Made my daughter write all the school rules on a piece of paper due to being 3 minutes late to school. This is highly irresponsible and an inappropriate punishment for something that was out of her control. I will be taking her out of this school immediately. read more

The deans treat the children as money tree's and don't treat them with respect. They have no manners and taunt them. They wrongfully give them detention and the children can do nothing about it. I have taken my child out this school due to the unprofessionalism. A teacher would watch gun violence videos and would treat the girls in the class with disturbing kindness. Another experience was when my child's friend told a trusted counselor about the abuse she has been facing from her parents and instead of providing help the counselor went and told that girls parents. read more

Better off spending your money elsewhere. $25k for distance learning last year and when kids are finally back in school this year they have the nerve to ask us for donations. They claim $25k/year is not the true cost of the tuition and encourage parents to "at least" donate the equivalent of one year's tuition over the duration of their teenager's 4 years at Mitty. They will cold call both parents asking for donations too. Other than when they are hitting you up for money you will never hear from them. You only matter to this school when there is money on the line. More than anything, I'm not impressed with the teaching staff or style. Typical of most private schools, they just load the kids full of course material versus putting the time into subjects and having truly diverse conversations while fostering critical thinking. Religion class here is nothing more than thinly veiled Cee-R-Tee. (I cannot fathom how they have the gall to call themselves a Catholic school when they push such division.) They are not creating great students, they are creating corporate yes men and the usual groupthink that is so prevalent in the Bay Area. If your child is an independent thinker they will be miserable here and you will have the honor of shelling out $25,000 a year for an indoctrination they could have received for no additional out-of-pocket expense at your local public school. read more

SOOOOOOO how do you rate your high school? Like, truly? Well, I saw that there was a way to review it so I thought I'd give it a shot. So, honestly I would give two and a half but here is why... I am not a republican, therefore a lot of the ideology that I just didn't jive with.... even during the ages of 14-18. I wasn't raised Catholic, so again... didn't get a lot of stuff My parents were middle class, not well off so.... once again.... I was raised not getting everything I wanted so some (maybe half?) of the people I encountered had lives I couldn't imagine. The pressure to be the TOPS at everything and fit in was insane... not good for a girl with body issues, not athletic, not incredibily talented in really any high school area, and like heavy metal really made for feeling out on the edges. The teachers are good for the most part but don't know anything about if a student is struggling because of a learning issue (like I did) or if it was not applying themselves (2-4 hours a night doing homework, I think I was applying myself!) Apparently at mitty, you are only worth something if you go into a high earning career and go to a well known 4 year university... being a teacher doesn't seem to be something mitty strives for.... However, Mitty did give me some good things: Some really great friends the education I needed for college the ability to realize that "perfect" really doesn't exist open campus was the best thing ever College was WAY easier than Mitty in ALL ways knowledge that You don't have to start in a 4 year to be a success knowledge that going into business does not equal success I can say say "I went to Mitty" and EVERYONE gets it... So, in short, would I send my daughter here.... I really don't know. It is better than most public high schools (unfortunately) but I don't want her to experience the image pressures that seemed SOOO amplified at Mitty.... Give them a look but also notice that a lot of the 5 star reviews come from parents...... read more

I graduated in 2008 from Archbishop Mitty High School. I had attended private catholic school from K-8, and most of my Middle School class ended up at Mitty. There were plenty of familiar faces, and also plenty of new faces. My sister also attended Mitty, although she was a Junior when I entered as a Freshman. It's been a decent amount of time since my years at Mitty, but I do remember certain things about the place: 1) The senior parking lot was a pain. I was always getting to campus an hour before school started just to snag a spot in the lot. I would bond with my friend who did the same while we put on make-up in her car, listening to music. 2) The dress code was strict, even though it did not have a uniform. I was never cited, but I had friends who were! The 'Temple' was always on the prowl for her next victim -- plastic flip-flop wearers and bare-midriffs beware. 3) The library was always full on rainy days, especially during the lunch hour. 4) I thought off-periods were the best thing ever, especially when you had ones that let you leave campus early (although nobody could leave before a certain time), but not so much when I had them first thing in the morning (since I always wanted a parking spot in the lot). 5) I never once met a teacher I didn't like. In fact, some of my favorite teachers were the ones I had at Mitty. 6) Finals were torture. Seriously. Fortunately, they never dropped one's final grade too much. 7) Mitty was big on school spirit, and it showed in several cases: from spirit week to Monarch Madness to the sports matches. This last part will be important for parents of potential or current students, I imagine: 8) I never encountered any run-in's with drugs or alcohol. These factors just didn't make it into the circles I ran in, although I heard (yet never saw evidence of) that others encountered it. Mitty is very strict about zero-tolerance. 9) I was never bullied or had my 'feelings hurt' by my peers. Mitty is a very close-knit community. Even the 'outsiders' -- like the 'goths' and 'nerds' had a tight-knit bunch of friends. By senior year, the original social cliques had crumbled and everyone was friendly to everyone. 10) This school will prepare you for college. In some cases, it will over-prepare you for college. I went to San Jose State University, and I realized soon into my Freshmen year that Mitty had been, and would ever be, the most academically challenging years of my life. Mitty is expensive. It's prestigious. You'll make good friends, you'll get a great education, and you'll do so in a school that works towards providing the best environment for its students. If you were fortunate enough to attend here, I'm sure you'll attest to the fact that Mitty is really one of those great schools -- even if you won't admit to it at the time. read more

