Stopped here during a road trip and loved the cozy, inviting décor right away--it's such a cute spot to sit and relax. I ordered an egg breakfast sandwich with home fries and an apple juice, which came out to about $25. While the food itself was a bit on the bland side and felt a little limited for the price, the ambiance really stands out. It's a great place to catch up with friends or family over brunch and enjoy a warm, welcoming vibe. This is a beautiful, well-stocked bakery with a variety of goodies to take home or eat there. Although the prices are on higher side, I don't mind paying for "les artes blanches": A mushy croissant is a sad, sad thing. Here's where it all fell down. After placing my order, I turned my back, reading the menu. Then I heard the microwave "ding" and saw my pain au chocolat removed. Really?? (I once had a Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chef explain that croissants should never be re-heated because it ruins the scaffolding of the butter/flour feuille, or "sheets"). I then tried the various seats in the Danish-style cafe. Stool? No love: They're metal and lack cushions. Chairs at the tables were also metal. Met my friend here for breakfast on a Saturday. Good thing we got there around 10:30 because it got very busy after we arrived! Food was good, but I thought the coffee was very expensive ($3.75 for drip). No one came to our table to see if I needed a refill, so I had to go up to the counter twice. I got the avocado toast and my friend got the mushroom toast. We enjoyed them! We split a side of sausage, but neither of us cared for it, it did not taste like breakfast sausage. We came here after seeing a bunch of delicious looking photos on their Instagram. Honestly, I scoured through Instagram for pictures of fish fries and landed on this one because it looked so good. It was yummy but I'm not sure it was our favorite - I'd give it a 6/10 for fish fries in Buffalo. Our waiter did forget about us for about 15 to 20 minutes lol but then I'm pretty sure it was the owner who apologized and took nice care of us the rest of the night which was super nice. The transformation of the old Water Valley Inn is really beautiful. Very pleasant lighting inside and a nice grouping of tables. Unfortunately, having the front door opening exactly at the beginning of the glass case that showcases what they offer, was probably not the best design (although the showcase is the old bar from the Water Valley Inn). The second time I was there, I was actually physically hit by someone entering the door. I wasn't hurt, but it still made me think the design was questionable and probably should have been addressed prior to opening. The first time I had a very dry croissant and requested butter and jam that cost an additional $2. Not a problem, but they split my croissant, barely put any butter on it and provided a little teeny cup that contained their strawberry preserves - it was pretty laughable. A tiny smear of butter and a tablespoon of "jam" for $2? My biggest complaint is the very loud mouthed woman with the hat. I don't know who she is in the organization (although I have been told that the very elegant, dark haired lady is the actual owner), but she has a VERY LOUD speaking voice. She ruins the ambience and the coziness of the atmosphere. She behaves like she's entitled, and maybe she is ? But she is off putting and intimidating in a manner which I feel is inappropriate. I also tried the brown sugar shaken espresso and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was! There was plenty of seating and I went on a calm Friday morning. My friend brought myself and our girls to this cute spot while visiting. It's a small establishment with not much parking. I ordered the cured salmon (lox) on an everything bagel and their special iced brown sugar shaken espresso drink. My daughter and I split a raspberry crumb pastry bar. Both food items were tasty but the bagel was messy and difficulty to eat as it was falling apart. It also was quite expensive. My espresso though, was AMAZING! The staff was friendly and the restaurant had a clean interior with seating as well as a nice outdoor patio area. When my friend and I visited, we only had baked goods on the mind; so, we didn't actually look at the menu, only in the case. I ended up getting a cinnamon roll that was warmed and then topped with a tangy, sweet frosting as of it maybe had some Greek yogurt in it. Much less sweet than other cinnamon roll frostings and I really liked it; my friend, not so much to her liking. She opted for a berry oatmeal bar and found it to be fruity, flavorful and not too dry as such bars can sometimes be. We grabbed waters from a self serve station they had inside and headed out to the patio. It was lovely for the 10 - 15 minutes; any longer and we would have roasted because there was no shade and it was about 90 out. Of course as we were leaving we noticed there were two small bistro style tables on the covered front porch. Also, if you don't enjoy the heat, the inside was nicely air conditioned. I went here for the first time two days ago. When you walk in, there are menus hung up on the wall behind you. There are also specials listed on the wall, behind the counter where you pay. I had a mocha and a piece of bacon breakfast pizza. The pizza and drink were quite delicious. I wanted to order more but everything here was quite pricy so I decided to keep it at just the two items. You order at the counter and then one of the employees brings your food back to you. They have napkins but there is also silverware wrapped in linens. That adds a nice touch because sometimes napkins deteriorate quickly. The place is decorated well. There were plates hung on the wall, behind where I was seated. This place on Gowanda State Road is nice and I would definitely return. read more

