection. Prefer this store over Tops anyday. During covid they took orders by phone and brought them to car before the rest of the orther stores did. I like this store, much friendlier than Tops and better prices on a lot of items. Also I think people should have to produce some kind of ID for service animals, there are reasons for animals not to be in stores. read more

Have always enjoyed this store. Prices were fair. Staff, nice. Tonight I shopped there. Stocking up on meats and canned goods. It was 7:20pm when I was heading to the check out. Guess they also close at 8pm. Also did not know. The only one open was the one by the office. I have not been to this store since last summer. You now need to bring your own bags and pack them yourself or pay 5 cents for each bag. They were paper bags offered to buy. Ok. The cashier told me about the cloth bags and the nickel for paper. Yes, well when I went to pick up a bag it was so heavy I couldn't believe it! I said, wow, am old, and disabled with my arms. Also just had a total knee replacement, she didn't know. Then she said people complain about paying for the bags! So, I said, do you think I was worried about another nickel? No, I wasn't! I would mention that there was no notice that I saw about charging for bags or the policy of you bagging your own stuff in your bags. And this cashier could have explained these things. I spent 183.00 and I was so upset that the bags were so heavy I almost just left everything right there. I will not be shopping at this store, ever again. A 70 year old woman should have been treated better! These are hard times, for all of us! A little information from this girl would have made this whole situation palatable. read more

On May 26, 2017 I was shamed and embarrassed by the manager at Brass Shurfine for utilizing a PTSD service dog ( A Belgian Malinios named Tacitus ) to fully participate in daily activities. The manager exited the back, walked straight towards me and demanded I produce the mythical "Official Service Dog ID Card" When I informed him there is no such document, he stated that there was and "the law required" I carry it with me "at all times." He could not state the issuing agency or describe the card because NO SUCH ID Card exists. The Civil Rights Division which oversees ADA requirements authorizes limited inquiry 1) Is the service dog required because of a disability? 2) what is the amelioration (act the dog is trained to perform? He insisted on no less than three occasions that an ID Card was required. Title III of the ADA specifically prohibits the requirement for the production of any identification or a demonstration of his amelioration. Despite this I provided documentation and allowed him to copy it. He the stated a "veteran told him" that all individuals" had to carry the (faux) card on them to be official. He further stated that the Wyoming County Health Inspector required that he request production of the non-existing card or he would be cited. The law clearly states that "establishments that sell or prepare food must allow service animals in public areas EVEN IF state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises" He was rude, arrogant and harassed both a decorated veteran and "highly decorated" federal criminal investigator solely on his ignorance of the law. It was not a "misunderstanding " as I consisted referred to ADA requirements. He rudely stated "okay, he better behave," he rudely turned and hurried back into his office. This manager is an anomaly of almost all establishments I have visited to include hospitals, doctor's offices, movie theaters and restaurants. On one occasions at Arcade's Tops Friendly Market the actual manager himself accompanied through checkout when it became apparent I was having an anxiety attack and Tacitus alerted. Please consider patronizing any other similar store until the manager provides documentation that he and his staff have undergone training from an attorney or authorized professional. I have made an inquiry to both the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division and Better Business Bureau. I am in the process of organizing an informational picket at Brass' Shurfine. I am in one in a family of four generations of US veterans and a medically retired federal agent and again implore all uniformed service personnel, their family and friends consider shopping elsewhere until this situation is fully adjudicated. read more