Well anyway, being class of 2004 I don't remember so much of high school anymore but I can say a few things. -It's a place I met a lot of good friends. -It's where I first saw my girlfriend of 5 1/2 years even though she went to ND and was only there to see a friend on her birthday. -It's where I told my girlfriend of 5 1/2 years that I first loved her. -It's where I used to play Yugioh (oh god...). And MOST importantly, it was for the first time I realized I was a minority (Pinoy Pride!). My first day of high school I walked into the foyer and noticed all these people and found something to be different but wasn't quite sure what it was; yup.. you guessed it.. EVERYONE WAS WHITE. hahahaha. Except in the cafeteria where I found the rest of us minorities. Oh Mitty.. we had plenty of good times together. read more

I went to Mitty High School in 1997. I hated it when I was there, but isn't that true of any teenager in any high school? I remember thinking that it was too strict and competitive. It was also the grunge era and it was cool to be unspirited and anti-establishment. Looking back, I can say that Mitty attributed to much of my success in my career and my family life. The teachers there were great and I still hold them in very high esteem. The curriculum was very challenging and made college a breeze. They weren't over-the-top religious. I'd say they were liberal and progressive in their teaching of religion. What I learned and took from the religion classes was how to be a good person and have high morals/values. All in all, Archbishop Mitty is a great school where you can feel secure that your child will get a fantastic education and will learn respect and diversity towards his/her peers. I give it 5 stars, as it really shaped the person that I am today and I'm very grateful for that. read more

Would never, ever send my kid here. When I went here, whoever was in charge at the time informed my already stressed out, worried parents that if "I cared about my education, I would stay there and not leave". I felt, as did my parents, that they were completely dismissive of my emotional and mental state. We were never offered any kind of emotional support that I could get there or outside of school. Our impression is that all they cared about was the money that they would be losing if I stopped attending. And my parents were stressed out because a). it's so expensive to send a child there and b). they were concerned over me, and not in that order. I suffered bullying from students egged on by a teacher in particular who I despise to this day. I have many other painful stories about this place that compelled me to write this review. I graduated from UC Berkeley anyway and with great grades, so no, I didn't really need to attend this place - thank you for nothing, A. Mitty. read more

Honestly a school that gives little care to my child's health. Their Dean's Office is over the top about absence even when my child has doctor's appointments or needs to take a mental health day. The teachers are either brilliant or abusive to their students. The campus is nice, but could use with some renovations. I feel as though this school needs to review whom they choose to hire and procedures on dealing with sick children. Do not waste your money here. read more

I am a parent of now two graduates from AMHS...class of 2008 and 2010. Mitty was THE best school for my kids. Both found lifelong friends there. Both my children were involved, but not overly. Diving was great for one while Campus Ministry for the other. What a wonderful and caring place for an extraordinary college prep education! Mr Brosnan is a great principal. The education staff is amazing. If you are looking for a quality, college prep education please look at Mitty. It is well worth the money. We could not have been happier there! read more

