Highly recommend this school to train for BJJ. Took three different classes thus far with different instructors and all were kind and welcoming to a new student. All the students in fact were very welcoming and encouraging. They have a 3 class trail period so I suggest you utilize that to see if it's for you. Love Ares Jiu- Jitsu! My 4 year old, rough and tumble boy needed an outlet to be himself but needed the discipline that Martial arts brings. He was bored with Gymnastics, bouncing off the walls at home and needed something more. He has been here for a year now and it has been the best thing for him. The instructors are amazing. When he started hitting at home they checked in with him at each class and let him know that behavior was not acceptable. They helped him control his behavior and encouraged him to use that aggression on the mat in an appropriate way. We love the environment here. My daughter started wrestling but there were hardly any girls in class so switching her to Ares was so helpful in giving her that physical contact with lots of girls her age as well. We love the friends and the community here. It is a very family friendly place as my husband trains and takes the kids to his class and all the kids waiting for their parents play together. read more

I have family in Roseville and this past Thanksgiving holiday I brought my gi and looked for a place to train to offset the turkey and shenanigans from Thanksgiving. I was so stoked to have found Ares BJJ. As a visitor, it's always a bit of an unknown going somewhere new to train. The guys at Ares were super friendly and welcoming, they invited me in to train as one of their own and I had a great time! The gym is huge, clean and overall very nice. The people, both instructors and students were awesome, and the range of people training was also something you just don't find in most gyms. I'm stoked to call Ares BJJ Roseville my BJJ home-away-from-home, and looking forward to the next time I'm up in Roseville so that I can come by and train with them again. I dropped into Ares BJJ Rocklin for one class while on a business trip to Roseville. I spoke with Ben on the phone and he was helpful and accommodating. When I got to the 6am class, taught by one of their purple belts named John, I was greeted by a friendly and hard-working group of guys. The class was no-nonsense, fast-paced and informative. They pack a surprising amount of content into a one hour class, and I'm taking a few new things back to my home gym to try out! I'll definitely be returning the next time I'm in the area. My one critique is that my first phone message wasn't returned, but that could have been an oversight and did not diminish my experience. In my experience, you never know what you may get walking in to a different BJJ gym. I was visiting from out of town and was suggested to go to Ares BJJ. I was greeted with a warm welcome by a student and told to jump into a class that had just started. I was introduced to Manny (instructor) who was very humble and personable. Manny's admirable characteristics could be seen in his students too. Each person I rolled with was conscience, controlled and respectful. I wish I had more time that week to attend class. I experienced the teaching of good techniques and good people. I expected to pay a mat fee but was told not to worry about it. I was given a gym t-shirt and asked to come back again when in town. The biggest anxiety I had when moving was finding a new BJJ gym to join. I spent a good month gym hopping and looking for a place to train at. Immediately, Ares BJJ Roseville gave the impression of being a family. I didn't feel the anxiety I usually got when I step into a new gym. Professors and everyone else welcomed you without judgment; in addition, there is such a strong female presence in this gym. WHICH IS AWESOME! I am a current student there and I have been training for five months now and it has been the best five months of my life! All of the trainers there are so nice and they explain things very well. I was very nervous on my first day and I have seen other kids on there first day as well but they really take time with beginners so they feel more comfortable. I was in town from the Bay Area on business and stopped in for a no-gi class. It could not have been a better experience. The instructors were super nice, and everybody I rolled with was super cool, even as they kicked my white-belt ass all over the mat. The instruction also seemed really applicable to the whole class - me as a novice white belt, and the darker belts. The facility was also nice and clean. I stared training at Ares BJJ 3 years ago and it's been an amazing experience. I started off going to the 6am gi/ no-gi classes and also attended the no-gi classes on Tuesday evenings. The instructors are all top notch and take their time to go over everything so you don't miss anything. After my twins were born I could only attend the open mats on Sunday mornings. The open mats are awesome and the amount of knowledge I was able to get from not just the instructors but also fellow students was invaluable and helped my game immensely. I'm super bummed I'll no longer be able to attend as I have moved out of the area but I would recommend this place to anyone in the Roseville/Rocklin/Lincoln area. read more

6 mo. ago, I signed my 3 children up for bjj classes. Each of their journeys are unique. They all want something different out of the experience and as each of them progresses in their skill and knowledge, I am still taken back by the fact that they are now part of a group, a community, a network of inspiring individuals who we admire and value for their work and determination. Watching each of them celebrate one another and have pride in their work are great accomplishments for them and their futures and it makes their journey that much more special to them. I can say with confidence that joining was one of the best decisions we've made as a family. I've always left it up to my kids to decide if this is right for them. All 3, still til this day, are proud to be part of a dynamic group. We are so grateful for the instructors for their guidance. It hasen't been easy, but their resillience has become a trait that carries over to others around them. We (My daughter and I) even went to an event held in SF, CA. called "Girls In Gis" . It was an event held for girls, women, who often don't get the opportunities to roll with one another. Allowing them to learn from seasoned practitioners and tailored just for women, it provided them the ability to train with other females and learn from one another. Being a part of this event was so special and the encouragement from others who understand the struggles brings us closer and ultimately connects us in a spiritual way.
