Took a Beginning Kpop Dance Class. Vivian was so amazing!! She taught the choreo Like Jennie at a good pace that I was able to follow, even though I'm a beginner. She always checked in to make sure our questions were answered and was very encouraging. We were able to learn the entire choreography and drill it from start to finish a couple times, which helped reinforce the moves. Clean facility and ample parking. Highly recommend!! read more

I attended three classes at this studio while visiting San Jose. I booked through ClassPass. I've always loved to dance but it had been a long time since I took any dancing classes. I took Beginner Broadway Jazz, a group singing class and a Beginner Cabaret class. All of the teachers were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I was welcomed near the front door at each visit. I did not always keep up with the choreography but had so much fun trying to! It's a very busy studio so when you enter through the front door rather will likely be another class going on. If you're considering taking a dance class, I'm convinced this is the best place to do it in San Jose! I can't want to come back and take more classes. read more

I've gone to Ariel Dance Productions for a number of months now, and I've performed at their Dancing in the Museum show in June of 2023. I've had an extremely positive experience with this studio, and I am grateful to be a part of its community for the following reasons: 1. This studio teaches a large variety of dance styles, from jazz, ballet, kpop, hip hop, lyrical, singing, etc.. I was looking to try out different styles of dance, so I was so happy to find this studio. I got the unlimited classes package as well, and I went to so, so many classes! It was great exposure. 2. Class sizes are small, so they become quite personalized for the students. Often, there are less than 10 people per class. So if you are looking for more attentive, direct teaching, you can get that attention just by going to the normal classes. 3. There is a strong sense of community at Ariel. Within weeks, I knew many other students, the staff, and of course, the teachers, all on a first name basis. I've been to larger dance studios, and it is very easy to get lost in the crowd and feel invisible (to go to classes for months, and not know anyone's names). At Ariel, this is not the case, because dancing at Ariel is more like joining a community than just going to classes. 4.This studio gives the same welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds: including ages (I've seen students from 8 years old to 80), genders (male, female, non-binary, etc.), skill levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), and intentions! What I mean is that whether you someone serious about becoming an expert dancer, or someone casually taking classes, or someone who's never taken a class before, this studio and its people will warmly welcome you. Quick story: I remember I tried an intermediate lyrical dance class here once (with french-sounding spinning/jumping dance moves with names I can't remember or pronounce), and I was clearly out of my element. I was immediately paired with a very strong dancer who worked at the studio (I think his name was Charles? or Charlie. He was very nice guy.), and he patiently walked me through the dance, even while the rest of the class continued. No one gets left behind in this studio! 5. The true highlight of this studio is the owner, Oanh. She is extremely humble, invested in this studio and its students, and passionate about sharing her love of dance to the community. In May, I hurt my foot and couldn't dance for over 2 weeks. Without a second thought, Oanh gave me another two weeks of tuition free. Also, I didn't come to Ariel for a little while, but when I came back, Oanh immediately recognized me! It made me feel good to be recognized in this community. 6. Oanh and this studio puts on large in-house shows (I performed in front of ~100 people once! Weeks after joining Ariel. It was an unforgettable experience.), and they also partner with events around the SF Bay Area for students to perform. The experience of performing at this studio's shows and in front of real audiences is unmatched! So at Ariel, you are free to just take classes, but you can also take it to the next level by committing to performing in their shows. 7. The studio space is well kept, clean, and high quality. Compared to other dance studios in the SF Bay Area, it is smaller, but the level of investment made in the facility is high. Particularly, the floors in both rooms (this studio has two rooms) are made specifically for reducing the impact on dancer's feet/knees, which are very expensive to install and maintain. Oanh makes these high quality, expensive investments into this studio so that her students will have the best possible experience with its classes. 