She was not happy for us and it was by no thanks to her that we succeeded. . To top it off she bounced the check she paid my friend with! I recently wished I could revisit there but I know already what she's like. Its unfortunate because everything else about it is good. I believe the positive reviews on Yelp are left by individuals that are required to do so in order to get their deposits back from the 6 Week Program. I've…read morebeen doing CrossFit for close to 10 years (got hooked when I lived in Hawaii), and after moving to the Tri-Valley area, I had a hard time finding a gym that felt like the right fit. I tried the other CrossFit gyms around Livermore/Pleasanton and honestly became pretty disenchanted with the gym scene out here. I ended up just doing garage workouts for a while, but realized I really missed the community and energy of being in an actual gym environment. I finally decided to check out CF580, and I'm so glad I did because it's easily become my favorite gym in the area. What stands out to me most: - Programming - The workouts are challenging enough that you always leave feeling like you got a solid workout in, but they're also approachable for all fitness levels. - Community - Strong community feel with social events throughout the year, which makes it easy to get to know people outside of class. - Low ego environment - I've been to gyms where the members are not the friendliest, and I think that usually reflects gym ownership/culture. At 580, people are genuinely welcoming. You'll see all fitness levels here, and everyone is supportive and motivating. - Class schedule - Love that they offer Sunday WODs, which not every gym does. The weekday 5am and 6am classes are also great and provide more flexibility. I've also never had issues getting into class or being stuck on a waitlist. - Family friendly - I have two little ones and have brought them with me to class. There's a small weight room in the back where kids can hang out with toys/snacks, and there's even a TV back there to keep them entertained. - Knowledgeable coaches - All the coaches are experienced, friendly, and supportive. My regular coaches are Steve, Brad, and Nicole and they are SUPER! - Great owner - DJ was welcoming and personable from day one. He even comped my first AND second classes so I could really try the gym out before committing. Oh, and he often leaves out fruit every day, which I've never seen another gym do! Such a thoughtful touch. - Military discount - My husband is active duty military, and I really appreciate that they extend the military discount to spouses too. Not all gyms around here offer that, and some don't offer military discounts at all. Overall, I'm really glad I finally found a gym that feels like the right fit. Thanks, DJ and the CF580 team! Appreciate all of you very much!

Fabiano was warm and welcoming responding to my e-mails and giving a tour of the facility. My past martial arts experience has been 3 years in Tae Kwon Do and 2 years in Judo as a youth practitioner, followed by 2 years of high school wrestling, and 2 years boxing as an adult. I typically refrain from reviewing a trial class, but what stood out from the class was how the instruction was provided. I had Professor Aluizio and Elisabeth (both very well decorated competitors as I have found) teaching the class. Techniques were shown clearly and concisely, yet small details to make a technique work is also shown. There was a good mix of experienced guys (above blue belt) working with white belts that you get small pointers and controlled application of techniques. The instructors were frequently around to correct and observe. I had my son in the youth class a week later w/ Elisabeth. Having already been in Judo, he picked up all the additional drills pretty quickly. Class was divided pretty well from warm up, ground mobility/rolls, and break falls. One technique was shown and then practiced/drilled. There was actual sparring/rolling/randori at the end of class, which was well supervised with Elisabeth and Aluizio watching the matches closely. I would like to update the review if/when I or my kids get the chance to do regular classes in the future.

A lot of the emphasis is on body movement and awareness. That means a lot of tumbling and agility exercises mixed in with self defense and karate. There's usually a competition for each session. The variety of the competitions - sumo, rope swing, dodgeball, freeze, belt grab, etc - is an example of how well rounded the entire program is. One of the truly great things about Elite is that kids are taught to instruct other kids. Every kid that stays long enough eventually becomes a sensei. Our six year old son started teaching about six months in. We love this! What better way to teach kids leadership, confidence, respect, social skills and more. All of this is to the credit of the great sensei that runs Elite. Sensei John is calm, upbeat, unflappable and definitely one of a kind. He talks to children with enthusiasm and treats them like more than "just a kid". As such, he gets the attention of his students without a loud voice or strong commands. The kids all want to do well for him and for themselves. It should be noted that if you're looking for a tough, strict and very regimented karate environment, this might not be the place for you. Your child will learn a lot at Elite but it's not going to be through military-style training you see at other schools. I could go on and on and on. Our son loves this place.
