a gas station with a truck and a gas pump
    Jeremy J.

The gas was a little expensive for the area because I think the population of the town is 20. But we got some much-needed fluids because it's 1000° in the desert and we get some gas.

    Coffee headquarters.

If you want awesome customer service, talk to the red head girl. She made our day. Better than all the bartenders in town.

I did my homework and I knew that this gas station inside Death Valley National Park, near the…read moreVisitor Center is more expensive. But we wanted to gas up a bit, for safety, so we stopped by. It is kinda small, cramped, harder to come in and out. But it's convenient and since distances are so big within the park, it's great to have it around, as a peace of mind. Paid with a credit card, no issues, convenient, onward to the next spot!

When I visit Death Valley I see two landmarks of extremes. The first is Badwater, which is the…read morelowest point in the Western Hemisphere. The second is the Furnace Creek Service Station Chevron sign which shows the highest point in gasoline prices in the Western Hemisphere. Normally $5.56 per gallon gasoline prices would raise somebody's temperature over and above the recorded 134 degree high in Death Valley. Here is an example of the extremity of their fuel prices. On March 28, 2013 The Tribune talked over San Luis Obispo County having the most expensive gas in California. Their average is $4.27 per gallon. That is over a $1 less than the price shown on the Furnace Creek Chevron sign. Fortunately we filled up in Pahrump, and laughed this off as a joke. The laugh factor of the high gasoline prices at Furnace Creek Service Station are the equivalent of the high calories at the Heart Attack Grill. They might as well promote it in souveneirs that say something like "I survived the highest gas prices." Normally I would reward highway robbery (my perception) with one star. There are a couple of reasons I am rating it two stars. Having a gas station in the noman's land that is Death Valley is the better option of no gas station. The gas price sign makes a good picture. In hindsight I could of stood in front of it for a temporary profile picture. I also like a joke. Some things are so obnoxious I take it as a joke. Whenever I return to Death Valley I will fill up the fuel tank in Pahrump, Nevada or Baker California. If I fill up the fuel tank in Death Valley, the joke will be on me.

Who rolls through the Nevada desert at night with their fuel light on??…read more I do, cuz that's how I roll... and I knew I had just enough gas to get to Amargosa. After the light came on, I switched my car's display to the gas computer and watched the "range" tick down while I drove past nothing but sagebrush, rock and dust. I started to get a little nervous when the "range" indicator dropped below 10 miles... then 5 miles... and I still hadn't seen signs of this little oasis in the desert. Had I miscalculated? Would this be the time I lose at my silly little gamble and run out of gas? I knew from past experience that I could make it at least another 5 miles after the "range" calculation hit zero, so I had a little bit of padding. Still no lights in the distance, which was a little troubling. Then I popped up over a rise and there it was *whew*. Two miles to spare. I've dropped by here several times now for fuel, snacks, drinks and so on and have always been happy with the service.

Then I said what about the big sign, she said that's only for fueling customers. Oh well, I'll just continue to go to area 51 Alien Center across the street.

Gas is only low grade 87 but if you're in a pickle it'll do. Been here a few times by car, motorcycle, and with the jeep trail riding. It's an oasis! Don't complain about the prices; you're 1.5 hours either way to civilization so be grateful. Again, it's a nice stop to relax and recharge... too many people blast thru this national treasure of wonderment at top speeds, both in terms of MPH and racing the clock. Enjoy the ride.

Nevertheless you can access wifi there - thank god because I had a 10 AM Zoom meeting and there is no service almost anywhere else in the valley (aside from the other ranger station 24ish miles away!). It's right next to a market/gas station with clean bathrooms (that have sinks!), and a little inn, so it's actually a great little pit stop. They have a billboard with park info, and the newsletter for Death Valley so this spot served my needs perfectly. Even the wifi signal was pretty good - I attended my meeting no problem from their large parking lot right in front of the place, and had 360 views of the stunning scenery. So glad this station was here!

When a male staff member finally approached the counter he didn't ask who had been waiting first or anything, so despite being first in line I had to walk behind the person he decided was more deserving a service (another male). Would have stopped somewhere else on the way back, but they have a disabled restroom stall with a changing table and we needed to change our son, however the female working the counter claimed the water was not working and refused to provide a key. The story was different however when my husband asked in Spanish, so we were able to change our son. The claim about the water appeared to be a lie because the toilets and sink had running water. Like other reviews mention they absolutely take advantage of the location and gouge the heck out of prices. My husband purchased Takis & 2 things of beef jerky, and the total was over $50.