8. Finally, this studio is what immediately comes to my mind when I imagine a charming small business in my neighborhood. The staff at Ariel Dance Productions throw all their heart and effort into their work here, and you see directly who your tuition is helping and where your money is being invested. This studio has been around for decades (my older sister actually performed here back in 2013? at the same show I did this year in June 2023), and they've become somewhat of a pillar in the local dance community. So even disregarding the fantastic experience you would get here, it feels good to support a small businesses in the area with passionate owners. Overall, I highly recommend attending this studio. I came to Ariel a couple years ago with no dance experience. Since then, I have improved a ton and enjoy every moment I'm there. The instructors are always so kind and encouraging and meet us where we are at. I recommend taking classes here if you are an adult and thinking about trying something new. I also recommend this studio for adults who used to dance and want to get back into it. I've met some amazing dancers who had to take a hiatus for careers or family and are getting back into it now. read more

I found Ariel Studios exactly one year ago and I am so grateful I did. My goal was just to go back to dancing and get out of the house. But I found so much more - amazing dance and singing classes, many opportunities to perform, a warm and welcoming community, and also a great class for my toddler! For adults - I am taking Broadway Jazz and singing classes. But I also tried other classes such as Heels, Hip Hop, etc. All the teachers are great - they are fun, rigorous and push us to become the best dancer, while also being kind and supportive. For toddlers and kids - If you are looking for a class for your kid, Ariel is the best! We looked at other classes in the area and most teachers were so strict they took all the fun out of dance for the little ones. At Ariel, miss Journey manages to teach the fundamentals of dance while making kids play! My son loves it and is looking forward to it every week. I rarely add reviews online. I joined this studio almost a year ago and my experience has been very very satisfying. The owner of the studio, Oanh Tretter is a beautiful dancer herself and an amazing person. I have joined various other studios in the past but haven't sticked to them more than a month or two. Here, I started with femme hip hop with Saori but now I am trying out other classes too like K pop(Saori), adult heels(Kim), singing(Simon) etc. The culture is very motivating and inviting. Everybody is very professional but at the same time, there is a feeling of community. No matter what level of dancer you are, you are valued and given opportunities to not just learn but explore and perform various dance forms on various occasions. I am very grateful to Oanh because she has also given me a lot of opportunities to perform the Indian classical dance form even though it is not taught in Ariel. I get a very satisfying feeling as a dancer to be in an environment like this that allows me to challenge and discover myself. I have made some really good friends here as well. I am taking Andrea's Tap level 1 class right now. Andrea is an exceptional teacher who infuses her lessons with fun and creativity, making each class a joyous and memorable occasion. One of the highlights of the course is the upcoming recital in June. Andrea has curated a selection of songs that I enjoy so much. The choice of songs, including Hozier's "Work Song", the classics "9 to 5", and the contemporary hits "Work from Home", one particular arrangement that stands out is the "Schuyler Sisters" from the renowned musical Hamilton. The incorporation of such a powerful and energetic piece adds an extra layer of excitement and keeps us motivated to push our boundaries. It's an absolute thrill to tap into these iconic tunes, and Andrea's choreography perfectly complements the music. Beyond her creativity, Andrea possesses a genuine passion for teaching. Her patience and dedication allow students to feel confident in their abilities. Her teaching style promotes teamwork and emphasizes the importance of supporting one another, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere. I had such a great time at the beginners salsa class! Actually, I found out about the class through yelp and I'm glad I did. I have always wanted to learn, so I finally took the step to get started. When you get to the studio, you walk right into the dancing room/onto the dance floor. The instructors were extremely patient, encouraging, and friendly. They always gauged the crowd and adjusted song/teaching speed accordingly. We began with solo work/basic steps and ended with partner work. By the end of the class, I felt much more confident with my salsa skills (although I'm still a novice). At the end of class, I learned that their salsa classes are usually the 3rd Saturday of each month. However, there will be no more salsa for the rest of the year since they will be preparing for their holiday shows. I'll be back in January! read more

