He repeatedly said the job couldn't get done because the houses were too close together. Pro: Did a good job cleaning the chimney. Con: Had an almost identical scenario to Ana S. only this time those scare tactics targeted a 100-year old WWII veteran to do $3500 worth of work. He told my grandfather that if he had a fire without doing all the cockamamie modifications this guy suggested that he was almost certain to have a chimney fire. This was incredibly upsetting to my grandfather, to the point where he was noticeably anxious for the next couple of weeks, often stopping just to stare at the fireplace that had warmed 4 generations of his family and and brooding over the possibility that a radical change to its facade was actually necessary, or if the owner just thought he could use scare tactics to up-sell an elderly retired doctor. Pro: Upon getting a second opinion, we got a quote for under $500 dollars to do all the work that actually needed to be done and found someone to take our business to in the future. read more

I called to have my chimney inspected and cleaned. I informed them when scheduling there were a couple of vines in chimney cap that needed to be removed. They said no problem they would take care of it. They did not take care of them. They said they cleaned my chimney flue but didn't use vacuum or a brush so who's did they do it? They sat in truck over an hour. They wanted to sell me the world while saying chimney was bad. I called and emailed with no luck. Hired another company that removed the two Riney vines in less than 2 minutes cleaned the flies and passed my inspection on chimneys. Didn't buy anything from them either. Update: I received my credit card bill and decided to try talking again. The employee that did this is no longer employed and I received full refund. This company canceled on us 40 minutes before they were supposed to be there. We were under an inspection deadline since we were buying the home. David seemed upset that he couldn't show up an hour earlier than they told us. I explained to him that we had to arrange the time with our realtor and the sellers and he couldn't just show up early. Do not hire these guys. I spent $700.00 with them to stop a leak above my fireplace. They said they guaranteed thier work, they gaurantee that the leak will stop. Their fix consisted of: "Flash Seal" and "Crown Coat" to seal up the cracks in my crown. He said the guarantee was good for 7 years to stop the leak. It did not. One week later we had another rain storm and water is coming out the front of my fireplace stones. They came back and quickly inspected it and they now said it was my gutters. I said: "How can the front of my chimney stones be getting wet in my living room from my gutters? The chimney is not on the wall where water could flow in from gutters!" He tried to tell me my gutters were all wrong and that's why it was still leaking. I told him: "I sell gutters for a living and I know all about them. It's not my gutters." He got really mad at this, I guess because he knew he couldn't sell me another lie. He then stormed off and said: "You can sue me Lady!" And off he went. I had another fireplace company come out and he said they should have put a cricket on that chimney, lifted the roof tiles and installed the flashing properly. All they did was slap some tar on your roof. They really did not solve your problem, The leak is coming from your flashing!" Archway cleaned my chimney a few weeks ago, and they did a good job doing that. Not so good? They insisted I NEEDED 3k worth of repairs and said "DO NOT USE" on work order. I had a feeling they were using scare tactics to get money; I called in a second company who said I did not need any extensive use done. I purchased a Living Social coupon for a Chimney Sweep, Inspection and Dryer Vent inspection. I realize this is probably the busy time of the year so I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. It took me several calls to finally get someone on the phone to even schedule an appointment. No one ever answers or returns calls or web messages. First appointment was scheduled for December 16 from 2-4pm. No one ever showed up for the appointment, which was frustrating because I had taken off work to be able to be home. This was a day we had inclement weather, so I would have been understanding if they had to cancel but I never received a phone call or explanation. I left at least 4 messages on their voicemail which states that they will call you back at their earliest convenience, as well as two email inquiries on their website, and never received a return call or message to any of them. If Living Social offered refunds, I definitely would have gotten my money back, but since that wasn't an option after their 7-day refund window, I kept trying to get a hold of Archway. Finally someone answered (Jenn I believe) by calling one afternoon and I was able to reschedule the appointment. She didn't seem aware that my scheduled appointment was missed, nor that it was a big deal that no one called. We rescheduled for 12/30. Two men arrived on time and were cordial and knowledgeable, and did provide a military discount on caulking our firebox corners, which in my opinion was still overpriced but since we got such a good deal with the Living Social coupon price, we paid it but declined fixing the rusted chimney cap. So overall, once getting past trying to get someone on the phone, the no-show/no-call - the physical service was good - if you're willing to be patient. read more
