If you want a fountain drink or coffee you have to pay upfront first so they can provide you a cup due to covid safety. The car wash here is decent. Is it great as you would do on your own by hand? No. but it does the job. They offer vacuum cleaning for the inside of your car as well which some express car washes don't offer. To pay for the service you need to pay inside the store & they will provide you a code on the receipt you enter on the machine. Keep in mind they charge a debit fee of 35cents. So you need the app on ur phone to get a better deal for cigarettes, gas, and last time this sad excuse for a customer service agent for the owner Nick, a kid who absolutely MUST be fired!! I asked him to help me with the app as I was short on cash and didn't have my phone with me, I told him the other day when I was buying cigarettes the gentleman behind the counter helped me with the app, he pulled it up on his phone for men he flat out refused to help me then he told me to leave. I said, what? Why are you telling me to leave , he said, Im. It going to serve you. I said why? Because I'm asking you to help me with the app for the cigarettes? Came by for a fill up the other day and it was a lacklustre experience. This Arco is conveniently located off the 10 freeway and offers Top Tier gas. There are numerous pumps and each pump offers payment at the island along with some annoying ad that is on speaker. Credit cards are accepted with a different price than cash for petrol. The fuel pump was in good working order but was out of receipt paper. The convenient store seemed to be closing down and the door was locked. The attendant was nowhere to be seen. Went here because they had a touchless car wash only to find that the machine doesn't take cash, card or anything. You have to go inside to pay. The point of a drive through car wash is for convenience, like a drive through fast food place. You don't park at those places and go inside to order and then go to the drive through. The staffs ok. I'm admittedly not the friendliest person myself and the foods decent enough. Just watch out for some of these people especially in this location. Great and convenient location, right off the freeway. Gas is always cheaper than most gas stations. Clean and organized inside, hot food is always stocked. They got a car wash there, it isn't the best robo-car wash, but its great for a quick clean and saves you 20 cents on gas. On some days, I think weekends, there's an attendant that does free drying after you wash. I'm here a lot and everything is great about this location EXCEPT... there's this older petite Asian cashier named Nina that ALWAYS shorts my coins, the pennies. I know it sounds petty and it's petty to ask for my 2 cents change, but it's pretty freaking annoying when she does it EVERY SINGLE time. If she does that to me, I wonder how many other customers she shorts the change on. Once or twice, I don't mind, but she doesn't even acknowledge it. I stopped at ARCO at 9824 Flair Dr. on the way home from work at 4am. First the pump declined twice, so I went to the cashier. He said the pumps won't read credit and it has to be done in-store but they charge $1 for credit transactions. So I asked for $100 worth of fuel, he runs the transaction and hands me a receipt to sign. The receipt he hands me says $1101.00. I told him the amount is incorrect. He cancels the transaction and hands me a void receipt. The void only says $100 though. He reruns the card for $100 (no $1 transaction fee). I pump the gas, pump doesn't print the receipt. Go back to the cashier, he prints out a duplicate. Can you say SHADY with a capital SHADY? I will definitely be watching my credit card statement and will never go to this gas station again! 28 days later, 27 after I disputed this with my credit card and AMPM has yet to respond to the dispute. I drive a big RAM 1500 truck and have been having a hard time finding a car wash that can wash it clean without scratching the paint (it's a lot bigger than a regular car!). Saw the touch less wash at this ARCO gas station today and decided to go in and try it out. What a big surprise! Good pricing, $3.99, $4.99 and $8.99 packages. Most importantly though, it is very effective and cleaned my truck spotless. Give it a try next time you need a wash. read more

ABSOLUTELY RUDE + DISHONEST. IS THE CASHIER TRYING TO STEAL $$?? I came in for a free fountain drink that I got in the app. It says a Free large fountain drink. When I went to pay, the cashier (PATTY) scanned my barcode and then said that will be $.90 cents. For a drink that is free and only 97 cents to begin with, why do I have to pay 90 cents? She said, oh it's CRV. I'm not dumb. I know CRV doesn't apply to fountain drinks. When I told her that, she said Oh, it's tax. TAX on a 97 cent drink is not 90 cents. Then what she proceeded to say next was absolutely unacceptable and she deserves to be reprimanded or fired. She said, "you drive a nice car, but yet, you're incredibly cheap. Won't even pay a $1 for a soda." EXCUSE ME??? Who taught you manners? And Who taught you customer service? The attendant on duty was hostile towards my mom and I. My mom purchased a car wash but it was the wrong one so I asked for her to exchange it. The attendant immediately