It is so much fun she always makes sure that we understand the steps and doesn't move forward unless we are ready to! My favorite is when all dance together in the end with dim lighting like we are putting on a show! As the world was starting to open up again, I decided to join this class. After being stuck inside for so long, I look forward to the community that awaits me at the dance studio each week! I first tried Ariel after a friend of mine recommended the Groupon deal. I've been taking classes here for two years now, and love it! They offer a huge variety of classes, including my favorite, lyrical jazz/ballet. The rates are very affordable; I usually pay monthly or per class. It's very flexible for a busy professional like me. Classes are offered in the evenings, so those of us with full-time jobs can still participate. What I love most about Ariel is the low-pressure, passion-driven environment. You're given plenty of opportunities to grow and show your skills (4 shows per year, all optional), but you don't feel pressure to compete or compare yourself to other dancers. I've felt that pressure at other studios, but don't at Ariel. I love that I can be myself -- and I love that the Ariel community (a strong and loving one!) has welcomed me in. read more

Ariel Dance has been wonderful! I began taking classes in 2019 before the Covid Pandemic, and thankfully the dedicated instructors kept things going for students via Zoom and hybrid in person/zoom classes through the shut down year. I'm so thankful this studio kept going and is now open again for in person classes. Currently in May 2021, we dance using proper social distancing with masks on to keep compliant with state and county regulations. I was a dancer in my youth and teens, but didn't have the courage or time to attempt to return to dance for 30 years. I am so thankful I found a studio that welcomes all ages and levels. The beginning/intermediate jazz and tap classes really do adjust to teach the true beginners, while offering a level up option to challenge those of us who have danced in the past but are not quite solid intermediate dancers. When I quit dance 15+ years ago, I had only experienced what I now realize were toxic environments at the 2 studios I grew up dancing with (fat-shaming, favoritism, etc) - but there's NONE of that at Ariel. I feel like Ariel prioritizes instilling joy for dance and giving room for students to do what we're comfortable with. Since starting here less than 2 months ago as an adult student, Ariel has become like a second home to me. Oanh, the studio owner, was so welcoming from the start and brings a lot of energy, support and education during and outside of class. The first time I took Lyrical with Danny, I was reminded of why I love dancing in the first place and that fed my soul. Ballet with Samantha got me to love ballet for the first time because we're encouraged to enjoy ourselves instead of obsessing over perfection. I have sooo much fun in Hip Hop Heels with Kim; her choreography really vibes with my style - also heels are optional. For all these classes, we work on one choreographed routine to perform soon. Besides dance classes here, I also cross train for regular fitness elsewhere, but the one fitness/technique-oriented class I look forward to the most is Sandra's Dance Fundamentals hour for beginners on Saturday mornings at Ariel. For me, it's like an empowering technique/conditioning with light pilates combo class tailored for dancers - something I had been looking for. Her form corrections for me are always personalized, encouraging and so helpful. On a completely separate note, I've lost 8 lbs in 6 weeks without dieting since starting at Ariel - not that this has been anyone's goal for me. Let me preface by saying I am definitely not a dancer by nature. I play soccer. I have foot/eye coordination, not arm/leg coordination. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try some belly dancing because I thought it looked cool and I like the music. I had a Groupon and I went to 8 classes of beginning belly dance. First of all, I don't think a drop-in dance class is a good idea, especially for people like me who need repetition and gradual building on skills to really get something down. Since there are different levels of beginners in the class, you can't really build on previous classes because some people may be first-timers. The technique here is just to follow what the teacher is doing and that doesn't do it for me. I did learn something, but not as much as I had hoped. That said, I'm glad there is a place for adult beginner dancers to make fools of themselves. The teaching technique is just not for me. read more