I just graduated from Mitty (class of 2016). Please allow me to be the first to tell you that Archbishop Mitty High School is THE best high school in the area. The school prides itself on community and the personal development of every single student, in every area possible. Every staff member is beyond qualified and professional, and takes special interest in every student inside as well as outside of the classroom. This is something you will not find often. High school is one of the toughest times in life for kids and I think AMHS does an exceptional job at making this transitional period as smooth and as enjoyable as possible. Most teachers here are of low quality and some don't put any effort into teaching. One particular teacher wants students to correct each others papers. Well, this is acceptable if teacher is willing to pay partial salary to the students. Many teachers/staff don't get employed here because of their merits but because their parents paid high donation to the school or because their spouse/relatives are in influential position in here. This will be obvious once you look at the names of influential staff or donors lists. Apart from the fees, they will call you many time asking for your donation. If you can shell out another 25K, your child might get a lead role in HS musical. What if you are a parent who believes that your children should succeed because of their own merits by working hard ? read more

I can't say enough about this high school. The teachers and staff are all great. I went their in the 90's and when I went to college I felt like college was easier then Mitty. They prepare you that we'll to be able to move on to a four year college with ease. This is best opportunity and gift my family gave to me and while I did not realize it then, I do now and I will be definitely sending my kids their as well. read more

Class of 2006....Not many people can say that they had a blast in high school, but i can! Mitty was not only a place where i met many friends who have changed my life in numerous ways, but i got the education that i needed to help me through college. This high school is well known in the private school system, it should be one of the top-in academics as well as sports! I have many friends going to Archbishop Mitty, and although I'm going to Bellarmine, please don't stop that from preventing you from reading my review. I honestly really like this school. Throughout the review, I will be comparing this school to its rivals: Bellarmine and Saint Francis. Don't let this cloud your judgement. I'm not trying to show its inferiority, I'm only using those schools as a basis for comparison. When I shadowed there, I had a great time. I shadowed a friend of mine through tennis, and he showed me all his friends and his girlfriend, and that day was chicken day, so the food was great. In this review I will be saying both the pros and cons. Pros The school has a very good athletic rep, and lives up to it in every way. This year, Mitty's basketball and football was ranked #1 and baseball #2 only behind Saint Francis. Mitty's soccer, although once good, has now fallen behind, but don't let that stop you from choosing this school. Mitty's definitely the local powerhouse for the main sports. Its athletic program is currently #2 in California and #4 in the nation: incredible. It has fed many professional athletes, such as Misty May's volleyball partner. Outside of athletics, Mitty's sense of monarch spirit is great. There are so many things to do there, whether its cheering at games, organizing events, or playing on the Mitty teams. Cons Mitty, besides a tuition and a fancy Catholic name, is a public school labeled as a private school. The campus is mediocre, the cafeteria isn't that great at all, and the academics are not as good as its Catholic rivals such as as Saint Francis and Bellarmine. I have many friends that got into Mitty but live in Saratoga or Los Gatos and decided to go there instead (I would too, to be honest). Mitty really is a private school for children who live in bad public school districts so they need to secure a spot at Mitty by taking the HSPT there (yes, if you take the HSPT at Mitty you'll have a 100% easier time getting in). Although Mitty sports are supposed to be good, the only outstanding teams this year were basketball, football, and baseball. And they haven't been good for a while. In 2010, Mitty lost to Bellarmine (I'm using Bellarmine as a comparision not for school pride, but I just know the school well) in football and basketball and barely beat them in the CCS finals in baseball. In 2009, Bellarmine beat them in basketball and football again to win CCS. This year, Sain Francis has had better baseball. Plus, the "secondary" sports such as soccer, tennis, and swimming are mediocre, again being outclassed by Bellarmine's and Saint Francis's. I'm not saying Mitty's a bad school. In fact, I really like it. I'm just saying that unless you're looking for a basketball/football sport scholarship to a good college, you're better off going to a good public school or another Catholic private high school. read more

My expectations for choosing to commit $15k/yr + for my child's education at Mitty versus a public school were: Superior Academics, Deepening Religious Faith, and Acceptance to a Top University - via College Planning. The results were sub-par at best for the following reasons: 1. Academics -- was mediocre - many teachers were unavailable outside the classroom due to sports//coaching commitments. Good students had a difficult time excelling in the classrooms given lack of interest on the part of the teachers. My child had a 4.2 GPA and found most teachers disinterested and unresponsive for help. 2. Religious Education -- was watered down due to appeasing liberal, political correctness interests. In fact, it has damaged my child's desire to continue attending mass with us. 3. College (lack of) Planning -- Go online, use Naviance and find the colleges of choice. Where's the counselor's independent, honest assessment of where your child is best suited? My child wanted to go to an East Coast school, and even with high scores, the highest level achieved was being accepted into a UC school. AMHS just doesn't' have the gravitas or pull with college admissions directors. Avoid!!! read more