went on the defensive saying she didn't make a mistake. I never said she did. But in my experience in leadership position, she was doing something wrong to be defensive. I tried to calmly explain to her that my mom has bad eyesight but she just kept talking over me and at one point asked if I wanted a refund. I asked for her name so I could complain to her manager but she wouldn't give it. Which also leads me to believe she was doing something wrong. Eventually I asked for a refund but she said she couldn't do that. I asked her why she even brought it up then. If she would have said that at the beginning, I would have just left it at that. Then she accused me of stealing by already using the car wash. I didn't even leave the store so how would I have done that?! She eventually gave us a refund while threatening to call the police and the guy in line behind us said that she had the right to refuse service. He may be right but I also have the right to a refund for services not rendered and to be treated with courtesy, which is her job. She told us to leave but I hadn't paid for my coffee and when I used my scratch power app, she said "YOU people would get free stuff! It's already done. You used it." When it wouldn't scan because she was holding the scanner wrong. When it scanned she was even more hostile for herself proving herself wrong. She was not only hostile and had an attitude problem, but she was also racist and discriminated against the elderly and disabled. I believe she is mentally unstable. Definitely a liability and having a bad day, but that does NOT give her the right to take it out on us. In my honest opinion, she needs to be terminated. She deliberately escalated the situation by being hostile towards us and caused unnecessary aggravation. She should do her job and if she can't then maybe she should quit and get another one. Saw that this station had a touchless car wash service so I stopped by during my lunch break. There was a line of 2-3 cars in front of me, no big deal. Got up to the machine that operates the wash, only to be greeted by a small printed piece of paper that read, "please pay at the pump or inside." Normally that wouldn't be such an issue if they had signs BEFORE you get in line notifying that payment must be made elsewhere. Still, I swallowed my frustration and went to a pump to pay for the wash. The card reader wasn't working. Livid. Only option left was to physically go into the store. Maybe its because it's an Arco on the edge of the freeway. I have had decent service here when I have had to go inside for change and or to buy lotto duckets. The staff seemed typical for Arco Am/Pm kind of a place. Not the most brilliant of scholars but no one who wont work hard to get where they want to go. They have the full set of standard AM/PM things here as well as the easy freeway access... What more do you want in a place like this? Ohhh ok yeah they have decent prices for gas as well. This has been a Arco and AM/PM mini mart forever. I remember not long ago that a change in management or ownership has taken place here. I would say at least a few years from now. The previous owner used to have a garage here but placed a drive-thru car wash in it's place. This gas station is in a spot that is easy to get to with signs attempting to direct traffic in one drive-way and out another drive-way. I failed to see this sign and just pulled up to the pumps. I really hate Arco for the surcharge to use your card whether it's ATM or credit. $0.60 per transaction the last time I used a card. Cash is the best until you have to get change. These walk up stations that you feed your dollar bills in does not spit out your change so you have to go into the store and see the clerk. When it's close to 1AM, you should cross your fingers and hope the clerk doesn't have other assigned duties such as in the kitchen. Why do you ask? When the doors are locked and you can only communicate through the walk up window and bulletproof glass, do you know how to get the clerk's attention even when there is a doorbell you can press? Tap your keys on the glass but the guy is still walking back and forth doing something in the kitchen. When you finally have his attention and he comes to the window. Change on pump number 8 please. That part only took less than 30 seconds. This is where you can say, FML!! read more

*Oh, [ARCO/ampm counter lady], dooby-doo, I'm in love with you* --Randy & The Rainbows, 1963 It was looking pretty grim one Tuesday afternoon after the $3.479/gallon price sign drew me to this ARCO station on the eastbound I-10 Baldwin Avenue offramp in El Monte. I had prepaid $20 to quickly pump a little petrol into my ol'-skool Dodge Tradesman van (gas gauge broke years ago) and as I began, the nozzle actuator just waggled back and forth and wouldn't dispense a drop. Naturally, I retried the fueling preparation process; nothing but more wiggle-waggle. Back into the mini-mart I went to report an apparently broken pump, where one of the two lady employees appeared incredulous, and led the way back to pump #6 which obviously had taken a sudden dive, or so I thought. "Oh, you have an old van," she noticed. "Do you have the same trouble at other ARCOs?" Actually, I do, I admitted. At the ARCO near my residence I have always had to apply firm downward pressure to the nozzle to prevent it from shutting off in fits and starts. She recounted her work experience at another ARCO in South Gate where the same thing used to happen, and told me that old Toyotas also have similar difficulties. Then she took the nozzle and inserted it, this way and that, probing every possible angle into my van's fill hole. The pump bashfully released its product, a little at a time, until she at last found the perfect position that triggered uninhibited release of automotive fulfillment. This is far from the most alluring ARCO in the chain, but its prices are among the lowest in the area, and the counter lady found my van's G-spot. read more