Ariel Dance studio offers many dance classes taught by many different instructors. This was my experience with one class taught by one instructor. On Saturday, i was at Ariel Dance Studios and asked if Monday's Beginner's Jazz class would be appropriate for a total newbie like me, or if I should try another class. The two nice ladies assured me Beginners Jazz would be perfect. Fast forward to Monday and I call in to verify class was still on & to warn them that I was a newbie. Again, I was assured that the class was small & lots of personal attention & instruction would be given. During class, we spent the first 30 minutes doing light stretching and light core work. (All very boring.) We then did 30 minutes of random acrobatic type activities (handstands, tuck-sit, l-sit, and so on). I kept eyeing the clock, wondering when the Jazz instruction would start, or if I was even in the right class. :( At this point, I was feeling annoyed as this was not what I came to do. Of course, I was one of four students and the others seemed to enjoy NOT doing Jazz. :/ After an hour of class, we start putting the equipment way. Thinking class was over, I start prepping to leave, feeling disappointed that we did nothing Jazz related. (Not even play Jazz music in the background.) This was when the instructor started playing jazz music. Apparently class was 1hr 15min long. With 15 minutes left, the 3 students and 1 instructor started free style dancing and then co-creating a routine. This was obviously NOT a beginner's class. All I could do was stand there, watch, twiddle my thumb, and feel like a total outsider. I tried to dance their routine, but the music was too fast & I had NO training. 3 minutes before class ended, I had had enough and bolted for the door. There was no instructions. This class was not geared towards beginners. No one cares if the new kid gets left behind as they want to Jam at there level. In all fairness, the instructor tried to get me to stay....but with 3 minutes left of class, what could I really learn? The class I signed up for was "Beginners Jazz." The class I attended was "Jazz-related Jam for experienced Dancers." If I had paid for this class, I would ask for my money back. read more

Last year, I decided to search for a dance studio to enroll in because I have always wanted to try dance. I observed and dropped in on a few dance studios/classes in the area, but I did not find anything I enjoyed enough to want to commit to. Many of the dance studios I found seemed to cater mostly to children and adolescents, or had limited class choices and performance opportunities for adults, especially adults who are beginning dancers. And as an adult who has never had any formal dance training, I felt a little nervous, intimidated, and frustrated. And as an adult who works full-time, it was difficult to find a dance studio that offered classes that fit my schedule. However, last September, I found Ariel, and I have had so much fun since. I love how Ariel offers many classes throughout the week at different times and in different styles, including classes I was not able to find anywhere else (e.g., show choir, musical theatre, Bollywood, etc). I love how Ariel's instructors accommodate individual students' levels and needs. I love how Ariel provides many opportunities throughout the year to perform on a live stage, where I get to show my friends and family what I enjoy doing, and gained confidence. I love how Ariel has a very welcoming environment, and how Ariel's director, instructors, staff, and students have always been so friendly, non-discriminating, and encouraging. Oanh (the director) is so warm and responsive, and her studio really reflects her love for dance, creativity, and community. Hello, I have tried out several studios, and Ariel is certainly one of my favorites. Everyone is so friendly, but they also take their dancing seriously. A lot of ppl even have kids and still dance here all the time (That'll be me someday!) Plus, It is not competitive at all, and you can pick from SO many amazing classes. I can never decide which ones to take because there are TONS I like them ALL! There is a big Performance 2X year about, so you will have the chance to shine on stage if you desire. :) Plus, unlike other dance studios/teams, you get a chance to wear very cute costumes, but you don't have to spend a ton of money on them (I maybe spent about $30, all-in, per costume.) Yes, the last show in March was super engaging, I made so many friends, and my dancing really improved. I loved everything about it! Kristy's Monday class is super fun, the Tuesday and Thursday evening classes are great as well (7:45 and 9:00) I took Oanh's Jazz and Contemporary and I loved them both. Jenny is a master and brilliant at her craft (such talent is so unfair!) and I can't wait to take one of her classes when my schedule frees up. Coming from latin dance ( I'm still doing salsa with Couture Dance Alliance -which is also very good!)