After reviewing a number of places offering dance lessons, we decided to go with Studio M for one reason: Giovanni!! Before we booked, we had a free consultation with him and he made sure to ask all the right questions to get a good feel of what we wanted to do for our wedding dance: what kind of music we liked, what our experience is, what kind of dress I was wearing, etc. He even offered to remix some songs together if we didn't have a single song in mind. He wanted to make sure that we were comfortable with whatever dance happened. He's also Italian and we're having our wedding in Italy, so it felt like fate to meet him! We ended up booking 10 lessons with Giovanni. After we decided on a song, within the first lesson, we already had a good 30 seconds choreographed. He was patient with us both, as neither of us had dance experience, and he really listened to us on what we were comfortable doing. He also shortened our song choice so that our first dance was within a reasonable timeframe. Within 4 lessons, our entire dance was choreographed! We spent the rest of the lessons perfecting, tweaking, and refining every possible moment! It really put us at ease for when we finally hit the dance floor. Another really awesome thing about Giovanni is that since he does a lot of weddings, he is always thinking about a number of things to make sure that the dance is beautiful, but also that the photos captured are perfect! He took a lot of videos for us so we can watch and practice at home. He also made sure to tell us when we'd have good "photo moments" where we should perfect our poses for the quick moment our photographer will have to snap a pic. And he even recommended sending a video to our photographer with recommendations on photo moments, so the photographer can get familiar with the dance ahead of time. In general, Giovanni is so kind, patient, and incredibly fun to be around and we cannot recommend him enough as a wedding dance instructor!! read more

There is a wide array of dance teachers for group classes and private lessons. There's an option for practice floor fees and a membership for those who want to use the studio a lot. The studio itself is beautifully done with a large dance floor, smaller dance floor, and a dance floor on the second floor. There is parking in the front side and back of the building. Absolutely one of the best studios in the bay area. They have a good blend of dance styles, ballroom, socials, and my personal favorites: salsa, sensual bachata, and zouk. The studio is also super nice, renovated, and has plenty of special events and guest DJs. I come here 2-3x per week and take classes with Ngoc from Knockout Dance Company, and John and Liz from Salsamania, both are world renowned! Ngoc does super sensual, leads and follows, and has an uncanny ability to improv and pours her heart every time; truly amazing to watch her dance bachata and focus so much on styling and musicality. Studio M has been my home studio since 2023. I was only 3 months into learning bachata & was recommended by a friend to give this studio a try. When I went by myself for their Monday night social, I was so nervous! Jenny was very kind & welcoming when I arrived to sign in. Some of my favorite memories that night were not only the dances, but how much fun I had with everyone I danced with. Despite me telling them I'm only a few months in. My nervousness slowly dissipated & I just knew I wanted to come back here again. I was left feeling so happy & I adore the space being at an actualy dance studio with plenty of space to move & not at a bar (don't get me wrong, I still attend them for social dancing). I just really love not only how spacious the studio is, but they also offer a water station to refill your bottle along with clean restrooms. I joined their Ignite 3 monthly membership program in September & have found myself growing so much in this artform. Many wonderful bachata events happen within this studio. Bachata Heat (every 2nd & 4th Friday) Baychata Sensual workshops & concerts Bachata Antidote (every 3rd Friday) They offer a variety of classes from beginner to advance level in various artforms. Some teachers constantly ask students to go for Pro/Am ballroom competitions to an unreasonable degree. 'G' outright stated (after registering me for one of the most difficult comps with no routines in place or even asking which dances to enter into) that the expectation is 5 comps a year, each costing $3k+ just for the comp without providing any consideration for goals, comp readiness, motivations for improving as a dancer, or the fundamentals of this dancesport. His only consideration is how much $$$$ you are willing to spend. He was extremely rude and disrespectful when I said there was no way I'm going for any comp without knowing routines or any of the dances. His behavior was completely unprofessional. This experience nearly made me stop going for any lessons or trusting any instructor but thankfully I've found far more talented teachers at other studios that are fantastic. read more

I love the Studio, especially for the bachata classes taught by Ngoc. She is an amazing instructor. I dance on her Student performance team and have taken her classes. She has classes for all levels so you never feel like you've hit a limit. You do advanced classes, performance team, and competition. I love her teaching style. I love the way she teaches from both a lead and follow perspective. It allows me to understand the technique from both angles. She also gives individual feedback (depending on the class) to really help you understand where you can improve. When I moved up to the area, I was looking for a place to learn some new dance styles and find other ways to be active. I was recommended Studio M and I absolutely LOVE this studio. I go to Studio M with Ngoc for bachata, and she's truly incredible instructor. I mostly attend her Ignite classes on Mondays, where she puts extra focus on technique for bachata social dancing. I've already been able to see growth in my skill level in just a couple months of training with her. She's also super welcoming to all new faces because more than anything she just wants to see the dance scene continue to grow, and for her students to continue to improve as dancers. Since joining Knockout, I've made some amazing friendships and truly feel like part of a community.