I really love this place but my one hindrance on coming here is that it's extremely expensive for breakfast. Me and my husband decided to eat in this time and spent $90 on 2 shrimp & grits specials, a chai latte, an espresso and two croissants to go, which I thought was pretty outrageous. I have found that all of the drinks are a bit more than most coffee shops and at $7.50 for a ham & cheese croissant, I thought that was pretty overpriced as well, even though they are the best croissants I've found in the US. Everyone who works here is super friendly and the vibe is really cool, but at this price point it definitely won't be a regular stop for us. If you're looking for a reasonably priced breakfast, this definitely isn't the place, but if you're looking for a cozy modern, and a bit more upscale vibe, this will be your go to. One word: fantastic! We have been twice now since they opened and the salmon bagel is hands down the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The combination of ingredients (homemade pasta everything bagel, horseradish cream cheese, pickled onion and cucumber, etc) make it mouth watering good. It is a very cute aesthetic inside, charming upscale minimalist farmhouse. All staff members we interacted with were nice and helpful. The first time we went it took a little while for our sandwiches, so the next time we ordered ahead and by the time we drove there it was perfect timing. We also got an iced dirty chai latte with oat milk. So so good. They have some alcoholic options as well as a full coffee menu. Excited for this to be our new go to breakfast spot! read more

What a beautiful way to start a Sunday! This building has been completely renovated, and is a cozy, rustic oasis. The staff were amazingly friendly and welcomed us in, as if the bakery display wasn't already calling our names! The food is all made in house - the bakery selection is bountiful and so tasty. There are a few specials every weekend - today happened to feature cannoli French Toast and Eggs Benedict for breakfast. I stuck with the classic bodega breakfast sandwich with home made sausage. The ciabatta roll was fluffy and the homemade sausage patty was thick and juicy. I also got a scone with clotted cream and jam. The scone was fluffy and crumbly and paired beautifully with a spread of clotted cream and jam. All of this with a latte made for a great Sunday that I want to replicate every weekend. My experience was much more limited than those of the other reviewers, as I only stopped in to get something to go. The place was very busy on a Sunday afternoon, both with eat-in diners and other folks getting to-go. The person who waited on me was cheerful. Having looked over the bakery items, I chose a scone; I didn't ask what type it was, but I should have, b/c it was plain. Waited until I arrived home to eat it, warmed it up a bit first. Although the scone was a good size and had sugar sprinkles on top, it was essentially flavorless. In my decades of eating scones, they've always had some fruit or other flavoring. The texture was perfect, and after I added some jam, I enjoyed it. i'll try again, given the other reviews. read more

What a cute little place! We had a cappuccino, ham and Swiss croissant and a breakfast sandwich with egg and bacon and a side of fries. No judging! Everything was freshly made, tasty and delicious. The fries were probably some of the best fries I ever had- thin and crispy. The breakfast sandwich was ordered with a gluten-free bun. You can also take these buns home. Probably the best gluten-free bun that all our guest has had. She buys them and takes them home for use with her own meals. The ham and Swiss croissant was slightly warmed, because it was already made. There are a bunch of delicious looking desserts that I did not try. All are shown in a bakery case. There are specialty coffees, regular coffees, and juice. There are tables in the back in a cute little restaurant area. Maybe 8-10 tables. It was bustling but not overly busy on a Saturday afternoon. What a wonderful experience! Ambience: The renovation is impressive. Everything feels clean and new, but the old exposed (sagging) wood ceiling and beams, firewood on the wall, dim RH-esque industrial lighting, and natural linens make it feel warm and inviting. Clearly a lot of attention was paid to minute details, and the result is perfect. Food: Also impressive. Fresh-baked bread and laminated pastries with imported charcuterie and enough fresh salad-type elements to keep the menu well-balanced. Lots of extras are made in-house. It's a very talented, high-achieving culinary team, but again, it's very thoughtfully conceived, because nothing feels pretentious when you're sitting there. There is nothing I would change. (And, I'm a sucker for a ham and cheese croissant.) Service: This is an order-up-front-and-then-sit-down-with-a-table-number-to-wait situation, which works, I think, because it keeps the flow moving up front and reduces traffic in the seating area. The whole thing feels structured and works well. And, maybe it's just the newness, but the counter staff occasionally took the time to check on people in the seating area, which was a nice touch and hopefully continues. Ordered 2 fish fries on Friday during Lent after seeing a blog on social media promoting 1 of the best places in WNY for a fish fry. I was not impressed after emptying my wallet costing over $50. First off I order coleslaw & macaroni salad. Brought home to find potato salad instead of macaroni salad. The meal DIDN'T COME WITH FRENCH FRIES even though there they where on the table when watching the blog. The fish itself had NO FLAVOR & nearly dry in spots, The coleslaw itself was like eating grass clipping with next to no coleslaw sauce & barely any carrot. Went to try this business as soon as it opened. Opted to go for lunch. The entry area was beautiful and showed that the renovation was professionalky done. The menus are hung on racks opposite the counter, something I have never seen before but is very efficient. The baked items offered are all appetizing and clearly labeled. Questions are immediately answered. The bagels they make in site are HUGE. That day they had plain, sesame and everything. I chose a plain bagel for my sandwich. The inside was soft and the crust was crispy and firm. One of the best bagels I have ever eaten. All the ingredients on my sandwich were fresh and plentiful. The sandwich was exceptional. My friend and I had breakfast at Ladybird Deli last week. I had the salmon sandwich on an everything bagel. The salmon had a mild delicate flavor that blended nicely with the pickled red onion, cucumbers and lettuce. The flavors were nicely balanced, each element enhanced the others. The only issue I had was that the fillings kept oozing out from the sides of the bagel with each bite. I will definitely go back again. My friend had the ham and cheese sandwich on a baguette roll.