...contemporary is a challenge, but I've always wanted to try it. Seriously, I'm so glad that I did. Likewise, taking classes here gives you a great workout, and we regularly do ab. work and stretch. Take classes here instead of wasting money at the gym! Try it! I have been dancing with Ariel on and off for over 5 years now, and this place has been nothing but welcoming and wonderful! The teachers are fun and kick back, and don't have a pretentious attitude. An EXCELLENT place for a total beginner, and challenging enough for the intermediate/advanced dancer. They will totally modify across the floor moves for you and your level, and help you learn technique in a fun way. The people that go there are fantastic as well! I have definitely been in dance studios where I feel like I am being compared to everyone else, or secretly being scoffed at, a general pretentious vibe. That is SO not the case here. People are warm, friendly, and rather hysterical actually. It's good to come to Ariel with an open mind for learning and a sense of humor for joking around with your classmates. Before you know it, you'll be learning so much about dance, getting fit, making friends, and practically living at Ariel, and that's totally cool. All the classes are wonderful, all the instructors have unique and different styles and different things to teach you. Brandie and Kento are fantastic for hip-hop, Brandie very fun, sassy, and funky, sorta Pussycat Dolls. Kento also sassy and funky, and will use a lot of hard hitting moves and isolations. BOTH break down moves and choreography very well to make sure your on the same page. Rory as well! Oanh is the awesome director of Ariel, and she teaches as well, usually Jazz, Contemporary and Afro and Funk jazz styles. Jenny is the tap teacher and so upbeat and positive, you'll learn with constructive criticism, and have a blast while doing so. Kristy also does jazz, and will challenge you to get out of your comfort zone, and to practice techniques in across the floor and choreography. I could talk about all the teachers all day, but I suggest finding a class you are interested in, or check out the schedule and taking a drop in some time. They also often do free workshops available to the public, so totally bring your friends and family to those events, too! Honestly I started taking classes with my gf for moral support. It was supposed to be a one month thing for me but I got hooked. Everything is a great experience: from the studio, to the teachers to the students. you feel a sense of family over there. take classes with Jenny for Jazz. She teaches beginner and intermediate. I've danced on and off throughout my life - depending on time, finances, and health. I danced at a local studio for about three years. Let's call it Trailer Trash Studio ("TTS"), because that's what it was. It was awful. No mirrors. No barre. Cash-under-the-table tuition. Hideous. No wonder I never got better! And there was no YELP to tell me that there was another, better, cooler choice... ARIEL DANCE PRODUCTIONS! A friend from "TTS" referred me to ADP a few years later. I perused the website and was surprised to see so many evening classes. The studio really caters to the working - or otherwise preoccupied - adult! (But kids, from toddlers to teens, have a variety of classes from which to choose as well!) So I called and spoke to Oanh (the director) and she took me on just eight weeks before the annual show! I performed in two numbers and had a great time. I've continued taking many classes there and my technique is improving dramatically. There is also a wonderful breadth of classes, from hiphop to jazz (many varieties!) to afro to tap.... and so on. There's really something for everyone. And any level of dancer is welcome... and you WILL be welcomed, because Oanh makes it a policy that everyone introduce themselves to new class members, and make them feel at home and part of the team. The school really emphasizes performance; there are several opportunities to perform each season, from ADP concerts to community events to musicals to revues. Each member's special skills might be called on for any given production. If you aren't into performing, however, don't worry - you might get some friendly ribbing, but you will never be forced to perform, nor will you feel excluded during class whatsoever. It all started in 2010... I'd just moved to the bay area and I wanted to start taking dance classes. Most studios I found catered only to young children or experienced adults. Since I was in my late 20s having only taken a couple of college classes, I did not fit either of those categories. Then I found Ariel. I attended one of their "$5 All you can dance days" and was hooked! This is the perfect place for someone like me who loves dancing, but isn't at a professional level. The instructors are very supportive and do a great job of coming up with fun routines. This studio mostly offers