He spoke at an overwhelming pace, used inappropriate language throughout the conversation (including repeatedly saying "f*** it" in a dismissive tone), and responded to my clarifying questions with condescension--asking "don't you remember?" rather than actually helping. I had a similarly negative interaction with another representative from this company about a year ago. It might be a coincidence, but based on my experience, it feels like dismissiveness and hostility toward potential clients is a feature--not a bug--of their customer service culture. I won't engage with a business that treats people this way.

As this was my first time going through this process, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I had heard such horror stories and warnings from other homeowners in my life when it came to greedy mortgage companies and ineffectual mortgage loan officers. My time with both Evergreen and Ashley couldn't have been further from that. Ashley very patiently explained every little thing to me (often more than once), was available via multiple modes of contact (many times late at night via text), and, I firmly believe, had my best interest at heart. I had contacted other home loan institutions prior to receiving the recommendation to try Ashley at Evergreen from my realtor, Jason Wasinger, and my experience with everyone else was less than satisfactory. Upon being put in contact with Ashley, I immediately knew that I had found the loan officer I wanted to work with--she was so kind, caring, understanding of my situation, and willing to work with whatever I threw at her. She remained an almost daily point of contact during my home hunt--she didn't disappear when there were no new updates, or lose faith in my home buying process. She was willing to work with my technology-illiterate parents when it came to receiving certain documents from them, and did so very graciously and patiently. Ashley listened to my needs and requests and did everything she could to make my dream of buying a home a reality, and for that, I am eternally grateful. To make matters more complicated, we started working together during the initial concerns of the COVID-19 outbreak, when the world seemed full of uncertainty. I can say, with absolute seriousness, that having Ashley on my team during this stressful time helped keep me grounded. Buying a home is considered one of the top ten most stress-inducing life events (as I'm sure you are aware), and doing so during a pandemic doesn't make that any easier. But with Ashley, I knew I was in good hands, and that I had nothing to worry about on the finance front and could focus on taking care of my family and friends. I really can't say enough good things about my experience with both Ashley and Evergreen. I have already been singing her praises, and will continue to do so to anyone who will listen to me. I feel truly lucky that I had her on my side during this time. I am so thankful to both her and Evergreen for their support, and as a result, I am a customer for life.

The PDX Home Loan team are not just great loan officers, they are great human beings. They are personable, hard working, communicative, proactive and make the loan process, which can sometimes be frustrating, transparent and enjoyable. I refer all my new clients to James and his team and will continue doing so for many years to come. I truly care about my clients and it feels great to know they are in the best of hands with the PDX Home Loan Team.

Man, what can I even say about James Adair? If you are reading this review wondering whether or not…read moreyou should work with him, YOU SHOULD. HE IS AWESOME. I was an incredibly anxious, first-time homebuyer in 2014. I was terrified of the financing falling through because of a tight timeline. My husband and I were attempting to bump a contingent offer and everything was on the line. We were out of a month-to-month apartment, and if things fell through with our financing, we'd lose our dream home AND have nowhere to live. I was quitting the worst job of my life to start a new one, and was working a lot of hours. Long story short: James' team made the entire process easy and seamless. Working with someone local was paramount. When I made a few mistakes with documentation and paperwork, I was able to just drive it over to their office to make it right in less than 24 hours. They even stayed after hours to make sure I could drop things off. They were comforting and reassuring and really listened to me, and most importantly, they got the job done. Now, fast forward 6 years later. I'm very thankful for the equity I've built in my house and the updates James still sends me about it! I find his emails legitimately helpful and they keep me motivating to look at the big picture of my finances. I can call him to ask his advice about financial instruments and how different choices might impact my property value upon eventual sale. He still listens sincerely without rushing, even when there's no immediate profit in it for him. James is in this business of the long game. He will help you buy this house and, if he can, your next house and the one after that. He's a relationship lender in the truest possible sense and I would send any close friend or immediate family member to him without hesitation.

Steph started conversations with us by asking how much we'd like to pay a month, instead of telling us how much we could afford. On each property we were considering, Steph made sure we were confident in each of our offers by sharing with us complete breakdowns of how property taxes, insurance, down payment sizes, and total loan amounts, influence our monthly payments. I felt that Steph's team sometimes did wonders to make our offers as affordable yet competitive as possible. We got a great mortgage rate, during a period where mortgage rates are quite high. For very competitive houses, we even qualified for some appraisal gap coverage assistance. I'd highly recommend Steph's team at Cross Country Mortgage (Tina and Heidi) if you are looking to finance the purchase of your home.