I've been a customer at this Arco since I started driving, but after the phone call I received from the general manager Rebecca this morning, I will be taking my business elsewhere. Yesterday I experienced the lovely 'shift change ' aka money drop. However, I didn't arrive mid or during, I arrived before and sent my boyfriend to the door only to watch the woman at the counter, follow another customer out, lock the door in the face of another customer and said boyfriend. No words, no customer service, she looked at them, locked the door and pointed to the sign. Very classy and the way to treat people who provide a business, business. Per the GM, who says that people don't read or see the signs sometimes, I'd like to say I saw both and read both. I understand the procedure of a money drop, but there are two better ways to do this: A. Treat your customers like humans, let them know 'we apologize, but if you can wait I will be available in 15 minutes, as I need to go through a shift change, I would be happy to serve you then' if they are at the door. Human contact goes a long way and will be remembered. You will get good feedback. Will you meet jerks? Yep, but mostly understanding people who know a clerk is doing their job and instead of making people fuming mad enough to walk to the window in attempts to get the work time of the GM like I did. B. Have an actual shift change during the money drop. Wait, wait, let me explain. If the drop goes as the GM expects, in the period of 15 minutes, overlap your employees 30 minutes at this time. One performs the desired drop, the other serves the window for gas purchases and if your cashier drop is big enough, retail items during the down time, then they can switch. It requires a back up register or make payment card only during this time. If this is not desired you can use the time to have an employee clean and restock bathrooms, service areas, or retail, but also provide courtesy service to let people approaching they are performing a shift change instead of directing them to a paper on the wall. Then not only can you do your drop and serve customers, you can do a double count performed by two different employees, which is really just a good idea. Now, back to the phone call! The gist of mine was 'I am a irate customer, the lady(clerk, my bad) was rude, I watched her ignore The approach of four customers(some were during the drop, I get it), I am upset. (I sounded upset and irritated, probably jerky, yep. Sorry.)' The gist of what I got back was, 'the clerk was following procedure, this is the procedure, there's signs, this is a courtesy phone call, call back if you have any more questions.' and what I hear is 'our money is more important than customer service'. That's why I won't be returning and why I won't be calling back for comments or questions. No where in there was a 'I'm sorry for this occurance, we'd appreciate your business so we can try again, please call me back so I can further discuss this.' That's great that you have a routine time for this, but is it efficient? Could your employee, who you backed up with procedure (which is great and what a good GM should do), have used better customer relations tactics? Could this issue be dealt with better? You have the perfect location and the perfect opportunity to stand out in an area with 3 gas stations in a mile radius. However, you have issues: something is almost always broken, there's never any paper for self serve reciepts(sometimes I don't want to visit ampm), and you lack employee training in customer service. Recently discovered this location's low, low, low prices and have been coming back since. I first learned about Arco's cheap gas prices through an app (GasBuddy, which tells you the gas prices at nearby gas stations). I usually go to the Arco on Ramona and Cogswell, or Sam's Club on Lower Azusa, but this location has been able to meet or beat the other two location. Besides the low prices, I like that this location offers car washes. I'm a very lazy person, so I don't like washing my own car, nor do I like waiting for someone to wash it for me. This place sucks. I've been there several times to get a hotdog and every time I go to put catchup or mustard it comes out as red or yellow water. I've been to other Arco a.m. p.m. stores and have not had this problem they're just so darn cheap there that they water down there condiments and when you ask them for packages they don't have any. I went to get a fountain drink Diet Coke and there was no syrup so there was no Diet Coke for me to drink.