weeknight and evening classes which is great for working professionals. The owner, Oanh, is super nice and easy to talk to and the prices are very reasonable. I look forward to all 3 of my weekly classes here (hip hop with Brandy, Tap and Jazz with Jenny) !! I also really enjoy performing at Hoover theater twice a year, it's a blast!! Note: You don't have to have tap shoes to try the tap class! Ariel is an amazing dance studio. IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. I visit a number of web sites very frequently and have been always relying on on-line reviews when deciding on new products as well as choosing books, clothing, restaurants, and pretty much everything, but I'd never ever written a review myself before. Today, I did, however, get a strong urge to write one, and here I am telling you about my experience at Ariel Dance Productions. Last summer, I was searching for dance studios for adults on Yelp. I wasn't successful until I found Ariel. I noticed multiple reviewers saying everybody at the studio are very friendly and supportive, and some of them consider it to be their second family. These messages were strong enough to make me decide to try some classes at Ariel. I had absolutely no dance experience before, so at first, I felt like I was the biggest loser in the whole world. I seriously thought I had no talent whatsoever for dancing. I have been always extremely stubborn all my life, however, so I did not give up. I could hardly follow all the moves the instructor would teach us and struggled in every class, but at the same time, I was having the greatest time. I felt amazingly happy just to be at the studio with so many wonderful dancers who kept on inspiring me and encouraging me. I had not felt that way for a long long time. I realized that I finally found a place where I could be myself, where I could be respected, acknowledged, and appreciated as a person, and where I could share happiness, joy, excitement, tears and all kinds of emotion and experiences with people who had the same passion. Finding Ariel was one of the best things that ever happened in my entire life. The owner of the studio, Oanh, is such a caring and loving person that she treats us like her real family. I even think I came to California all the way from Japan to meet her and her Ariel Dance Family. By the way, I performed at Ariel's dance concert about two weeks ago. It was the very first time ever for me to dance on the real stage, and I truly loved the experience with all my heart. Of course, I made multiple mistakes, but it didn't matter so much. They welcomed and included me as a member of the team to work toward the same goal, and that alone was enough and priceless. When I first visited Ariel last fall, I never thought I could ever perform at a show like that. I felt like I would simply be too foolish to even dream about being on the stage some day. Boom! Kah! Ba boom boom Kah! Yeah, I have no coordination skills whatsoever, but Ariel Dance made my first dance class lots of fun. Dropped in on a Beginning Hip Hop class taught by Rory. The class was so small that it was like a private lesson. It was fabulous. Rory was super mellow and low-key. It was not stressful at all. Sure, I looked like an idiot, but at least I had lots of encouragement! Plus I did work up a sweat. Oanh (another choreographer at the studio) was super nice and patient while she explained how to sign up for classes and what the policies were. I would definitely come back for more classes. One of the greatest things about Ariel, is that the different classes each offer something unique. I've taken from a number of the teachers, and can't wait to try my hand in some of the other classes. The performances, while super-fun to be in, are also AMAZING to watch! Adult dance recital doesn't always inspire the best mental picture, but I was truly entertained and had a great night when I saw Ariel's show in early April. The dancers and teachers inspire me, and everyone is open and welcoming. If you come to Ariel, you will be asked to try new things...but no one cares if you can't get the hang of it right away! Ariel is one of a kind! It's a fun and friendly place to dance, meet nice people, and have fun. The studio director Oanh is warm and friendly, and lots of fun to learn from. She has built a welcoming & supportive atmosphere at Ariel, which can sometimes be hard to find in dance studios. I've taken jazz & hip-hop classes from Kim, Kento, Jenny, Rory, and Joie, and I like all of them. I like Kim's and Kento's creative dance style. Jenny and Joie have wonderful personalities and create really fun choreographies. And Jenny's professionalism and bubbly energy are a pleasure! Jenny is also very good at making personal connections with students (she makes a genuine effort to learn & remember every student's name - something many teachers don't do!), and has excellent communication skills.
