Everyone I saw walk out, had that white bag in hand which indicated they were coming out with hot food. Inside it's your typical gas station setting and the food is up front by the cashier. You get in line to go to the cashier and order there. We ordered wing, thigh and leg. And we also ordered two pieces of catfish and 1/2 lb of jojos. I was upset about the chicken. Every single person that gassed this place up has never had good fried chicken in their life. It lacked seasoning and was soooooo dry. Literally choking down bites of a chicken leg to go down. Thank goodness I purchased an ice tea to drink, or I would have been in serious trouble. The thigh was just just as dry. For dark meat to be this dry, I couldn't even begin to comprehend how overcooked it was. As dry as it was - you would expect it to be burnt on the outside. But the saving grace was the catfish. For the price point, it delivered on all expectations. On our visit it was $8.99/lb. The catfish was everything the chicken was not. It was hot, fresh, flaky and seasoned so well. We would definitely come back for the catfish. But that's it. Even the jojos were subpar. They sell little containers of bbq sauce and ranch for $0.50 each but they should only be $.10. They hardly have any sauce on the inside. So even though the chicken is like a negative two, the fried catfish delivered above our expectations so I'll give it a three overall. I have never experienced a business, let alone a gas station, that closes more frequently for…read morebathroom breaks, smoke breaks, lunches, and for a stretch of time technical issues with their register system or something..... it was happening so frequently that I kept track for a week, and this is just the times I tried to go there.... gawd only knows how many times everyday this happens. 3/8/21, 11:30pm, closed for at least 15 mins, no explanation, tried intercom at window, knocking on door. 3 or 4 customers waiting outside. 3/9/21, 4:28pm, closed for bathroom break for cashier, however, they had 2 security employees standing around outside talking.... neither can work register??? ReOpens at 4:30. 3/10/21, 7:30pm, actual hand written note on door, "closed for lunch, back at 7:55". 3/12/21, 7:21pm, bathroom break I basically stopped going here, even though it's a block away. A couple of the newer employees seem to either be undertrained or generally not comfortable with doing math, as they are slower to make change and don't count it back to you. A security guard at this location makes a lot of sense due to the very visible and present population consisting of mental illness, homeless, and desperate folks. However, the security guards they have hired don't actually do much other than play on their phones or read books without being bothered to look up. They don't do anything to deter the loitering outside, so going to the pay window after dark is an adventure. Some of the security people in the past have become cashiers here. Instead of having one employee and 1 security guard, they should have 2 employees who can run the till, and focus on better customer service and safety. To be fair, they have 2 good employees that have been there for a while, so it's not all bad. The only reason I've decided to leave this review is because I walked by there at 11:35am this morning 5/11/21 just as the cashier and security guard walked outside and locked the door behind them....... to have a 15 minute smoke break. There were 3 cars getting gas at the time and I saw at least 6 or 7 people try to go into the store only to be turned away by the employee...... 11:48am the employee finished his smoke break and reopened. WHAT THE HELL???? Do they even have a manger at this store to hold anyone accountable? Also there was an actual dumpster fire started by someone who lingers around the area the night before last. I'm not sure if it was an employee, security guard, or random person who called the 911..... my guess is the employee(s) were probably too busy taking a break or playing on their phone.
